Mrs. Nachos's Picture
Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. Thomas Age and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & Hairstylist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio Producer Engagement Date: May 22, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. Thomas About Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
About Mrs. Nachos

With this being my second marriage, I wasn’t sure if I would, or even should have a shower, but everyone tells me that it will happen whether I like it or not. And I like it! And who am I to say no to a party? My friend Sharon started throwing around ideas for a shower for me, and she’s keeping me in the dark about the little details, so I’ll share with you all what I know so far. Sharon was faced with a few obstacles…

The first question was where to have it. I know she threw around the idea of having it in a party room in a restaurant, and she looked at Jimmy’s Charhouse as a possibility. However, I am a big fan of showers thrown in the comfy confines of someone’s home, so she then talked to my mom about possibly having it at my parents’. Good plan, if it wasn’t for my new little brother Charlie…

That little furry sweet pea is about 4 months older, 50 pounds heavier and is one excited puppy that could end up opening presents before I have a chance to! The next thought was to have it at my place. Why not? Everyone on the guest list knows where I live, and I can make myself scarce if she needs to set up without me there. Plus, Mr. N will be there to help her with anything.

Location, check!

The next issue was funding this little shindig. Since we don’t have a bridal party, she didn’t really have anyone to talk to about splitting the cost with. I told her she didn’t need to spend money on decorations, as they usually just get thrown away anyway. And I suggested doing a potluck – having everyone bring a dish so there will be plenty of food, and it won’t cost her a penny. I’m not sure what she decided in the end, but I will find out the day of, I guess! :)

Food and funding: I’m not sure, so I’ll just say check!

Lastly was picking a date. We both broke out our calendars and compared notes. April was pretty much out for me because I wanted at least one full weekend devoted to nothing but making sure all wedding things had been taken care of. Throw Easter into the mix, and there’s not a whole lot of the month left. So we looked at March. We knew the bachelorette party would be going on one weekend, and Sharon’s husband’s birthday is another weekend, so we finally chose the one that worked best. From there, we had to pick an actual day of the week. I think most, if not all of the showers I’ve been to have either been on a Saturday or Sunday, usually around brunch time. We had other plans. My mom’s work schedule has her up in the weeeeeeee hours of the morning Saturdays and Sundays, and I need her at my shower, it wouldn’t be the same without her. So my friends, we are having my shower on a Sunday evening at my place.

Date, check!

So far, that’s about all I know. Sharon’s a sneaky little one and I’m sure I won’t get much more out of her before the shower, but I trust her and love her and know whatever she pulls together will be fabulous. I’ve also caught Mr. N giggling at texts on his phone a few times and when I look over at him, he just points to it and says, “oh that Sharon, she’s funny”, so I know they’re in cahoots. I can’t wait to post pictures of the festivities for you all!

Are you/were you involved in the planning of your shower or were you kept in the dark? And after doing so much wedding planning, is it just me or does it feel weird to have someone planning something for you now?

I had my shower at my house, too! I had to hide out in the den while my friend decorated the living room, haha.

I’m uninvolved. I made a request for recipe cards, but that was it. I really like having someone else take care of this :)

This has nothing to do with your shower…but that puppy is freakin’ adorable! I have one too (also in the few months older, 50 pounds heavier state) and can understand your concern with trying to open presents! Christmas was a disaster for us this year….

I refuse to be kept in the dark because I am not good with surprises like this. A suprise present sure, a surprise whole day that I need to be tip top ready for to spend with ample amounts of women, not so much. So I know the date and probable location, thats all.

I know when and where it’s happening but other than that, nothing about it! I kinda like it :) Although having only ever been to one shower, I have no idea what to expect!

I’m glad you wrote this post today because we have the same wedding date and I’ve been being told lately that it is too early to plan the showers. I like you think Easter weekend is out and then bam it is wedding time. So thanks for re-assuring me that it is time to start thinking about this stuff.

And yes, it is strange to be left out of the loop. I’ve been a BM 10 times so I’m the one use to doing all the planning.

I’m trying very hard to remain in the dark, but it’s strange for me and for my friends since I’ve always been the one to organize major social events. I have a hard time relinquishing control and learning to trust, and they have a hard time taking the reins.

That’s perfect! I love a good potluck. But like you, I have very little knowledge of my shower. I know it’s at the end of Feb and in Dallas, that’s it. :)

Cutest dog ever!! (Well, except for my Cockers of course!) My friend had her baby shower at her own house. It’s SUCH a good idea-you have all of the gifts there, & you don’t have to schlep! Getting people out of your own house is a whole other thing altogether, but hopefully you’ll be having so much fun, you won’t want people to leave. My BFF’s ma threw us a couples coctail party shower which was super swank and awesome, & my sisters threw us a girly shower in my older sister’s backyard. I didn’t know too many details for either (other than what I just said-I live for surprises). I just submitted guest lists & showed up!

@farmersdaughter: My parents had to buy a little Christmas tree and put it on a bookshelf cause they were afraid of what Charlie would do to it! So cute and so hyper!
@vintage2010: It’s definitely not too early, only a few months left! And I, too have been a bridesmaid a bunch of times, and I totally agree.
@tea: I’m little but mighty!
@Miss Pug: You’d have to fight my parents for him, I don’t think they’d let him go easily!
@eileen marie: I seriously didn’t even think about the fact that we won’t have to worry about hauling all the presents anywhere afterwards. Bonus!

Sounds like it will be a fun party! And that puppy is SO adorable, if I went to a party at your parent’s I would be too busy playing with him to shower you with gifts, haha!

Puppy!!! So freaking cute. I’m in the dark about my shower from here on out, and it DOES feel super-weird to have people planning things for me!

I’m having a hard time letting someone else do the planning. I have been so detail oriented and crazy about the wedding plans, that it really feels weird to let someone else plan part of it. Even so… I am SOO grateful that I don’t have to plan the shower!! It is very nice that it is being planned for me. I don’t think I can handle anymore right now. And that is a very cute puppy!!!
