About Mrs. Pencils

Pearlicious!

February 3rd, 2010 @ 10:55 am by Mrs. Pencils

Now that you have seen my lacy dress, it’s time to unveil the jewelry that shall adorn my body in May! Mr. Pencils has bought me quite a few pieces of pearl jewelry from his adventures in China, where the pearl market allows for quality pearls at lower prices. I had always planned on wearing one of these necklaces for our wedding… until my sweetheart-strapless-necklined dress proved underwhelming with the single strand of pearls. (I am trying so hard to avoid the term “pearl necklace” in this post as it makes me giggle every.single.time. Yes, I’m twelve.)

I still wanted to don pearls on my wedding day so I began the search for the perfect pearl adornments. Of course, I envisioned a glorious hair flower (which has a fancy name like fascinator that I can’t really pull off saying) with pearl accents, like these from some awesome Etsy sellers:

Then I decided to wear my hair half up instead of in a side bun, and the hair flower didn’t seem as practical. I flipped my lid when I found these from Etsy seller Belles and Crystals:

These Swarovski ivory pearl flowers with champagne crystals will work perfectly with my curly/soft/half up hair do I’m envisioning. I received six of them and they contrast well against my brown hair. I was struggling with how to incorporate this look into my other jewelry until I found THIS!

A gorgeous Swarovski pearl and crystal bracelet, custom made to my wrist’s measurements from Etsy artist JurgitaHandmade! Mr. Pencils decided to get me this for Christmas, as well as my necklace and earrings so that he would still be the one who gave me my wedding jewelry. In return, I bought him a sweet new diver’s watch to wear on our wedding day, too! The bracelet arrived in this gorgeous packaging:

Finding a necklace and earrings proved to be the most difficult. After searching Etsy and Macy’s with no luck, we decided to simply search around malls and jewelry stores until we found something. We were looking for a longer necklace, so that I could double it if I wanted, or a multi-strand necklace that wasn’t overwhelming. Needless to say, it was hard to find these things for a reasonable price.

Not one week later we were in North Carolina for Thanksgiving and we found a little boutique with the perfect pearls! It is longer, around 24 inches, with varying sizes of pearls and its clasp is actually ivory ribbon—perfect for the ivory ribbon in my dress! With some matching simple pearl earrings, it was complete!

I think these simple studs will work best with my hair being down, as I think longer earrings will get lost in my hair. I have two sets of earring holes, so I’m thinking of wearing these green posts to go with my green flip flops and bouquet:

Are you wearing pearls? Have you found any unique pearl jewelry on the internet?

LOL I can’t bring myself to wear a pearl necklace for the same reason you can’t say it =) I got one that has crystals with just a few pearls, but yours is beautiful!

omg I love francesca’s collection. They have that store here in MN in woodbury and it is the cutest. It is rather pricey though, but I still love shopping there.

So lovely! I might wear a bracelet and necklace set of pink pearls that sort of match my shoes. And they can be my something old. Hmm, you’ve got the wheels turning Pencils!

Lovely! I am wearing pearls too - a pair of vintage-looking pearl and diamond earrings and a vintage pearl brooch that I found on Etsy.

I’m wearing pearls too - a gift from the FI for Christmas. I had told him that I wasn’t planning to wear pearls because they were “too stuffy” after he had already bought a necklace and some gorgeous diamond and pearl drop earrings. How could I say no? So I bought the first set of flowers you posted (VirginiaGeigerJewels) and I got them last week. They are gorgeous!!

I lost the back to my pear earring the other day :( It didn’t fall out, thank goodness, but I need to get those clip on backs for real now.
