Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!

Do you struggle with deciding when to splurge and when not to?

I do! I’m the type of person who walks through a store and doesn’t buy a thing because I think I can make everything.

So what is this all about, you ask? It’s about our wedding website. I pride myself on being pretty computer savvy. So I put together a pretty intense wedding website using Blogger, which is free. We paid $9.99 for our web domain, and that’s it.

What’s the problem then?

Aw yes. It took months to figure this out, but there’s no easy way to password protect the site! At first I thought it would be great to index the page and make it easy for our guests to find it. Uh… yeah… wrong again! I’m on the job market now and people are Googling the Hot Wings left and right. What do they find? yup… personal information about my wedding plans. No likey. So now I need to find another option.

Problem 2: I don’t want just any ol’ free site. I want the same intense awesome site that I had spent so many hours on. What is a lady to do? I’m really leaning toward WeddingWindow, but it costs $80 for 15 months (that’s after putting in a promo code). That’s a lot! Do I do it? Or do we go for the free site  we can easily use from MyWedding, which is pretty nice but not at all as customizable as we want.

We just didn’t put our last names on our website, since we gave the URL out with our save-the-dates. No one needs to Google us and find our wedding!

There’s no way to make the site private through the company you bought the domain name from? It seems like such a shame to waste all that hard work!

I used Wedding Window because I AM NOT COMPUTER SAVVY! AT ALL! I wanted something easy to use and personally, that 80 bucks was WELL worth it!

I used Wedding Announcer…it only has a certain number of templates, but was pretty user friendly and it’s FREE! http://weddingannouncer.com/

We used Wedding Wire & it worked out great. It’s free & they offer SO many add on options! (online rsvp, music requests, etc.) Their templates aren’t that spectular, but it got the job done.

Huge fan of Wedding Window! We used the other tools that came along with the account, e.g., guest list mgr tool, collecting addresses, etc.. not sure if MyWedding does that, too? Anyhoo, I agree with Mousey, what a waste of all your hard work! Hopefully, a lot of it can be migrated over somehow!

I used brides.com and their site iS AWESOME!!!! It’s totally free too. And has RSVP online functions AND a way to put people on tables of any type/size (rounds/rectangular). Their “looks” are limited, but I found one I liked and then built everything there. I’m SOO glad I did.

I absolutely love ProjectWedding’s website template! I am oldskool when it comes to web design so I knew how to do it on Notebook or when you were able to convert pages in html automatically through your web browser. I’ve messed with a bunch of free blogging sites and I swear it’s not as instantly pretty as Project Wedding’s editing protocol.

Just the picture pages makes life so much easier - you can upload your pictures directly and there’s an instant picture viewer if you want it to scroll. There’s a wedding map that automatically links to google maps with the same motif you have on the side. All the pictures automatically have borders for uniformity!

It’s so easy to edit. I <3 it!

I really enjoyed working with WeddingWindow. It is very user friendly, and the most customizable of the websites out there, based on my search.

we are using free the google space with a “wedding site” template provided, and bought a domain from godaddy.com to link to the google site. total cost… $10.87 for a year.

We are using nearlyweds.com and love it. You can set it to hide from google if you’d like or make it password protected. I liked their designs and functionality best.

i thought blogger had an option to make the blog unsearchable by google? maybe it doesn’t work when you have your own domain i guess. we just used mywedding.com since we are cheap (and lazy). :)

i used my mobile me account from apple and my fiance bought a domain name and somehow hooked it up so that we could have it just redirect from that domain to my mobile me pages. it cost him $10 for the domain and my dad bought a family pack of the mobile me, so that was free for us. i love that it can be password protected, because that was totally my biggest worry too!

We’re using mywedding.com. It’s not as customizable as I’d like, but it gets the job done and it’s free.

Google. It’s free, you don’t have to know HTML, and very customizable. I am no tech-wiz, but I’ve really been able to sink my teeth into our google wedding site!
