We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
About Mrs. Pudding

Beating a Dead Horse

February 4th, 2010 @ 3:19 pm by Mrs. Pudding

Alternate title: I Think that My Bridesmaids Hate Me

Last time we talked about bridesmaid dresses, we were (mostly) in agreement that this little B2 number was the way to go:

Beating a Dead Horse : wedding bridesmaid dress Bmdres BM+Dres

You commented that the dress was flattering and photographed well, and my two beautiful bridesmaids agreed that the dress was their favorite.

Armed with all of this positive reinforcement, what did I do? Well, I just couldn’t pull the trigger and forced BM/FSIL to go shopping with me just one more time. :P

Having exhausted most bridal boutique options in the state of Vermont (oh, how I miss the shopping selection of the Toronto area), we had only one stop to make: David’s Bridal.

To preface, there are no David’s Bridal stores in Canada, so the only knowledge that I had of this chain was gathered from the internet. I hate to say it, but the impression that I had was mostly negative. It’s weird, but the internet has the power to spread negative reviews much faster than positive ones!

I have to say that David’s was a pretty pleasant surprise for me! We went in on a weekday morning, so we had the place to ourselves. The selection of dresses was pretty large, and I loved how they had each dress in different colours and sizes! One of the biggest annoyances in the BM shopping experience has been the fact that non of the sample dresses came even close to fitting my girls. It’s really difficult to see how a dress would fit when it’s not even close to their sizes!

We did find some possibilities at David’s. They really had some great and very affordable dresses! Here are a few we considered:

Beating a Dead Horse : wedding bridesmaid dress Db DB

I really liked this one, and FSIL loved practicing holding a bouquet

Beating a Dead Horse : wedding bridesmaid dress Db2 DB2

I was worried about the material gathering on the hips on this one, but it looked beautiful on my skinny mini bridesmaid!

Beating a Dead Horse : wedding bridesmaid dress Db3 DB3

We didn’t love this one, but the colour could have something to do with that.

Beating a Dead Horse : wedding bridesmaid dress Db4 DB4

We tried this one on just to see how the navy colour would look on a person, since it looked a little bland on the hanger. It was a cute short dress, but we’re going long, baby!

Upon returning home and looking through the pictures, I still think that the B2 dress is the way to go. I have yet to pull the trigger, though. I think that the reason that I am struggling with this decision is because I’m not sure if any of the dresses are special enough to be worth the price tag, you know? Unfortunately, I have exhausted all of my shopping options in Vermont, and most boutiques have warned me that I need to order a dress by the end of February at the latest. A decision will have to be made soon, and I’m scared to make it.

Sigh. Was it this hard for you to decide on a BM dress? Are you sick and tired of me rambling about it yet?

How much is the B2 dress? It looks like a pretty simple design? What about commissioning it out to a seamstress? Or what about searching Nordstrom.com for a similar style. I really like the B2…that would definitely be my pick!

I actually really like the yellow! But that might also have something to do with the color ;)

Trust me - make the decision and dont look back. You wont regret it once its done. I had a hard time too, finally I said “you guys pick your favorite” and they all picked the same one. And then I didnt think about it any more. I do think the B2 is the best of them - its gorgeous.

I had the hardest time deciding on a BM dress. I just made up my mind today, after dragging my sister to at least 5 different storres and trying on countless dresses. I didn’t even try on that many when I was looking for my wedding dress. She was a trooper though. I love B2 dresses. Ipicked out 3 of them for my wedding. I say go with the B2, it is gorgeous.

that B2 one is so gorgeous! It’s making me almost want to put all 11 girls in the same dress lol, but I can’t go back on what I told them

Mine was pretty easy. I was a little unsure of David’s Bridal myself, but it turned out great! One of my BMs couldn’t spend a lot on her dress, so we went with a David’s Bridal option and it looks awesome. I like the B2 dresses on your girls.

My crazy bridesmaids picked out the first dress they tried on at Nordstrom’s. :P I basically left it up to them with a choice of two colors and to get whatever they wanted to buy. Now I was the one to suggest Nordstrom’s which they both thought was odd, but they have so many party dresses and we were going cocktail to tea length so it worked out great. :)

Oh Lord, I made my girls try on at least 10 different dresses before I made up my mind. And I NEVER would have thought we’d pick the one we did. But it’s fabulous and I’m pumped for them to flank me in it in just under 8 months!

I split up the agony - took one BM to help me narrow it down. Then the other two helped me finalize it (but they had to make 2 trips on 2 different weekends). My #1 pick wasn’t available to try in in WI, so we went with a close #2 because I wasn’t comfortable with only one BM being able to try the dress on.

Pull the trigger! The B2 looks good on them - is pretty classy and classic and is rewearable! Go for it!

I love the first dress - it is so elegant and flattering. It would work in just about any color.

I say go with your initial instinct. =)

The B2 is by far the prettiest and I am sure you could get that in any color you wanted.. The style is just really nice on both of them….

I love the B2 dress, and I definitely know how you feel about choices. I actually gave my BM tons of choices to make them feel more comfortable and they told me to choose and I ended up picking the first DB dress in your post.

It was a long, hard decision for me, too. I really love the B2 dress–it looks beautiful on both of them.

I’m totally biased, since I’m making my girls get the B2 one, but it’s definitely my favorite! All 5 of my bridesmaids love it and it looks amazing on them all. Plus, the fabric is soooo nice.

I think B2 is the way to go. They both look gorgeous. This was not a hard decision for me because I passed it off to each of my bridesmaids. They all picked their own dress.
