Vintage-y Vases

February 4th, 2010 @ 4:57 pm by Mrs. Buttons

So, if you recall, I somewhat recently decided to make a switcheroo in regards to our reception flowers. Bye bye hydrangeas, hello baby’s breath!

Next up on the to-do list was to figure out what to display the beautiful poufs of baby’s breath in!

Mommy Buttons and I began by scouring Jo-Ann Fabrics, Michaels, and the like. We saw a lot of the same thing; clear glass vases in different shapes/heights. It could work, but I wasn’t in love.

Then, we decided to try our luck elsewhere by visiting our all-time favorite stores; TJ Maxx and Marshall’s. My mom mentioned that she had seen some pretty vintage-looking vases there previously. We walked down the aisles in anticipation…

And… boy was I glad we went there! There were shelves filled with vases in various shapes, sizes, and patterns galore! And they were very reasonably priced, ranging from $3.99 for the smaller pieces to $7.99 for the larger ones! We quickly gathered every single vase we could see into the shopping cart… and then proceeded to visit every TJ Maxx and Marshall’s in the Tampa/Clearwater area to clean them out!

Here is our stash…I am just loving them!

I plan to combine at least one taller vase with a shorter one, and add some “extra” items on the table (such as bird figurines, vintage books, tea cups, etc)… I’ll show you some of my first trials shortly! And my favorite aspect of these vases is that we will DEFINITELY reuse them after the wedding! My mom is fond of them, and they match the décor in the house… and I know that I will want to keep a handful for Mr. Buttons and me to decorate our new home! Sure, there will most likely be some leftovers, but I am loving the fact that I don’t have to rent them for $15 a vase (since that is what we were previously quoted by a florist for similar containers… yikes!)!

Are you planning on DIYing your centerpieces? What are you planning to do with the containers after the day is done?

Those are great looking vases! We’re also DIYing our centerpieces…I plan to sell the vases after the wedding!

I wouldn’t set your heart on them too much. At my cousins wedding the guests assumed that the centerpieces could be taken and she was only left with 3 out of like 20.

Those vases are gorgeous, especially with the baby’s breath!

@asunw: Who in the world does this? I can’t imagine jacking centerpieces from a wedding, unless they were told to do so.

OMG…. I absolutely adore your vases! They’re gorgeous. Will guests get to take them home or will you be trying to re-sell them afterwards?

I love those vases! I was planning on giving silver vases to our florist, so I’ll definitely check out those stores.
I was super surprised when people started taking the centerpieces at my bridal shower in New Jersey! I’m from Texas and I’d never seen that before. Maybe it’s a regional thing? I got scared that people would take our rented vases, and decided 10-15 vases was worth buying.

@asunw: Yikes. Well, that is what our DOC is for; she won’t let anyone leave with stuff that isn’t theirs!

@bellenga: Yayy thank you!!

@Miss Hot Wings: I’m going to keep some, my mom will keep some…and then I’ll maybe be able to sell the rest hopefully!

@clarerichardson: Yeah, that’s why I’m going to just make sure that my DOC knows that people aren’t supposed to leave with them…but I’m really not anticipating anyone trying to take them…

@LoriLori: For real, I rarely shop anywhere else!

love those! I’m using silver tea set pieces and serving ware that my aunt has been collecting for the last 20 years for centerpieces. It never even occurred to me that people would take the centerpieces without being told they could! Guess I’ll have to put a guard at the door :)

We used silver tea sets too, like SapphireSun. People wanted to take ours, too. I stopped them. Haha. If I knew them. We had plain glass vases for a quick transfer - they really just wanted the flowers, anyway.

I wanted to sell mine afterwards too but they’re still at my ILs’ house. Anyone want a ton of silver teapots and coffeepots?
