Mrs. Pencils's Picture
Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MD Age and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non Profit Engagement Date: July 26, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Morningside Inn About Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
About Mrs. Pencils

My potential rehearsal dinner outfits!

I didn’t think through my engagement photo outfits very thoroughly (and though I liked the way they turned out, I wish I had worn something more “me”) but you won’t find me doing that for our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner! Considering our laid back vibe for the dinner at a local restaurant that brews its own beer, and the potential for heat/humidity/rain/who even knows what, I want to choose something that will work no matter the weather!

I jumped over to Polyvore and scouted some promising options. I’m considering two different looks. The first is pretty traditional: a cream/white dress with some bright jewelry and shoes. I can always pair one of these with a bright pair of leggings and pashmina to stay warm. Here’s what I found:

What's White and Green and Yellow and Blue Jeans All Over? : wedding dress Bqcdaaa white rehearsal dresses!
L to R: Miss Real dress, ModCloth dress, bandeau dress, Anthropologie necklace, green heart necklace, Jade earrings, ruffle front dress, Calvin Klein dress, dress, green bow shoes, bracelet, Tony Burch flats

Or, I’m considering a less traditional route with some dark jeans and a girly white top, with some sweet shoes. I love the versatility and casual aspect of these options:

What's White and Green and Yellow and Blue Jeans All Over? : wedding dress Bqcdaaa01 rehearsal white shirt 2

L to R: white tank, frilly white top, frilly tank, tie top, flower tank, Hurley Jeans, Nordstrom Jeans, Gap Jeans, John Lewis Jeans, Gap Jeans, bracelet, earrings, necklace, Guess heels, flats

I don’t know about the heels in either case—I’m about three inches shorter than Mr. Pencils, but I don’t think I want to be the same height as he is when we’ll be standing in front of others, speaking and thanking them. I’m thinking the jeans option is much more “me” as this is my favorite ensemble on the weekends.

Are you considering a casual outfit for your rehearsal?

I just ordered an overly dressy pink dress for my rehersal because it was cute and I figured I could be over dressed if I want to. I’ll prob. pair it with a pair of hot pink heels and a cardigan of some sort to make it a bit more casual but it is neither in our wedding colors nor bridal white. Oh and we don’t even have a rehersal dinner planned yet so who knows if it suits the location.

What is everyone else going to be wearing and what location are you going to be in? I think your outfit should go with the overall dress standard of the evening as well as the decor of the location. Both options could be really cute, but it has to “go.”

I’m going to take the chance and dress up! Since I don’t get to dress up often, and FI loves to see me in a dress!

I’m all about the jeans. I’ll be likely wearing jeans with cute dressy flats and a feminine white shirt for our rehearsal. We’re more casual than anything and since our wedding will be quite formal, I want to wear something a little more relaxed for the rehearsal.

I love the Gap jeans on the far right, the piperlime top in the middle, a fun pair of shoes and earrings! I think either way you go you will look great. Just as long as your happy and comfortable with your outfit that’s all that matters! Good luck with your choices!

Cute, cute, cute! I’m trying to convince everyone that having our rehearsal dinner at the putt putt course is the best idea ever. NO ONE is biting.

Both options are cute, but I like the jeans the best! That is what I am going to go with. We are sticking to super relaxed and “us” for our rehersal too!

I think you should wear what feels like you! If that’s jeans, then wear jeans. You’ll look super cute.
I wore a very casual cottony/gauzy dress with vintage cowboy boots and a flannel cover up for the rehearsal dinner.
A couple people commented (before I wore the outfit) that it sounded too casual. But eff them! You should be as casual or as fancy as you want!!

go with what you feel comfortable in that fits the mood you’re trying to create. you’d look smokin’ in any of those.

I’m not someone who dresses up very much, so I went all out for the rehearsal itself, but changed my skirt for jeans for dinner and drinks. If you’re a jeans kinda girl, I say go for it!

OMG Miss Pencils! I started reading your post and thought to myself “ugh, i have no idea or even care to think about what I’ll wear to our RD.” And now, I am totally in love with your girly white top and jeans idea. I want our rehearsal to be a more casual event and that just sounds too perfect! I will spend this snowed-in weekend in the DMV researching now! (eta phi baby too cool too cool)
