The Mini at the End of the Moon

The Mini at the End of the Moon : wedding honeymoon Ace Hot ace-hot

In terms of our budget, we’re reaching the end. My parents are contributing a significant amount (the majority) and are within their own set budget, which is fabulous. But there are things we felt we needed to pay for as a couple and unfortunately, we underestimated a few of them. This leaves our honeymoon in a bit of a limbo.

The first idea was to do an all-inclusive in Mexico.

We really liked the idea of not being responsible for basically anything and just basking in the bliss of being married. After reviewing the options and prices, however, we decided it might be better to hold off on that kind of trip for a year. We don’t have the funds to make it as awesome as we’d like!

So instead, we’re figuring out a minimoon. We’re going to take four or five nights, relax, but not spend nearly as much. One of my favorite contenders was Palm Springs, at the Ace Hotel. It’s not quite the beach, but the desert might just do!

The Ace Hotel is actually a converted Howard Johnson motel, in the desert, with a Boho vibe. Looking pretty swank!

After loads and loads of research though, we opted for something else in Palm Springs.

The Mini at the End of the Moon : wedding honeymoon Viceroy viceroy

(source)

We’ll be spending five nights at the Viceroy Palm Springs. It’s not going to be a two week odyssey in Thailand or something equally exotic, but I’m ecstatic. I adore Hollywood regency and love the idea of spending a few days poolside in such a glamorous/staggeringly hot locale. We’ve already picked out a few spa menu items we want to do and my fiance is fast at work finding savory restaurant spots.

The reason we decided not to go with the Ace Hotel was just a matter of price. The Viceroy was significantly cheaper and seems a bit more luxe, even though I do love me some mid-century modern. It was a tough call, but the siren song of a retro glam hotel with a resort feel was too much.

How did you decide on your honeymoon spot? Was budget a major deciding factor?

I hope I don’t sound rude but I’ve just got to say something….five days is a mini-moon? I had never heard of someone taking two weeks for a honeymoon until I started visiting this site. I also guess I don’t know anyone who has the time to take two weeks off and still have time left for the rest of the year and the holidays. My FI and I will take seven days total, including travel, and that’s it.

The Viceroy is gorgeous — great choice! Your mini moon sounds just right — not too short or too long!

I think that sounds like a fun option! I love the look of the Viceroy! Keep us updated as far as what you guys do while you are there outside of the hotel. That has become a big issue with FI and I because we cannot decide on what to do. And laying around poolside is something I can only do for about 2 days before I am bored.

How hip is that hotel? I love your choice of the Viceroy! It’s very 1950’s hollywood glam. So chic! Glad there’s a spa and I know (have an aunt in CA) that there’s some great dining around Palm Springs. Such a fun alternative!

We’re doing things a bit differently. We’re honeymooning (sorta) for a week before our wedding at our fave resort in Pensacola (the Portofino Island Resort) and may be getting one of the penthouses. (cross fingers)

It’s b/c of a combo of the minister being gone during entire month of july and the kids going back to school in august.

We will however, do our hop on a jet fly to an island getaway a few months after the wedding and have the official honeymoon! Gets to let me play bride a bit longer!!

We wanted somewhere all-inclusive. And after reviewing various caribbean locations, and chatting with our local Sandals rep, we decided on Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica. Basically, we just want to chill out for 5 days, and got a decent price, so we’re happy!
And not leaving until 2 months after the wedding (to avoid the hurricane season).

I think that looks freaking fantastic. Reminds me of a modern version of Gatsby. I’m strange.

We’re staying at my parents’ beach house because it’s free. I look forward to not having a schedule, and being able to sit on my ass without feeling guilty about not taking in all of the sights.

I have no idea where we are going for our honeymoon…that has been left up to the fiance to plan entirely without me. (Pause for gasps) He really enjoys surprising me and planning travel so I figured this was a great opportunity to let him have fun with it.

We still don’t have a honeymoon plan! Eek. We’re thinking it’s going to be the summer post-wedding, b/c we always travel in the winter and wanna wait for the warmth! Palm Springs took a while to grow on me- and now I actually love it! Both the Viceroy and the Ace are awesome AND spa treatments are involved? You guys are gonna have a blast! :)

Miss Ribbons, my fiance and I just stayed at the Ace Hotel in Portland, OR for a friend’s wedding. It was very hipster and cool!

We are going to South Africa and I am so psyched! Our main factor is that my fiance has lived in 6 countries and traveled to over 40 and we want to go somewhere “new” to both of us. Also, we both adore all things African and our favorite romantic movie is Out of Africa.

We are going to do the winelands, Capetown, the beaches and a safari. I am psyched! Luckily Mr. Politico got a nice tax refund to add to our honeymoon fund! Yea!
