Mrs. Sewing, San Mateo, CA/Honolulu, HI Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical Engineer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical Engineer Engagement Date: June 27, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Anela Garden Chapel & Japanese Cultural Center, Honolulu About Me: I'm an easily entertained, compulsive idea-scheming machine who loves good art, good food, and a good engineering challenge. I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!

Table Zombie?

February 7th, 2010 @ 3:40 pm by Mrs. Sewing

Instead of doing something simple and straight-forward, like numbering our reception tables…

… we’re going to use places instead!

What places, you ask?

Oh, distant cities and foreign lands that Mr. Sewing and I have spent many, many days exploring and living in.

I’m talking about MapleStory, of course. It’s an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), that we spent more than a year playing together in college (and still go back to from time to time). As cheesy as it sounds, we have many fond memories from Victoria Island, Orbis and beyond, so it’s fitting we incorporate it into our increasingly geek-infused wedding.

Here’s a mock-up (ignore the jpeg artifacts, please!):

Table Zombie? : wedding decor Amoria1

I created the image using BannedStory, which is a avatar simulator commonly used for making forum signatures and such. Each table will represent a different town within the game. The picture above is Amoria, which is the “love” town that you can get married in. Sadly, Mr. Sew and I never got “married” in-game, since it cost about $30! That’s just silly for a game. So we’ll just do that IRL (in real life!), for much, much more money.

We’ll have to double the image for the front and back of the table number stand… or maybe use two different images from each town. One can be “sweet & cute” and the other can be “ridiculous”, like us fighting slimes or lupins or zombies!

What are you using for table identification?

Okay this is sooo adorable! I am undecided if we will have table numbers or assigned seating here because it’s very unsusual to have that type of thing.

I think that that’s so cute but I suggest putting in out in ABC order so that guests don’t have to scramble around reading each table sign to find their table.

I love this idea lol ! I love how you infuse so much personality into everything you’re planning. Bravo for you ! :)

We’ll be naming the tables instead of numbering them (it’s traditional to do that here in France) and using photographs of street names we’ve lived on. We’ve moved around A LOT and we have many more street names than the number of tables we’ll have (probably 12 or 13 tables). The hard part is getting photographs of all the street signs, since some are in the US and we’re living in France now lol !

We might also use the opportunity to thank all the people who have helped us move, sublet their appartments, stored furniture for us, etc.. ! :)

That is cute and personal. We’re going the boring route and using numbers. I wanted to do photographs with countries we’ve visited but I don’t think I’ll have the time to organize that.

Cute idea! We’re doing something similar, but with numbers…. each table will be numbered with a number that is significant to us. For example:
7 - number of years we have been together
12 - age we were when we met
2100 - miles we moved to go to grad school
108 - our first apartment number
724 - the area code we moved to

You get the idea… I smile every time I think of someone saying at the wedding ‘we’re at table 2100…’ hehe!!

That is too funny, and super-creative! For those of us who’ve never actually heard of the game….this could be re-created in another, similar way. For example, my sweetie and I have travelled to a few real-life places such as San Francisco, Seattle, Omaha Zoo, etc. etc.

Thanks for the idea!

so geeky and cute! :) I’ve never heard of Maple Story before but I will certainly check it out. We are using the names of the villages in Guam as our table “numbers” if we end up doing a seating arrangement.
