Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!

Entourage Size – A Wedding Party Dilemma : wedding relationships 119 1

source

Having a wedding party is a time honored tradition that we Hot Wings did not want to leave out. So, deciding whether or not to have one wasn’t even a question. Since our wedding surrounded the idea of bringing family and friends together, we knew that it was important to have a wedding party. So, the next question would naturally be: how many people should we include?

Mr. Hot Wings is 31 and has been in many weddings. He is a wonderful and kind man. So, it’s no surprise he has friends he would like to have stand up with him.

I have friends and family that I want to include, but not nearly as many “must haves” as Mr. Hot Wings does.

So, what’s a gal to do?

Our Besties were obvious. For him, his twin brother. For me, my BFF. Then, it was important for us to include our other siblings. That’s 1 little brother and an older half brother for me, and another sister for him. Are you keeping count?

That’s 3 men, 2 women. With only full siblings, we could have a wedding party of 4 (2 guys, 2 gals).

What happens when you start including others, you ask?

It blows up! Out of control, up!

Groomsmen: 3 high school buddies, 2 college buddies, 1 grad school buddy

Brideswomen: 2 cousins, 1 high school buddy, 1 college buddy, 2 grad school buddies

That’s a total of 8 brideswoman (aka bridesmaids) and 8 groomsmen.

At the end of the day, we decided on going full out. That’s right… 16 in our wedding party. Oh right, did I mention the ring bearer and flower girl yet? Of course not… that would add 2 more. So, that’s 18 people, plus a bride and groom.

Yes hive… us + entourage = 20! Yup, it’s a lot of ladies and gents.

oh wow! Mr P tried to convince me that the perfect number was 3 on each side. :-) I’ve got 6 he has 4 (plus 2 ushers- so kinda 6 too) he lost on the great number debate.

I think that will be a lot of fun! And actually, it will be proportional to your guest list, so it will look fine!

That’s quite a lot, but there is nothing wrong with that! We have 8 total (4 on each side). I think as long as you are making a decision you are happy with, that is all that matters! It’s great that you’re including everyone!

I know what you mean, Hot Wings!!! I’m having 6 girls on my side, but Mr. FF is 35 and has been in a *TON* of weddings and has a lot of close friends. So, 9 on his side it is. Plus 2 flower girls. 1 ring bearer. And a partridge in a pear tree.

We have 8 on each side too! We couldn’t leave anyone out & we’re really excited to have all of our favorite people standing up with us on our wedding day!

That’s huge. Mine was smaller - only 6 total. I just don’t have that close of friends. I only asked people I really cared about.

Haha, I love that other people are in the same boat as me. My Fiance is 32 and an only child with tons of friends. He has 10 groomsmen and I ended up with 5 bridesmaids (each girl gets a guy on each arm). Plus we’re having 2 jr bridesmaids/flower girls and then including us, we’re at 19 people! We’re having the hardest time finding a space for our rehersal dinner - now with the wedding party, their dates and our familes, we’re at about 75 people.

Hey, i think at the end of the day you should include the people you want regardless of size. That could mean 1 or it could mean 8. :)

@Miss Hamster: so true. so true.

@thefuturemrsjewell: @MissMay: @Miss French Fries: I’m so glad I’m not alone :)
@Miss Frozen Yogurt: absolutely! I think you’re totally right. At the end of it all, you have to be comfortable with your decision whether it be small or large!

There are 17 people in our bridal party, and it’s going to be a blast. I’m 27 and he’s 33, so through the years, he has formed many more close relationships and stood up in a ton of weddings. We started out with an even 5 bridesmaids and 5 groomsmen (plus 2 junior bridesmaids and 5 ushers). However, my fiance felt terrible about calling his other 5 best friends “ushers,” so now we have 10 groomsmen! It may look lopsided at the altar, but in the end, who cares? We rented a 22-passenger Hummer to drive us all from point A to point B, and that alone is going to be one heck of a party!

My wedding party is about the same size - the fiance has 7 while I have eight (one of my girls is playing the harp while we all walk in). I love big wedding parties - you’ll have a ball!

I definitely could have gone way way way higher but we wanted to keep it small for sanity’s sake, so we have 4 each…8 each is a lot but it sounds like it will be fun!
