Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

Getting Hot for the Wedding

February 8th, 2010 @ 2:21 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

So this past weekend I went to Dallas for a hair and makeup trial. From the very beginning I knew that it was important for me was to find someone that could come to us on the day of the wedding. I know that I will be stressed out and the thought of running from hair to makeup and timing everything appropriately for my 6 bridesmaids and me was making my head spin. If I was stressing about this with more than 2 months to go, I knew that on the day of the wedding I would be in high panic mode and that makes me break out in hives—not a good look for the wedding day.

I hopped on the Google machine and found a few promising ladies and gents that just might fit the bill. I ended up contacting Erin because she had the best prices and best reviews, so it was an easy pick. Erin came over to my sister’s house at 9 AM on Saturday and we got to work. We looked at some inspiration photos to give her an idea about what I wanted and then we started with the makeup.

I am not a girl that wears lots of makeup, though the eyelash extensions may have fooled you. I typically throw on some mascara, bronzer and Chapstick and I’m out the door. My makeup regimen takes 10 minutes tops and that’s when I actually put on eyeshadow; my normal routine is about 5 minutes. So, a makeup trial, although fun, can also be a little scary for me.

When I first looked in the mirror after she was done it was way too much makeup for my taste (I don’t have a picture of this, sorry!). There was a lot of eyeliner, foundation and shimmer. But, I was honest and told her that it was way too much for me. I felt like I was going to hit up a club, not walk down the aisle. Thankfully Erin really listened and began taking off some of the makeup. The next time I looked in the mirror I was much happier. I still thought the foundation was a little heavy and the eyes a little too shimmery, but I understand that for pictures, heavier foundation is a good thing. And I know you’re screaming at me to just show the damn picture, so here I go:

Getting Hot for the Wedding : wedding makeup trial 21 2

The plan for the wedding is less shimmer on the eyes and a little less foundation because I just can’t do it, even if it’s best for pictures.

I also wore this around all day (though not the veil) to see how it would look after a few hours. Thankfully it held up pretty well, though the lipstick didn’t. That was off in about 20 minutes, but I’m bad with lipstick. I forget I’m wearing it. Oops. Here I am several hours later:

Up next, we’ll chat about my hair. What do you think about the makeup?

I really like the foundation and blush, but I would re-think the eyeshadow a bit. I think that the shadow nearest your brows is too white in color. With your skin tone, you should go for something a bit more gold and less white. It will look less stark that way, especially if you plan on doing black eyeliner.

Good call on less eye shimmer. It looks great, but toning it down just a little is going to make a huge difference in awesomeness ;).

I do like the foundation too. I agree that eyes are a tad too shimmery (for my tastes at least)! The pic from a few hours later looks great though!

With your coloring, have you thought about trying more warm tones in your eyeshadow? You have gorgeous eyes and lips and it seems like going more with pinks, browns and golds in your eyes make make the makeup look more subtle and still bring out your eyes.

@MissChirpie: I agree on the gold tones- Miss Fro Yo has a warm complexion and the white is too cool.

Fro You you look beautiful!

@rachel_leigh: yes, I definitely thought it was too white, I think she was trying to coordinate with my wedding colors (one of which is grey), but I definitely agree that warmer is better.
@Miss Pretzel: Thanks! And yep, I need some more gold, less white.

I agree about the foundation being too much. I also think it’s a tad bit too orange for you.

I agree with the foundation being a little too heavy and also about it being too orange. Of course you want it to stay but the last thing you want is a clear border between where the make up starts and ends.

Loving those eyelashes :) Good call on the shimmer, just a tad softer. The makeup held up so well later in the day and with the veil on that looked beautiful! What kind of makeup did she use?

i don’t know anything about makeup, but i just think you look reeeeaallll puuuurrddyyyy…yay for makeup trials! i think it was a good call for you to speak up and stick with what you’re most comfortable with. there’s only so far we can go to look good in photos–you have to feel like yourself, too!

try long lasting lipstick. i have the loreal infallible and i really like it. it truly doesn’t come off until i use makeup remover. i’ve had it stay on til the next morning! it can take a few wears to get used to though.
