Ring a Ding (Pud)Ding

February 8th, 2010 @ 10:20 am by Mrs. Pudding

Remember my beautiful engagement ring? Mr. Pudding worked so hard on getting me just the right bling, and he definitely succeeded. It’s the perfect mixture of my need for glamour (lots of diamonds, please!) and Mr. Pudding’s need for practicality (bezel setting, so it doesn’t snag). Need a reminder? Here it is:

When I showed you my ring for the first time, many of you wondered what my wedding band would look like. The ring has a unique shape (which I love), and it does present a bit of a conundrum. Initially, I was planning on getting something like this:

When Mr. Pudding saw this band for the first time, he instantly fell in love with it. He said that he liked that the two rings spooned, just like we do (we’re big time snugglers)*. Even though that totally melted my heart, I started thinking that maybe the one band was just not enough bling for me. The band on my engagement ring is quite thin, and so is this band. So I started thinking that perhaps I could get two bands - one for each side of my ring.

We looked into having these rings custom made, and even though it is totally doable, the price tag is substantial. Mr. Pudding has said that if I want two bands, he would get them for me. He argues that I will wear these rings forever, and I should have something that I love. I feel guilty though, since one band is already quite pricey. I started to lean towards getting just one band now, and having Mr. P buy me a second one for an anniversary in the future.

Lately though, I’ve been drawn to right hand fashion rings. They seem to be much cheaper than their “wedding band” labeled counterparts, and they provide a lot of bling for your buck. I’ve been thinking about sporting one of these beauties on my ring finger, and switching my engagement ring to my right hand. As Mrs. Avocado explained, in Poland people wear their wedding rings on their right hands, so this seems like a suitable solution.

I think that any of these would do nicely in the place of a traditional wedding ring:

Do you have an odd shaped ring? Did you get a custom band to match your e-ring, or did you opt for a separate band?

***Despite his love for snuggling with me, Mr. Pudding is nothing but the manliest of men. :P

My e-ring is a tad oddly shaped and we’re going to custom make a ring that fits against it.

I have a verragio ring, and it was a little difficult to find a band that would fit snuggly against it, without covering up the bling on the setting itself. We went with a plain band though, and decided the bigger stones in it were way prettier than the tiny stones on the verragio (and only one was covered anyhow!). I, too, like the look of double bands, but we were told that you get the second band on your 5th wedding anniversary- so we just went for the single band for now.

haha love the *note* on the bottom! Girl, I love the look of two bands with the e-ring but as for your other options, the first would look awesome as a wedding band

I wear my wedding band on my right hand. Yes, I get a lot of strange faces when I tell people in North America, but it’s not that uncommon in the wider world. My reasoning is that I wanted to use particular diamonds (from my Grandmother), and I thought it was too “blingy” with my e-ring. Plus, I love my e-ring on its own. And what girl doesn’t like to have meaningful bling on both hands!

Mine too. My fiancé had it custom made so now we have to have the band custom made as well. It’s actually at the jeweler right now - exciting!

Personally, I’m loving options one and two. They have a glamorous look and will really go well with your e-ring…not to mention, rings on both ring fingers? Amen.

I am going both routes. I’m with you on on the *Bling* factor. So I asked for an accompanying band, but also for a “right-hand” ring style band. I told Mr KL that I wanted the less expensive band to wear instead of the pricey e-ring set when I’m doing things that are messy, or at the pool. Because I still want something that says, “I’m Married” but i don’t feel bad if it falls in the lake or gets dirty! After all, I am buying him two rings, a yellow gold and a white gold one!

I’m in the same position. I’ve actually cosidered wearing my wedding band on my right hand and my e-ring on my left just because my fingers are different sizes. I don’t want to wear a ring up on prongs like my e-ring for my right hand since I’m right handed and I would be afraid I would snag the ring or bang it around even more.

Have you considered wearing your wedding band still on your left hand but only when you aren’t wearing your e-ring? Like when you are cooking, gardening, or anything else that’s a little much for an e-ring?

I like the look of two bands if you can swing it. If not, like others have mentioned…. who wouldn’t want meaningful bling on both hands? :) :)

We opted to do the two unique shaped bands, one for each side of my halo setting. Mr. FF figured the same thing that Mr. Pudding did — I’m going to be wearing these forever, so I should wear something I love! I can see your conundrum, though — they were pricey. I think a right hand ring would be awesome!

You’re ring looks like mine! It isn’t exactly the same but it is really similar. I wear my eng ring and my wedding band on different hands. I wanted to be able to jest wear my wedding band when I travel so I couldn’t get one that fit snuggly.

I would love to have 2 matching bands for mine, but my wedding band was my grandma’s and I’ve been told it’s very unique with rose cut diamonds and the setting itself, so I know if we had anything custom made, it wouldn’t look identical. Maybe we can try for the 5 year anniversary though. Jewelers these days can do just about anything!

Wow, those right-hand style rings are blingy indeed! I like the idea of having bling on both hands, but it’s not really my style so I’ll probably get something custom to fit against my e-ring but simple platinum will probably do it for me.

I love that idea! I would probably be doing that if I didn’t already have a right hand ring!

Ooh, I have a similar bezel setting. Only mine isn’t rounded, it’s more square. I’m getting a traditional wedding band and will either wear it with my e-ring or swap my e-ring to my right hand. Haven’t decided yet! Love your options though.
