Brideswomen: Asking VIPs to Stand

February 9th, 2010 @ 11:20 am by Mrs. Hot Wings

After figuring out the size of the wedding party, we had to formally do the inviting. For Mr. Hot Wings, that meant emails and phone calls. Could it be that simple for me? Of course not! After all, I am obsessed with wedding blogs and have projects in mind from Miss Buttons, Mrs Bluebell, Mrs Bear Cub, Miss Cola, Mrs Hydrangea, and Mrs Kitten to name a few. Now, mine are certainly not on the level of these other bees’, but I felt compelled to do something personal for each of my BMs, nevertheless.

Hot Wings Woman of Honor got lunch with the Hot Wings, along with a book on how to be a bridesmaid. Hee hee… just in case she didn’t know. Don’t kill me, I forgot the name of the book already.

My grad school friends got asked in person over dinner one night.

All others received a handmade card. You see, I had to make it more personal because I couldn’t ask them in person. These ladies spanned the country from California, to Colorado, to New York.

They were all a little different, and all materials from my craft stash. And, they were really easy to make.

I basically took some leftover blank cards I had laying around, some ribbon, sticky scrapbooking letters, and scrapbooking flowers. A little playing around with the placement and double stick tape, and I had myself a card. I was never convinced that the colors really matched, but that was beside the point. I felt like it looked personal and handmade… and that was my point exactly. So, out they went. And all ladies said yes!

How did you ask your bridespeople to be in your wedding?

All of my bridesmaids are far-flung so I kindof did what you did … I made personalized cards, each with a picture of me and that girlfriend on the front. They loved them!

@Miss Sewing: You’re good. That is embossing. I had just gotten an embosser heat gun so I had to use it for something. :)

I only have one, my sister. I was going to ask her in person, but then she jumped me via google talk with a “I have to ask, who are your bridesmaids?” Heh. If I had more than one, I would have loved to make cards for everybody!

Those cards are super cute! I will only have 3 bridesmaids so I sent them all bouquets in the mail with a card saying “will you carry these down the aisle for me”. They all said yes!!!
