Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
About Mrs. Cola

I’m seriously dreading all the upcoming envelope licking that will be facing me soon, in preparation of sending out our invitations!

For our Save The Dates, we tried a glue stick for sealing our envelopes, but it only worked so-so, not perfect. We had to hold the flap down, rubbing it for a minute or two to get it to really stick—the glue sticks just took too long to dry. And I know they make little sponge tipped bottles that you can fill with water to use for sealing envelopes, but with thin paper for our envelope liners, I’m afraid it will just make everything too wet, and ruin the liners. So I’ve resigned myself to having to tongue-lick all our invitations envelopes.

But when reading my Hungry Girl e-mail tips today, I saw a genius invention! Mmmvelopes, which are bacon flavored envelopes! Seriously, how cool would that be to lick 85 bacony envelopes, instead of 85 gross sour gluey ones? Get your bacon fix, without the calories, and be productive with wedding projects at the same time!

If only they came in purple (or any solid color!), instead of this bacon print:

If Only These Came in Purple, Instead of Bacon! :  wedding stationery Mmmvelo  {Source}

While for now these only come in the above design, I could totally get behind some pretty versions! I’m a little tempted to order some, just out of morbid curiosity to see what they really taste like (and do they smell like bacon too? I don’t think that would be as cool as just the taste…). They’re only $6.99 for a pack of 25, and while you’re at it, you can order some Bacon Lip Balm and Bacon Popcorn from the same website.

If this were a *real* product (and by real, I mean, something that could actually be used for wedding stationery, without the bacon design on it), would you consider trying it? And who is with me in hating the taste of licking envelopes?

haha! that’s hilarious. If it really tastes like bacon I’d probably just eat the whole envelope! I use a damp q-tip to seal mine, since I hate the taste too and that one myth about the bug eggs in the glue hatching on your tongue gives me the heebies.

I HATE licking envelopes. I won’t do it. Get a very small sponge, get it wet, wring it out really well, and just run that baby over the sticky part of the envelope instead. It works just as well as licking it, but you don’t have to taste it. Also, they do sell envelopes now that are like stickers. You just peel the backing off and stick! So easy and not icky tasting.

Mmm bacon :) . I didn’t even think about the licking envelopes part! I’ll task FI with that…he said he wants to help with the invitations but since his handwriting is messy he can’t…now I have something for him to do!

I am so sick of the hipster obsession with bacon, I just don’t get it.

But I do like the idea of an envelope that tastes like something other than glue. Using wetter sponges never worked for me, I always ended up ruining the envelope. X(

Use a damp cloth! Just say no to licking. Those bacon envelopes are pretty funny.

I had a similar problem recently. My envelopes were too thin and delicate to handle water from one of those sponge tipped dealios. I ended up using a damp cosmetic sponge and it worked beautifully. I kept a small bowl of water nearby and would dip it in, squeeze the water out and it’d be good for 2-3 envelopes. :) Just a thought for something to try! Anything is better than licking envelopes!!

Haha I would try it. Why don’t you just use a damp sponge to seal the flaps? That worked well for our Xmas cards. Don’t be like George’s fiance on Seinfeld! No envelope licking related casualties!

I have a problem.

I actually like licking envelopes! Not hundreds, understand. But one here or there… they taste good to me, for some reason.

I’m sick, I know.

Ha, this post reminds me of George’s fiance on Seinfeld. (Not wishing anyone glue poison!)

I wish I had people to mail things to that would appreciate bacon envelopes! I don’t think my doctor or landlord would notice it.

The envelopes we have at work taste awful, but our postage machine seals them for us, and you can adjust for the thickness of the envelope so fat ones can go through, too. I wonder if the post office could seal them for you?

Haha, that is so funny! They should really come in all different flavors…chocolate, vanilla, pizza…

Wow. A future business venture, perhaps? ‘Lick’-a-ble wedding envelopes!
In the meantime, my office uses something called dab-n-seal. it works very well on regular envelopes - though we haven’t mailed out invitations yet.

OH GOD! I just almost spat out my diet coke.

(How appropriate for reading a Cola post, too!!!)

But thank you lady, for making me giggle. :)

instead of the damp sponge doohickey, i’ve always just used a paint brush or old makeup brush dipped in a little water.

@Mrs. Mouse: Oh gosh, I hope so. That would be nasty if there were real bacon particles floating around in there.

i get behind all the bees who recommended the damp sponge method. it really works! just make sure to ring it out well and ta da! works like magic without the icky glue taste on your tongue. i used to do this for sealing up invoices to be mailed to customers at a job I had in high school ….

I would try one of these. Or find a nice sticker to seal them with. On our STD’s we used a label with our return address to seal them.

PS… don’t forget the bacon flavoured mayonaise…
