About Mrs. Ribbons

Sashay, Shante

February 9th, 2010 @ 12:11 pm by Mrs. Ribbons

Sorry, this isn’t a post about drag queens. I’m such a tease. We must instead talk about sashes, particularly the one I will wear!

Sashay, Shante : wedding wedding dress Ribbons ribbons

Let’s just ignore the messy bedroom for a moment and focus on the dress. This was my first inclination for the sash: a black grosgrain ribbon. Simple, understated, and not too formal for a garden ceremony. I’m insistent on black because I think it classes up what would otherwise be a blush and bashful wedding.

So I was content with the black grosgrain… until the internet exposed me to something far more brilliant!

Ignoring the crisscross action at the top, how fantastic is that tulle/organza sash? I was obsessed and yet conflicted. First of all, when I saw my dress at the store, they showed it to me with a grosgrain and then a velvet sash. Would I be ruining the aesthetics of my dress by cherry picking her accessories? Is the second sash too modern?

I have three yards of organza sitting at my mom’s house, waiting to be sewn into a sash. Where are your loyalties: the grosgrain or the organza? I’m curious!

My struggle with the second sash is that when I see a picture I see, “Sash!” and not the beautiful model/bride. Granted, that may be due to the size of the sash and due to the fact that the designer and the photographer wanted the emphasis to be on the sash.

I love the organza - it’s airy and fun! The grosgrain could come across as a little stark against your dress.

Ummm….I know this is going to be no help at all — but I love both. I’m considering a sash (and also considered black!) so, I’m partial. I love the contrast of the grosgrain, but I also love that the organza is light and airy, like the bottom of your dress. I know…no help.

Actually, I think the organza is more floaty and romantic–not too modern–and it goes with the dress more. But if you want something that’s going to CONTRAST with the dress, maybe stick with the grosgrain. I like both options.

I love both lol.. I’m no help at all either. i like the pretty princessness of the first sash and the couture aspects of the second… either choice would be the right one honestly…

Girl, you’re all about making a statement. I say organza.

First, I looove your dress. I think as long as you have the organza you should make a sash and try it out. The ribbon looks really great, but I suspect the added volume you get with the organza will either look amazing or awful. Then you’ll know!

I love the second - but maybe have the bow be a little smaller.

I prefer grosgrain. The color is bolder/darker. Looks amzing against the dress.

if it were me I’d probably put the grosgrain on top of the organza because they both look good. hehe :P

I truly love both, and if you’re leaning for the organza one, I say go for it. The only thing about the second one that I would change is the ends-they looks so straight and flat!
