The Only Wedding Book Worth Buying

February 9th, 2010 @ 11:50 am by Mrs. Scissors

I hate to break it to you, but…

The Only Wedding Book Worth Buying : wedding resources Useless useless

There is one, however, that isn’t quite so worthless. In fact, it’s not worthless at all. If I were to recommend ONE wedding planning guide, resource, what-have-you, I would tell you to buy this one:

The Only Wedding Book Worth Buying : wedding resources 1img 08 1IMG_08

The Only Wedding Book Worth Buying : wedding resources Untitle01 Untitle01

I didn’t buy this book initially because it didn’t look too exciting—it wasn’t hot pink, it didn’t look very fun, I thought it had a fairly cheesy title, and I just judged it by its cover. After buying about every other book on the planet, including every terrible one offered by The Knot, I decided it was time to look at some reviews. This book consistently was reviewed as being the very best. I put aside my book-judging and went out and bought it.

The Only Wedding Book Worth Buying : wedding resources 1img 0801 1IMG_0801

Let me tell you––it is the ONLY wedding book that I’ve used fairly religiously, and it’s the most comprehensive one I’ve found. Not only is it packed with answers to pretty much any question you might have regarding weddings, it also is fairly style-and-level-of-conservativeness-neutral. There is information and etiquette for different levels of strictness. You don’t have to barf because of a cheesy photo of a bride holding your least favorite flowers. You can get your information without having to wade through pages of crap.

Another thing I like about this book is the layout. I tend to glaze over at pages of solid text. Every page of this book has diagrams, examples, little blurb-boxes without stupid questions, tables—you name it. It quells the ADHD monster inside of me, holds my attention, and, well, I pretty much love this sucker.

So yes, if you’re in need of a great wedding book and one whose advice I’d trust implicitly, go buy this book. It is $13.57 on Amazon. Win.

Look forward to next time, where I’ll let you in on which book launched 1,000 panic attacks.

Any other lovers of this book out there? Who else has had problems finding a wedding book that was worth four hoots?

Huh, this actually looks useful, unlike EVERY SINGLE OTHER BOOK I BOUGHT. Too late now, though :)

Ugh. The wedding planning book which my mom graciously gave me has a MILLION pictures of 1992 brides with basketweave wedding cakes and cascade bouquets. This book looks lovely! Even though I have pretty much everything planned, I still kinda really want to get it.

That looks pretty fab. I plan events for work so I had a lot of stuff down already, but I have to say that I found Real Simple Weddings to be uber helpful!

I did go through lots of FAIL wedding books. But this one I do really love. Why I bought the DIY Bride, I’ll never know…I should have stopped after this one. It’s so incredibly well written.

My sister got this book for me before I was engaged (she knows I tend to be a bit eager-ha) I can say 100% I LOVE this book. I call it my bible through these last few months. It discusses EVERYTHING! Love love love it!

I have this book. I have other books. You are 100% right. This book is better than all of the other ones combined.

This is why I intially checked a bunch out from the library! I’m at the point now where I don’t think I need anymore books, but this does look like a good one.

You are totally right. My future MIL bought me this book, and it is the only one that gets it right.

There are diagrams, checklists, charts, pictures, explanations, etc., that are much more useful than any other book I’ve seen.

looks a lot better than some of the other books I’ve seen! I checked out a bunch of different planning books from the library, but I have to admit that google is my only tried-and-true wedding planner :P

@Miss Spaniel: Why do they all suck so hard?!
@daniellemybelle: Ahahahahahaha. I can totally picture that book in my head.
@LambsEars: It’s just a beast as far as information goes! :)
@Miss Pug: It was about time. I bought 5 books before this one. Oy!
@Miss Britt: It’s a disease, this wedding book buying.
@courkiadams22: It has shown me stuff that I never even would have thought about!
@missjyc: Probably because this one is so awesome. :)
@Miss French Fries: Yes ma’am!
@SanDiegoAli: I should have done that, dangit. I’m terrified of libraries though, for some reason.

I absolutely agree. This is the only book that I have consistently gone back to when I have questions. It’s a gem.

That’s a great book!

There were a couple other books that had useful tips in regards to budget — “Bridal Bargains” and “The Bride’s Survival Guide: 150 Mistakes You Should Avoid for the Perfect Wedding” by Sharon Naylor. They were very no-nonsense in terms of their tips, but had lots of info I think other brides should know about.

And for gorgeous wedding porn pics my faves were Celebrations by Preston Bailey and Fête: The Wedding Experience by Jung Lee. (Those also make beautiful coffee table books so I’ve kept them around)

I am curious, why do all the other books suck so hard? Is it because there is little information, too much fluff? Dated info? Details!

I LOVE THIS BOOK! Like you, I also threw away money on useless wedding books but this one is always on my nightstand and I constantly reference it. It’s so informative, up-to-date and…classy! I would recommend this to anyone. I especially love the diagrams of different kinds of veils, dresses, etc.

I love this book! It’s the best; I’ve sent it to every one of my friends when they get engaged. Don’t you love the stickers in the back too?

I never bought any wedding books and it’s too late for me now, but I’m happy you found one that’s actually helpful!

I bought this book about a week after I got engaged and promptly read the entire thing in about two weeks (reading it at night is not recommended, I would get so involved in the book I couldn’t put it down! Not good for a college gal with class at 9am). It was SO helpful for me because I didn’t have much knowledge beyond what I saw on Who’s Wedding Is It Anyways? and Bridezilla. I would recommend this to EVERY bride, especially those without a ton of knowledge about the industry beforehand.
