About Mrs. Parfait

When your wedding date falls on someone else’s birthday or anniversary, there are a few ways you can react:

  1. Pretend like you don’t know. Feign surprise when people toast to them at your wedding.
  2. Ask them to celebrate it on a different day. Feign surprise when people don’t toast to them at your wedding.
  3. Plan a sweet and sneaky surprise like this couple did:

Happy Wedding/Anniversary/Christening/Birthday! : wedding reception 11 1

Happy Wedding/Anniversary/Christening/Birthday! : wedding reception 2 2

We don’t have any special occasions on our exact wedding date, but we do during the week before and after. We’ve chosen to celebrate them at our wedding, because we stink at feigning surprise… and because we love these people!

When we first chose our wedding date, I realized how close it was to my brother and sis-in-law’s wedding date! It will be their third anniversary, and I’ve been planning a little surprise for them since I started planning our wedding. I’m motivated by love and a little twinge of guilt. You see, I was born on my brother’s second birthday, which means he never got a birthday to himself. And now, I’m nearly taking his wedding anniversary! He just can’t get a special day to himself. I want to honor their anniversary at our wedding to thank him for sharing all his celebrations with me so graciously.

When we told my mom our wedding date, she suggested we have my nephew and niece’s christening the following day. Our extended family will be in town, which never happens anymore, and it’ll give people another reason to celebrate! Mr. Parfait and I love this idea—it would make our weekend even richer.

When we told Mr. Parfait’s mom our wedding date, she asked if she could bring a birthday cake for Mr. P’s little sis, who is turning 21 the week before our wedding. Of course, we encouraged her to do so! I’d love to present the cake with Mr. Parfait, like the couple pictured above.

Are you celebrating someone else’s special day during your wedding or wedding weekend?

i got married on my grandmother’s birthday.
When my family found out we weren’t having cake at our wedding (Mr. LL and I aren’t fans) they brought in a sheet cake (totally against our venue rules!)
I’m glad it was my wedding day and I could take it in stride!

We did have fun singing her happy birthday though :-)

We’re getting married on my parents’ 28th anniv., it’s my sister’s 20th birthday, and the two vocalists will be celebrating their 1st anniversary on our wedding day! (It has to be a record or something, right?) Still trying to think of a creative way to celebrate them all. :)

My cousin’s wedding anniversary will be the day before our wedding date, so we’re going to do something nice for them at our rehearsal dinner.

It’s actually our videographer’s birthday the day before our wedding, so we plan on treating him to a large cupcake!

My sister’s Sweet 16 is a few days after my wedding and we’ll be on our honeymoon. That’s a great idea to give her a birthday cake at the wedding! Thanks :)

My parents celebrate their 39th anniversary two days before our date. When they got married it was most common for cake and punch receptions so they never had a first dance. I would really like to have “their song” played so they can finally have that. :) That’s all I’ve been able to come up with so far!

A friend’s birthday!! Which seems not as big of a deal as a relative or family member’s birthday but… still! I think it’ll be fun :]

i’m getting married on my cousin’s/bridesmaid’s birthday. i was thinking of just putting some candles in a piece of our wedding cake and having a few of the family people sing to her. but maybe i should get her something of her own?? i’m interested to see what other people are doing….

Well my dad said a big “No” to any notice of his birthday.

My friends, it will be their 1st anniversary.

We are gettin married on Fathers Day, and Mr. BW’s Aunt and Uncles Anniversary! Whoops! Everyone has been really good about it. We are bringing out two more cakes, a “grooms cake” kind for the Dads and a mini wedding cake for our Aunt and Uncle. I really like traceynich0le’s idea of playing their song too- I just might steal that!

I mean, when its a distant relative and you didn’t know it was their b-day, then its no big. I just feel its so cold for people to not in some small way at least have recognition. So, you’re being very sweet and its not even on your wedding day exactly!!! Receptions are about the guests… some brides forget that.
Cheers to you!

P.S. I like the idea of at least sticking candles in a slice of wedding cake. You don’t have to sing happy birthday, but that is a kind gesture. Its what I would probably do… light the candles and give it to the person myself.

Our wedding date is also FI’s cousin’s birthday. I’m still trying to figure out exactly what we’ll be doing for her…a cake for sure, but I don’t know what else. We also almost share the same engagement anniversary as another cousin (the birthday cousin’s sister)…she and her now husband got engaged the day after we did!
