My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. About Ms Potato Chips

Recently someone asked us, “What kinds of hobbies do you two have?” and we looked at one another blankly as if trying to search for elegant phrasing for, “We like to say hello to each other at 10 PM when we’re both finally home from work, turn on Unwrapped, and fall asleep before learning how Ding Dongs are assembled.” After moments of awkward silence, Mr. PH blurted, ecstatically, “COOK! We like to cook!!”

“YES!” I chimed in, relieved. “Yes! We do like to cook!”

Enter: Mrs. Bruschetta’s awesome cookbook-guestbook idea. Isn’t she clever? I love the idea of having a guest book that will do double-duty, particularly in the kitchen.

I’m forever collecting recipes, bookmarking them, clipping them out, and/or blogging about them. I read cookbooks like novels. Mr. Potato Head, due to his jam-packed schedule, does his cooking late at night, fumbling with timers and spices at 1 a.m. What I’m saying is, we need some organization in our cooking lives. We couldn’t find a cookbook that really spoke to us, but MamaChips found a sweet alternative.

It’s a personalized recipe and entertaining journal, with plenty of space inside for future recipes, notes, and well-wishes from our guests. We’ve ordered it in green and inscribed “Oh happy day” on the side (to go with our yet-to-be-constructed signage). Like the Williams-Sonoma picture (above), I’ll probably store it next to my jars of preserved lemons above my ribbon drawer.

I like that it doesn’t scream “WEDDING!” I love the little pineapple on the cover. And we’ll really enjoy the heartfelt messages within when we go about making culinary messes.

What are you planning to use for a guest book?

I love your idea! I gave all of my guests postage paid postcards at our wedding and asked them mail me a special recipe….I then put them together with our family favorites and did a cookbook at tastebook.com. Everyone loved it so much that I ordered one for each of our family/friends this past Christmas!

I love this! I’m all for practical guest books. I haven’t got a clue what to do because I’m not much of a cook.

Loooove the idea. I must admit it took us forever to come up with a guestbook idea I wanted something “different”. We ended up getting a coffeetable book about Town Lake (we live in Austin) the Hike and Bike trail we walk/run weekly, and thats where he proposed to me. So its perfecto- serves as guestbook and coffeetable book. Lovin your idea though with the recipes. Had I not bought the book already I may have snatched up your idea…just sayin….

ohhhh… great idea! We sooo need to organize our recipes- I tried with a handmade recipe box for Mr P last year but we usually print out recipes/tear out. Genius P-Chips!

My cousins FMIL is doing something similar for her. As a shower gift for my cousin she asked all the guests to send in the favorite recipes to share with my cousin and some of their fondest memories of they have with her (and pictures). She’s going to put it all together into a recipe book of some sorts. I thought that was a cute idea…just like this one!

That’s a great idea! This made me laugh: “…I’ll probably store it next to my jars of preserved lemons above my ribbon drawer.” :)

Mr Frenchie and I both love to cook… and really don’t have any other hobbies. Mr Potato Heads response was probably exactly what we would have said haha

Glad everyone likes it! I deserve none of the credit. Without Mrs. Bru’s idea and MamaP’s scouting, I would be guest-book-less (and one hot mess in the kitchen yaknowimean?)
