Miss Gingham's Picture
Miss Gingham, Portland, OR Age and Occupation: 27, Creative Producer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Merchant Engagement Date: September 10, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: The Barn at Neocoxie Creek About Me: I grew up in Washington State and moved to Portland, OR after college (Go Cougs). I work for a rather large sport and fitness company as a Creative Producer where I spend my days bringing stories, athletes and products to life in the digital arena. It was at this company (and actually in the same department), that I met my fiance. We’ve been happily together as a couple for almost 2 years and friends for almost 3. We have a 2 year old Yellow Lab/German Sheppard Mix (he’s gigantic), and live together in our 1940s house that we bought together a little over a year ago. When not at work, you can find me in the gym or on the trails, reading a good book, enjoying Oregon Microbrews, learning how to remodel an old house, trying to acquire a green thumb, figuring out how to cook, watching football and basketball, or doing anything “outdoorsy” – camping, hiking, boating. By the way, I absolutely love country music, cowboy boots, bon fires, small towns, and in general, anything "country", which is why we're planning a down-home, casual, country-themed wedding in an 100 year old barn in the small coastal town where my fiance grew up.
About Miss Gingham

Ring, Ring

February 11th, 2010 @ 9:52 am by Miss Gingham

Oh yes, I know what you’re waiting for—the e-ring. You’re curious to know what Mr. Gingham got me, right? Of course you are, everyone always wants to know what the e-Ring looks like! :) I’ll end the suspense now… here you go. My lovely trellis setting, princess cut solitaire with a super-thick band (note - the band thickness was very important to me).

Ring, Ring : wedding rings 12 1

I picked this puppy out long before Mr. Gingham and I had ever talked about marriage. I don’t have the most dainty of fingers and I’ve always chosen rings with thick bands, and my e-ring wants were no different. I found the ring I wanted a long time ago on Tiffany’s website (who doesn’t browse there, right?). Anyway, I fell in love with the Lucida ring, but not the price tag.

I know many people who have rings from there, but I just didn’t want one. Because I am a bargain hunter I wanted to find a similar looking ring for much less.

After many hours of “interneting” I found out that Costco carries diamond rings and that their diamonds are actually of a very high quality. Read this article from ABC news for more info. So, I headed over to the Costco website and there it was—my dream engagement ring. It looks just like Tiffany’s but at a fraction of what it would cost there. I ended up showing the ring to Mr. Gingham many, many times, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that ring inside the box he proposed to me with. I love my ring. It makes me so happy every day I look at it. And do you know what else? It appraised for double what he paid for it!!! How’s that for a deal? I’ve already found the wedding band I want, and guess where we’ll be buying it from? Costco, of course! By the way, I never actually saw the ring in person so kudos to Costco.com for doing such a great job with their online images (and I’ve heard they have a great return policy).

Ring, Ring : wedding rings 21 2

Oh, and a little more on Costco (I love that place by the way). We’re the type of members where we get a percentage back from our purchases, so my engagement and wedding rings will actually be making us money that we can use later (I promised Mr. G he gets to buy a new TV after the wedding). We’re also thinking about booking our honeymoon through them. What a place!

Did anyone else bargain shop for their rings, or buy online? Where did you get yours from?

Simply gorgeous! I didn’t even know Costco carried diamonds…what a steal! My diamonds were Mr. Breezy’s grandmother’s. He proposed with her ring, but we then had them re-set in a setting of my choice.

Gotta love costco! It’s lovely (but I’m biased since it’s similar to mine). We went to a local independent jeweler because I thought I wanted a custom design, but it turned out that wasn’t necessary.

So pretty! And how awesome that he got sucha great deal! My fiance went to Diamonds Direct which only has three stores in the southeast. Their prices are much more reasonable than any of the other jewelry stores and they actually want to help you make the right decision and educate you, not just ’sell you a ring.’

Ooooh, having a wide flat band was really important to me too! When we were trying on rings the sales people looked at me like I was crazy when I told them that was the most important aspect of the ring, lol.

Gorgeous!

I don’t live close to a Costco, and it sucks — this makes me wish even more that we lived closer to one! :) Such a beautiful ring.

I’ve never seen a ring with a band on the thicker side and I actually really like it! We have a Costco here in town but I haven’t visited it yet but we do have a Sam’s Club that we are members of. They also have a jewelry case and the rings are pretty to look at, but unlike Costco, I don’t know about their quality at all. Way to be a bargain shopper :)

my mom enthusiastically suggested that we look at costco rings! while i would have loved to take advantage of the price, it’s kind of hard for us to get to a costco and we took the lazy way out by going to a shop in the city.

Love the ring! I’m a Tiffany’s Etoile girl ~ so I share your affinity for the fat band. :) Who knew Costco jewelry was so gorgeous??? Now I have something else to check out while I’m there…

FMIL always buys me jewelry from costco and I have to say it always is beautiful. Your ring is great!

I always loved the Lucida ring but didn’t want a Tiffany ring and certainly didn’t want the price tag. My guy reached out to a diamond distributor and found out who designs the Lucida for Tiffany and had him make it for a fraction of the cost. I think if you find a ring you like and then find a way to get it made for much less.

Thanks for all the compliments ladies. Love all you thrifty brides too and those who share my love of thick bands :)
@KLP2010: too funny. I was looking at rings at a local store and kept asking for thicker bands, the sales lady looked at me like I was nuts. Seriously, the thicker the better!
@marcam882: yeah, definitely check out Costco travel. We’re looking at Tahiti for our honeymoon and so far, the Costco prices are better than what I’ve been quoted through travel agents.

I too loved Lucida. I too hated the price tag. I too got an almost identical one for the fraction of the cost–are we the same person???

Congrats! Looooove the ring ;)
