Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.

A Little Sewing for Mr. Poodle

February 12th, 2010 @ 8:40 am by Mrs. Poodle

Early in our planning I searched for inspiration so I could show Mr. Poodle my ideas for his outfit. We both liked the idea of something really casual, and he decided he would like to wear a vest instead of suspenders (our first choice), so he left the search in my hands. But, I couldn’t find anything I 100% liked. That’s why I decided to make his vest myself!

I wanted to make something for the guys, since I’m making the dresses for all my bridesmaids. smile01 So this was the perfect project; it’s very simple and *hopefully* cute!

I found the exact fabric I wanted at Jo-Ann’s, and I used an online coupon so in the end the materials were really cheap (about $30.00 for materials to make 5 vests).

And as soon as we got home I started cutting. I used one of Mr. Poodle’s old vests as my pattern for the shape, because I didn’t like the pockets that one had.

First I cut all of the pieces, one for the back and two for the front.

(I’m using a solid darker brown for the back, and in person it’s not as shiny as in the pictures. Damn flash! :P)

Then I cut two strips and I sewed them to the back. I’m planning on adding 2 buttons, one on each end of the back strips.

This was the first fitting, to see how the back fit. There are no pockets yet, but I did mark where he wanted them with pins.

After that I cut a straight line and sewed two pieces on each side of the cut.

Here you can see the two pieces already sewed on to the front. TA DA! A pocket!

I sewed the edges and closed the pockets on the inside.

I though it looked very nice but I wanted to add a little secret detail, so on the inside of the left side I stitched this: TE AMO (I love you)

And since it looked kind of lonely I decided to enclose it in a heart.

Here the final result after sewing all the edges of the vest:

Here the final fitting where we decided I’m going to put 4 buttons on the front (it’s going to look better with the buttons).

And this is how the TE AMO looks on the inside! smile01 Mr. Poodle really likes it and he didn’t see it until the very last fitting, so it was a cool surprise!

Are you taking your groom’s wedding day look into your own hands? Are you personalizing his outfit in any way?

You sure are very talented lady! I sewed a few pillows once. That’s about as far as my sewing goes.

Love the embriodery you did on the inside.
