Mrs. Argyle, St. Louis Age and Occupation: 24, Project Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Pilot Engagement Date: February 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on Washington About Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.

Color Combo

February 12th, 2010 @ 11:51 am by Mrs. Argyle

We nailed down our colors pretty early. And, as cliche as it is for a fall wedding, we really want to go with reds and oranges. I had contemplated navy blue for a short period of time, but reds and oranges beat it out.

And, even though our wedding is in the fall, and reds and oranges are everywhere, I want to use them in a different way. My initial thought was to go with the color of fall foliage, but it just seems too overdone. And, after I had redesigned our invitation suite the first time (there were many revisions after that), I thought the best thing to do was stick with fresh and bold colors. So, with that being said, here are our colors:

I created an inspiration board right off the bat. The goal was to keep it modern and fresh and to replace traditional elements with new ones, and make the style more about us.

The colors will be displayed everywhere as “pops” of color, making it fun, with chocolate brown being a small accent color to help balance out the reds and oranges.

Did you know your colors right away or did you struggle with narrowing it down?

Gorgeous color scheme! I love how you managed to make it look modern and fresh, rather than rustic which is what I’ve usually seen. And that’s a great inspiration board!

I knew our color scheme right off the bat and it only took effort to convince my FI. I’m sure you’ve seen the “Love in Bloom” spread on the Brides website. Once I saw the gorgeous fluffy pink peonies contrasted against the sleek grey and silver, I knew that was it! So shades of pink (keeping it on the very light side) and charcoal grey and silver, with splashes of ivory to make it feel vintage.

When I first heard your colors, I liked them. But when I saw them come together in the headbands I made for you, I fell in love! And that was before I saw this inspiration board — gorgeous!

Love it! I am thinking very similarly, and I love the idea of brown being a small accent color- rather than the focal point. What would you call that shade of red? burgundy?

@littlecat: I think it’s closer to a cherry red.

Total struggle. I wanted so much to have orange and yellow in my wedding, but it got nixed by a certain fiance of mine. I’m so happy to see that you’re using it!!

Oh my goodness I *swooned* when I saw those invitations!! And since I’m used to any invitation with a pocket being at least $4 each, when I clicked on the link and realized they’re actually affordable, I swooned all over again! I just emailed them to the FI and these may well end up being our invitations! I’ve been going back and forth over whether to DIY invites, and risk it looking like a first grade project and taking 3 years, or to bite the bullet and buy them, even though it would put us over budget and deep down I know everyone except us and our parents will be throwing them away. I just hope that they turn out to be a dark enough red to pass for burgundy…

So our color scheme is burgundy with accents of cobalt blue and ivory. I knew burgundy right away because it’s one of both my and the FI’s favorite colors, and I knew it would be a really flattering color on my bridesmaids. The ivory accent came next, and it’s mostly because I love gardenias and magnolias, and wanted to incorporate them into the wedding (plus, everybody needs a neutral). The cobalt blue was much more of a last minute addition. The church we chose has _amazing_ blue stained glass windows everywhere, and after seeing it I felt like I couldn’t not include it.

I love your pallet! I think orange is such an under appreciated color, and you’ve made it look just lovely.

@ChiCat07: So glad I could help out in your planning process! You might be able to order a sample of that invite to see how the red turns out.

(((navy blue))) It’s my favorite.

I like your twists on it so far. I think of you everytime I see red, now. I don’t think that i-board looks fallish, just vibrant.
