Mrs. Hot Wings's Picture
Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
About Mrs. Hot Wings

I always wanted to be a ballerina as a child. And if I actually became one that could go en pointe, these are the pictures I would want on my wedding day.

Instead, I come from the world of figure skating. I spent nearly 10 years of my life completely devoted to it. And I have no pointe shoes to show for it.

This move probably won’t look so good in a wedding dress in the summertime, will it?

Nor would my favorite on-ice move… the layback spin:

So what is a gal to do? How can I use this awesome talent that I once possessed? We’re having a summer wedding, so any type of figure skating is out. Boo! I can’t do these moves to create any fun bridal pictures.

I mean, I could use a musical instrument like in this picture, but I really only played the violin for 1 year and the piano for 2. I figure skated for almost 10.

And then it hit me. Do what any good adult does when they can’t live out the dream they have always had… make the kiddies live it out for you. Oh yes… this is how it shall work. I will put my little flower girl in a tutu and let her twirl to her heart’s delight. Problem solved. I will live vicariously through her. Aww… to be an adult with power to dress others. Muwahhahaha.

OK, so it’s not THAT mean. Seriously, it’s not. Look at these cutie patooties:

OK fine. I’ll let you see one picture of me in my figure skating days. Just one, though.

How will you live out your childhood dreams? Or is the wedding itself THE dream?

Love the musical instrument idea.

Here’s a thought: why don’t you do a trash the dress session (even if it’s not with your actual dress) on ice? I think I’m going to do one on horseback just for fun.

Good thinking!

I was a competitive gymnast myself, so I don’t think I could, or any flower girl could relive that one in a dress - could make for an interesting TTD…

@lilyfaith: mmm… that’s an interesting idea. I wonder if that’ll work and if our photog could handle ice? I love that you’re using a horse! I totally want to see when you do it.

@Miss Sewing: You cheated! I would have too though ;)
@Osakagrl: I know right?!?! Remember, most of them is just the skirt. So you’ll have to get the lil one a leotard or something like that.

I love figure skating! (Watching - not participating). I think it’s extremely cool that you did it for 10 years. Why did you stop?

@tea: get a different used dress and roll in the mud and climb trees! That would be awesome.
@Arachna: My parents couldn’t afford the sport + college so they made me choose. I wasn’t getting to the Olympics anytime soon, so I chose college. I’m super excited about watching the Olympics though :D

Those pictures are adorable! I actually ordered my flower girl dresses from fairy wonderful. They came out adorable and I never expected so many people to compliment me on them. The girls looked like little pixie’s coming down the asile.

A word of caution - please read their etsy comments prior to ordering dresses from them. Also, PM me if you would like my full experience with fairy wonderful.

I LOVE the tutus! We have a 4 year old and a 7 year old… they’re sisters, so they have to wear the same thing or they will FLIP OUT!

Very cute! I definitely wasn’t a figure skater or gymnast of any kind, but a tutu would be so cute on our 2 little flower droppers! It may take some convincing though, cause the mister just said “…really?”.

That’s so cool that you were a figure skater! I used to idolize Kristy Yamaguchi as a kid. I love your idea of making the flower girls wear tutus–so cute!

ooh I like! I danced on and off for years (I kick myself for quitting…I miss it) but I never made it to point in ballet….jazz was more my thing anyway. I would love pictures like that! and I only played the flute in middle school….hmmh I’m sure I can think of something lol

and that’s awesome you were a figure skater. That was a secret dream of mine lol I think the TTD on ice would be awesome :-)
