The Big Ol’ Wish List

February 12th, 2010 @ 3:43 pm by Mrs. Pug

Last time I wrote about how Mr. Pug and I already have a lot of popular registry items. So, where did that leave us in terms of registering? Oh ho, don’t worry, we were not at a loss. Not here. I am happy to report, to what I’m sure is your great relief, that we indeed found some items that we are really really really excited to put on our registry.

Want to know the fancy* stuff? (Because who cares about the Microplane I registered for to replace my dying one…)

It’s an end-grain, 20×14 inch cutting board. End-grain boards are the sturdiest, least prone to warping, and supposedly keep your blades in shape longer. But also, isn’t it pretty? At first I thought it looked kind of funky but now I LOVES IT.

*I realize at this point it may be dawning on you that my version of “fancy” is pretty lame, but I can’t hear your thoughts. Lalalalalala….

This 4-quart casserole is the size that I’m missing. The pot I have is 8 quarts—huge. I don’t want to lug that thing out when I want to boil a small batch of pasta, cook some potatoes, etc. And it’s so cute!

These Chilewich placemats cost more than cloth placemats—but let me tell you, after years of entertaining, I am so over the cloth placemat thing. The staining, the washing, the ironing, the wrinkling… no more! These babies are made of vinyl, and very attractive.

Okay, that’s enough of a glimpse into my greedy little side.

Are there items on your registry about which you are particularly excited?

I love that cutting board. Real wood cutting boards are nice.

I’m looking forward to registering for a pasta pot (you know, the one with the strainer pot inside the regular one). I’ve had my eyes on one of those for quite some time!

LOVE the cutting board. I’ve heard of end-grain boards but I didn’t know they were good for your knives! I’ve already got *the kitchenaid* so I imagine we’ll register for a couple of the attachments.

Some must haves:

- A great wooden salad bowl (not too big and not too small)

- Mandolin

- Reidel Vinum Wine Glasses (a bit expensive but thinned lipped - it matters). If you break things easily, try the Schott Zwiesel at Pottery Barn

- A few Tablecloths (Williams Sonoma or Lenox) for a large table (you will be having family and friends over for dinner)

- Nice serving bowls for potatoes, stuffing and smaller ones for veggies

- Large serving spoons - everyone always needs more

- A nice clock

- A Stiffel lamp for your desk or entry

- A shower radio/CD player

Love,

An even older bride

Love the cutting board! We have a huge wooden chopping block, but I can’t always lug it out of it’s inconvenient storage space to chop just a tomato. Soemthing like this would be perfect and definitely more convenient! Plus, it’s really cool looking!

I LOVE the end-grain board; I registered for one too, but not as pretty as yours! As an “older” bride (OK, I’m 30…not too old but older than average) who has been with my FI for 12 (!!) years (and living together for 7ish), we don’t *need* a whole lot either but most of it needs updating to the “grownup” version (i.e. plates that match. That aren’t from the $1 store.). I’m excited for my:
1) Dyson–especially since my old vacuum decided to die
2) Towel warmer (too extravagant! But I hate getting out of a warm shower or tub to a cold towel!)
3) Le Creuset pot

We already have a lot of household items as well. Things we are looking forward to: a new vacuum, a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer, a vacuum food sealer, and some super fancy sheets.
