The Worried Pug

February 13th, 2010 @ 2:50 pm by Mrs. Pug

Time can do funny things—it can make you forget and distorts your memory, for better or for worse.

I’ve told you a little about my dress. Here’s a reminder, with someone else wearing it (and yes, she’s got much bigger boobs than I do, which some of you commented on the first time I posted this—thanks).

Recently, I had my first fitting. It was the first time I had seen my dress in over a year.

I admit, I was a little apprehensive. After all, I did not have the “aha!” moment when I found my dress, and doubts ensued. I narrowed down the cause of my concern to two possible reasons, neither of which really assuaged my dress doubts.

Possible Reason #1 for Dress Doubt
I had looked at so many dresses that my eventual decision became somewhat… scientific, if you will, because in this dress I had found several features of other dresses that I liked.

It had the: (1) rouched bodice; (2) asymmetrical waistline; (3) slight but not deep sweetheart neckline; and (4) fit and flare skirt. So it’s like a math equation where the sum equals the right dress, right? RIGHT???

Had I overly focused on these specific features above the holistic appearance of the dress? Was it just wrong to try to be so “logical” in buying a dress? Was it an experimental formula gone wrong?

Get me a fire extinguisher, stat!

Possible Reason #2 for Dress Doubt
Perhaps, after trying on about 100 dresses, I was suffering from dress fatigue, and allowed my desire to be done with the whole thing cloud my judgment. Oh why oh WHY didn’t I have an energizing cookie before my appointment?

I was a worried pug.

(I’m not sure my pug is actually worried in this photo, but pugs just kinda have a worried look, you know?)

Did any of you have dress doubts? What were the reasons?

my only dress doubts were of the PRICE. i was super bummed when i found i could have gotten it elsewhere for cheaper. sad when bridal shops prey on that “aha” moment and will charge you whatever because you arent in the right mind to negotiate with them.
but i love the dress so i guess its worth it. lol

and i LOVE your pug. sooo cute. *snort snort* (thats the pug snoring sound hehehe)

I have that as we speak. Mostly because my dress is too short. The lady at the salon assured me that I didn’t need extra length (Im 5′10″ for crying out loud!)
I shouldn’t have listened to her.

I love your dress. Can we see a pic of you in it? I think it’s gorgeous and sure you rock it!

I’ve just had dress “blah’s”. I was totally underwhelmed when I went into the first dress shop looking at gowns. I feel like I’ve got to be wow’d and have no idea what in the heck will even wow me.

Your puggie is cute in that sweater. He looks ready to go outside in the snow. Not worried! :)

i recently was very worried about my dress. choice. i only tried on dresses on two occasions and the second time (when I bought it) was there for several hours. But could have stayed longer. I loved it when i bought it, but kept having doubts and thought it was bc we became pressed for time to get my mom to the airport and i really wanted her to be there when i picked it out. it was way too late to cancel my order and i thought about just buying another one and selling the original. then i went and treid on the sample again and fell in love all over (and also got super excited that the sample fit a little better since i lost some weight!)

I had dress doubts. I picked an elegant dress that I felt slim in–no aha moment, just a “wow I have a waist” moment :). My hubby thought I looked great. But if I had it to do all over again I would have probably picked another dress. But here is what I will tell you—on my wedding day the LAST thing I was thinking about was my dress. I was finally married, having a great time and felt terrific. So understand that doubts happen, that watching wedding shows and reading magazines will make you rethink and doubt aspects of your wedding. But on the day you will be excited and happy. All the small stuff melts away….

I think being scientific while choosing a dress could be the right thing to do in a situation where you’ve tried on way tooo many dresses. I ended up buying a dress that I never would have even tried on save for the recommendation of the lovely lady helping me at the bridal salon. She listened to what I liked about the dress I thought I wanted, and after I tried on the dress she had chosen, I knew it was the one and I bought the floor sample (discontinued model, killer price).
So unlike you I have not had the dress doubts, but I can understand your perspective since I am having doubts about the Venue we’ve chosen.
Needless to say, it’s a beautiful dress! I think you are beating yourself up a bit over your choice since you didn’t have that “Ah HAH” moment and you were expecting that you should. Just because you didn’t have that moment doesn’t mean you didn’t pick the perfect dress, maybe you just need to bond with it =3 Take it out for a night on the town or something lol

Beaker! I second guess pretty much every wedding decision. There’s just sooo many options out there, it’s hard not to end up with doubts. But no matter what you wear, you’ll be a gorgeous bride, I’m 100% sure!

I definitely had dress doubts. My mother and one of my Bridesmaid’s told me it made my boobs look huge, and therefor, I felt like a whore. Two other BM’s cried because they thought it was so gorgeous. I actually haven’t seen it since the “Whore-looking” feeling, so we’ll see! But when I look at picture of it, I love it.

I’ve had dress doubts, but it’s mainly because I bought my dress so early. I sometimes wonder if I would have found something I like better if i kept looking. But I know I love my dress, so it’s okay! I can’t wait to find out how the fitting went!

i was freaking out because mine was a custom-made dress based on my own random design/idea, so it was an “it’s alright” moment when i put it on. i guess i have to admit i never had a WOW moment, but i didn’t dislike my dress overall.

i look forward to the next part of this story!

You HAVE to post a pic from the fitting!! I’m sure you look great in the dress (it’s so pretty!), but I understand the doubts. I, too, chose my dress very logically. I actually could NOT get emotional about any of the dresses I tried, for I had a mental plan of how many stores, how many dresses, etc. It wasn’t until I was alone with another dress (and the most awesome, understanding consultant!) and she had me try on a similar style dress to the one I kept going back to (but couldn’t commit to), and she told me flat out how I changed when I put on that dress and how I WANTED THE OTHER DRESS (even though it meant no sale for her!), that I finally came to terms with it. I left that store, went to the other, and when I tried on my dress again (for like the 6th time), I just knew. Not to say that I’m not worried whether I’ll still like it when it comes in in a few months, but we’ll deal with that when we come to it…!!

I have dress doubts…I definitely did not have an “aha” moment with mine–I had wanted ballgown and ended up with A-line and it’s very pretty and I’m sure I will end up loving it (every time I try on the sample–about 3 times) I have thought that it was very…pretty and flattering, but I just feel like there are SO many out there that there must be another one. Especially after watching that stupid TLC show, Say Yes to the Dress. Gives me agita! My first fitting will be soon…I’m sure it will be perfect but I think it’s natural to have doubts. Right?

When I picked up my dress from the store and tried it on again, I thought “Oh, no! Is this right?”. I still have 8 months until my wedding, and I hope that when it gets closer and I have it fitted to me I will get back some of that spark. I was smiling from ear to ear when I first tried it on in the store. I think it will be all good.
