About Mrs. Argyle

Au Naturale

February 15th, 2010 @ 3:10 pm by Mrs. Argyle

No, this post is now what you think it is about.

I’m talking nature here—flowers.

Let me start from the beginning. I do not have a desire to have my wedding covered in flowers. They just are not that appealing to me (yes, I can hear brides out there gasping right now). Flowers are beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but I really did not have any intention of incorporating a lot of flowers into the wedding in any way other than the bouquets. I’m not opposed to beautiful and extravagant centerpieces, and after some brainstorming, they just did not really fit the feel of the wedding. And, let’s be honest, Mr. Argyle really couldn’t care less. I have other ideas on how to incorporate color into the wedding reception, which are equally as beautiful, and just plain fun (if I do say so myself)! Plus, when your wedding ceremony site is practically a huge greenhouse with a ton of flowers, it doesn’t seem necessary to overdo it in flowers.

HOWEVER, in the past few weeks I have fallen. Hard. Over these:

Oh, ranunculus, how pretty you are. For those who know me, you know I don’t like roses, so why do I like this somewhat rose look-a-like? Trust me, it has nothing to do with it looking similar to a rose. It just has character, and fullness. How gorgeous is this bouquet?

I just think a full bouquet of these babies in red would be fun and different. They’d be a definite change of pace from your traditional rose bridal bouquet, which is obviously what I’m going for (the non-traditional part, that is).

What flower totally makes you swoon?

I think I’m using these also. They’re almost like peonies, at a fraction of the cost, and to think - I’d never heard of these until getting engaged! :)

They are gorgeous! We love peonies as well, but the budget does not. We are doing garden roses :)

I decided to use ranunculus because of that exact bouquet. I’m doing a ranunculus and peony bouquet, and my bridesmaids bouquets will be anemones. I told the florist to be creative with the rest of the wedding but NO ROSES!

Oh man, I love ranunculus too! I was completely clueless going into a meeting with my florist the first time, so when she said ranunculus I was like “sure, sounds fine”. But then I realized - it’s more than fine! They’re freaking gorgeous! :)

These are great. I’m fortunate that peonies will be in season for my wedding so we are going to have peonies galore from a local flower farm. :-)

Ranunculus, peonies, poppies, and dahlias set my heart aflutter. Thankfully it looks like we’ll be using most of those guys!

I fell in love with orchids. And of course they have to be super expensive.

anemones and alstroemerias are my favs :) I especially love white or blue anemones with black centers. soooo pretty! I don’t know that i’d ever seen a ranunculus before this post though. Those are quite pretty too. Much fuller, more body than a rose i think.
I like :) May have to add these guys to my dream wedding day bouquet!
