Miss Gingham's Picture
Miss Gingham, Portland, OR Age and Occupation: 27, Creative Producer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Merchant Engagement Date: September 10, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: The Barn at Neocoxie Creek About Me: I grew up in Washington State and moved to Portland, OR after college (Go Cougs). I work for a rather large sport and fitness company as a Creative Producer where I spend my days bringing stories, athletes and products to life in the digital arena. It was at this company (and actually in the same department), that I met my fiance. We’ve been happily together as a couple for almost 2 years and friends for almost 3. We have a 2 year old Yellow Lab/German Sheppard Mix (he’s gigantic), and live together in our 1940s house that we bought together a little over a year ago. When not at work, you can find me in the gym or on the trails, reading a good book, enjoying Oregon Microbrews, learning how to remodel an old house, trying to acquire a green thumb, figuring out how to cook, watching football and basketball, or doing anything “outdoorsy” – camping, hiking, boating. By the way, I absolutely love country music, cowboy boots, bon fires, small towns, and in general, anything "country", which is why we're planning a down-home, casual, country-themed wedding in an 100 year old barn in the small coastal town where my fiance grew up.
About Miss Gingham

My favorite color is orange. It’s been many colors throughout the years - purple when I was little, pink in high school (way too much pink when I look back in pics), red in college, and then at some point it just became orange. I’m not sure what it is - if it’s that I like wearing it when I’m tan, or that orange eye shadow tends to look pretty good with my blue eyes… I couldn’t really tell you how I began to like orange. But I did. Then I met Mr. Gingham whose collection of orange and black Beaver gear is larger than my entire closet and voila - a match made in heaven.

So when it came down to picking our colors, it was a pretty easy choice since both of us liked orange. I love the color but besides that, I wanted something that would pop in pictures. With the iffy weather of the beach and the chance for rain or grey skies, I think having a bold color will help everything stand out more. And Mr. Gingham is excited that all his buddies get to wear Beaver colors (including his best man, who’s a duck).

As far as coordinating colors, I still go back and forth.

If I end up going with a brighter orange I think we’ll use reds and golds as accents. If I go with a lighter orange, I think we’ll play up ivory, and add some pale pinks and gold. It’s a tough one, this orange. Finding the perfect shade is tricky because I can easily go down two different paths with this - bright orange would be more bold, more playful; it would bring a little more sass to the wedding. Light orange is more romantic, softer, and maybe even a little more formal?

Here are a few inspirations. I’m pretty hung up on bright, bold orange but we’ll see what happens when it comes down to finding that perfect orange bridesmaid’s dress to tie it all together.

The picture with the lanterns is stunning! I love the combo of the dark and medium orange shades with the lighter yellow and coral.

SIGH! Jealous… this is my “other” wedding if it had been in a warmer month.

Orange is a wonderful colour, and it certainly looks great with black, white and grey.
I personally would never choose orange, since it’s “my country’s colour”. Whenver there is a championship - especially with soccer - the streets turn orange.
Orange just has a different feel for me… but I think it could really look perfect!! :)

I think those pictures show a great shade of orange!!! Unfortunately being a graduate of Texas A&M it’s a little hard to like orange since burnt orange is the school color for Texas. ;)

I have to say, I think orange is one of those “unsung heroes” of color- it’s surprisingly flattering, yet not a lot of people utilize orange, so go you!

What great inspiration pictures! As the daughter of two UF grads, I’ve always had orange thrown into my life, and I still love it. (Even though I’m not a gator!)

Three cheers for orange. :)

I have orange as one of my wedding colors! (Light blue is the other color.) I loooove orange, and while I went with light blue for the BM dresses to go with the guys (FI is strawberry blond and can’t pull off orange), I’m trying to infuse orange into everything else! =)

Those ranunculus are gorgeous! I think it’s a great color with tons of wedding potential. As a Miami Hurricane and Tony Stewart fan, I’ve got plenty of love for orange… in all of its lovely shades. :o)

Yum, I love all your inspiration pics! I think the beauty of orange is it’s versatility…Personally, I think a darker burnt orange paired with navy is super-chic for fall…But you can’t go wrong with orange, red and gold!

You never see orange weddings (bright orange and hot pink, I’ve seen, but please don’t go there!)
I vote light orange. (Oh, wait you weren’t asking my opinion? ;) ) I love the pop of the bright orange, but if all of your BMs aren’t sticks, it may not be flattering. Will the GMs wear black & orange (grey or tan and orange might look nice??) I would get a fun, flirty sundress, so your maids can wear it again (like the 3rd photo). Ivory, pale pinks and gold sound very purty!

Those pictures are all great inspirations! I think you can feel good about your choice. From a Florida Gator here - you could probably also search for some Gator-themed wedding photos and find some good inspiration too. Good luck!

I currently live in “orange” country - literally, the Syracuse University Orangemen rule the scene here, so I can get a little sick of it, but your pictures make me love it! I don’t think you can go wrong!

LOVE orange, it’s my favorite color too! And it was my favorite color long before I went to University of Florida and became a Gator. :) Personally, I love the bright orange with gold and red accents. Or even copper and brown accents. There are so many great color combination with orange! Our wedding is in October and our colors are burnt orange, brown, copper, and dark red…basically the colors of the foliage in mid-October. :)

I love the idea of bright orange! I think it’s so fun and playful - and I think it would go really well with your country theme!!
