Hammuuuu!

Oink oink!

Vegans and Veggies please avert your eyes - this is a post full of pork!

Us Sewings love pork. Ham in sandwiches, ham and beans, char sui, pork ribs, pork rinds, you name it. Not quite a Ponyo-like obsession, but close.

So it’s not a stretch when I say we want a roast pig at our wedding. You know, the whole pig. Lechon.

Crispy, salty deliciousness.

As they are expensive, you don’t normally see them around unless there’s a celebration. Well guess what, a wedding IS a celebration! So I have the perfect excuse.

And since it’s Hawaii, pig roasts are common and culturally acceptable. So we have the perfect means.

So I talked with our banquet manager, and indeed, pig is an option. I ordered confidently, “one whole pig, please!”, and now the mouth-watering spread is on our menu. And there are no vegans or veggies in the house, so I’m not too worried about offending anyone with my carnal gluttony.

Anyone else roasting a pig for any of their wedding festivities?

We LOVE Lechon and if we had the reception at a place that let us do our own catering, we would have had a whole pig. I’m actually considering for our housewarming. :)

mmmm I loved all the pork we ate in Hawaii on our honeymoon. It was the best pork I ever had. If they made it like that here in MN then I would have ordered it in a heartbeat for my wedding. I don’t know if I’d want a whole pig on display (because that kind of freaks me out), but it is cool when they unearth the pigs at the luaus.

I love lechon! Yum yum. We’re lucky in that we have the cooker and a great butcher to be able to do them ourselves. We had initially considered doing this at our wedding, but went another way. In any case, it will be a great treat for guests!

I LOVE char siu. If I could have a whole animal at my reception I think it would be duck, Peking duck. But whole pig is a close second for sure!

Wow my dad would be so excited to have that at our wedding but I think we are going to have to go with the all ready butchered variety

We are having a pig roast, too! FI’s family has a farm, though, so we have our own pig. So delicious.

If my venue had that option, you could bet on us having a whole pig at our reception! Sadly, they don’t. So we will have to live vicariously through you, Miss Sewing!

I love ham! I have never had a whole roasted pig (not going to lie, the whole thing with the head freaks me out), but it sounds like it would be delicious!
