Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
About Mrs. Poodle

This past weekend we finally finished one of my favorite projects: woodware sets! smile02

Fabric, Buttons, and Woodware: I’m in Love : wedding crafts decor diy 114 wood-wear1

And event thought it looks like a “piece of cake” kind of project, we had a lot of people involved in the process.

About 4 months ago my Aunt J gave me a HUGE jar and a bag of buttons. From the minute I saw them, I knew I wanted to make something for the wedding with some of them, because they are SO CUTE! So, a week later I had Mr. Poodle and Groomsman Scott help me separate all of the brown, purple and green buttons from the jar.

They complained after the first half hour!

I was a happy girl in a sea of buttons! smile02

After a couple of hours we had this bag full of buttons, and step one was complete.

Then I selected a few different colors of fabric to make the ring napkins out of.

My MOH made a soup with water, flour, and glue to give the fabric more body and to prevent fraying.

We let them dry in the backyard.

Then, we cut little strips.

I wanted to sew the buttons and make button holes with the sewing machine, but after sewing all of our invitations and labels, my enthusiasm for sewing little details started to fade. In the end I chose to sew all the buttons by hand and just glue the fabric on to the backs. It might not look like what I originally imagined, but at least I still have a love for sewing, so it was for the best. I don’t want to end up hating my sewing machine!

This weekend, with the help of Mimi (Mr Poodle’s grandma) and more family members at the ranch, we sewed all of the buttons to the little strips of fabric.

We made 210 of them! After that we assembled the napkins and the awesome bamboo-ware!

The only catch is that we had to buy 1000 sets of bamboo-ware because that was the minimum, so now I have to find a way to use the 700 that we are not going to use for the wedding.

Do you have any ideas for what we should do with the rest of the bambooware?

This post made me want to do this - even though I have absolutely no reason to! Super cute!

I second @bluebutterfly about selling adorable sets on Etsy!

Or you could always donate your leftovers to a charity (karma points!) or sell it all to another bride.

I love these! We’re thinking about doing something similar, although probably not quite as adorable. :) Thanks for all your posts - I love reading about what awesome new thing you’ve come up with!
