Mrs. Rainbow, Tampa Age and Occupation: 22, Makeup Artist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/Programmer Engagement Date: November 27, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Gamble Plantation About Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. About Mrs. Rainbow

Gimme, Gimme (Amazon.com)

February 17th, 2010 @ 6:05 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

Mr. Rainbow and I initially registered at Crate & Barrel and Target. Both times we went to the actual stores and scanned the items. At C&B this worked out great; the items we scanned showed up in our online registry with absolutely no problems whatsoever. Not so much at Target. Some of the items we scanned in the store wouldn’t pull up on the online registry—the item number would come up with no picture. Obviously this was a problem, because people aren’t going to purchase something off of your registry without so much as a picture to know what it is they’re purchasing.

I went through our Target registry trying to sort it out and figure out what the items were that we wanted, but that didn’t show up on the registry. Some things we registered for in store weren’t even available online! I don’t know who’s in charge of the Target registry, but I must say, as a loyal Target shopper, I was really disappointed in their system. They’ve got way too many kinks in their system than I would think is acceptable for a huge chain like Target.

Luckily, I discovered the Amazon.com wedding registry, complete with Universal Registry Button (seriously, uh-may-zing). Whatever you can’t find on Amazon (which isn’t much), you can register for with the URB—it’s brilliant. Needless to say, I deleted our Target registry and hopped on the Amazon train!

Here’s a few of our favorite items on our Amazon registry.

Gimme, Gimme (Amazon.com) : wedding registry 415jqdr KitchenAid KSM150PSPK Komen Foundation Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Pink

source

KitchenAid Artisan 5qt Stand Mixer (Pink)- Is there anything I need to say about this, really? It’s the registry item of all registry items. It’s a mixing workhorse that outlasts most humans- often being passed down through the generations. I registered for it on Amazon because C&B doesn’t have any of the fun colors, except red. Mr. Rainbow was a bit leery about a pink kitchen appliance, but I’m the cook/baker, so I ultimately got my way on this one.

Gimme, Gimme (Amazon.com) : wedding registry 51vspml Product Image Fieldcrest® Luxury Damask Stripe Duvet - Blue

source

Fieldcrest Luxury Damask Stripe Duvet- I absolutely love this bedding. It’s so calming and relaxing looking, it just makes me want to crawl into bed and sleep. After our broody red, dusty purple, and grey bedroom, we’re both ready for a more relaxing color palette. This duvet is so pretty and soft, and it’s just what we need for our bedroom. Since we moved into our loft in October, the bedroom has pretty much been the forgotten dungeon and is in desperate need of an overhaul. This will definitely be a step in the right direction in turning our bedroom from dungeon to sanctuary.

Gimme, Gimme (Amazon.com) : wedding registry 473 Pho AeroGarden 6 - Black

source

AeroGarden 6 (Black)- I love plants, but I have a pretty serious case of black thumb. Pretty much any plant I touch, I kill- with the exception of orchids. I’ve tried having both a flower garden and an herb garden, and unfortunately they’re all in plant heaven right now. AeroGardens grow herbs and flowers with no dirt and it alerts you when it needs more water or nutrients. Idiot proof gardening = perfect for me.

Gimme, Gimme (Amazon.com) : wedding registry Z210418 cb2

source

CB2 Perspective Mirror- If you didn’t know, CB2 is basically Crate & Barrel’s young, hot cousin who is a wee bit more modern and edgy. If C&B and Urban Outfitters had a baby, this would be it. We registered for 2 of these mirrors and I really hope we get them—they’re almost like funhouse mirrors—visually interesting and different. I love how the mirrors all angle differently, almost making it more art than mirror.

Gimme, Gimme (Amazon.com) : wedding registry Z210419 sofa

source

Urban Outfitters Antoinette Fainting Sofa- This item took a bit of convincing. Mr. Rainbow wasn’t too sure about the purple at first, but it complements our living room colors perfectly, and it’s the perfect size for this hollow we have by the stairs which I’ve already deemed “The Book Nook”. I’m happy to say that we’re now both on board and agree that it’ll look pretty damn amazing in our apartment. At $575 It’s our only big splurge item that we’re asking for, but I’m hoping that a few people will want to pool their money together on one big gift, and if not, well, I think we’ll just have to buy it for ourselves!

Did you register somewhere only to be disappointed? Are you registered at Amazon.com? If so, have you used the magical Universal Registry Button?

i gotta say i’m really unimpressed with target too. a lot of the things that we scanned didn’t even come up at all on the online registry! it just had a blank spot with no picture or description. i couldn’t even remember what it was supposed to be. and a lot of stuff that we scanned wasn’t available online and I’m assuming most people are going to be shipping stuff to us, so that was pretty stupid too.

we stuck with it b/c we liked the stuff that we did register for, but i wish we would have done an amazon one too!

I plan on registering at target too I hope things go smooth for me! I thought about using amazon or something online. I sadly realized that most of my Fiance and My family don’t shop online! I really don’t care for it either becuase you never really know what your getting, the condition etc and plus there just not those internet savy people! So I have to keep in mind who I’m inviting before I got register for everything online! Not everyone likes to shop online! And I know if I did something like Amazon or soemthing like that I pry would get most of the stuff I registered for! I wish the people I knew where more internet savy though!

I did everything on Amazon because of the use of the Universal Registry Button. There were so many things I wanted at speciality sites and using Amazon allowed me to registry for such items.

I am also registered at BBB because I think they have the best products for bath (mostly towels) and bedding. So we have two registries. No problems with either.

Everything you have listed here is great! I really want the mixer too-but probably in tangerine color for me. I’ve thought about Amazon for our registry (we haven’t started one yet) but I wonder if my family will get a little miffed about it since it’s not a store they can’t go into. Got to think about it. I did use Amazon for my Christmas Wish List :)

Does anyone know how returns work with the Amazon registry? I’m scared of changing my mind or getting doubles or something like that.
Also, I’ve heard that some Target locations can give you trouble with returns - as in asking for an original receipt, which you obviously won’t have if it was a gift.

I’ve heard terrible things about Target registries (actually registering with them, online registry problems, returns). Makes me sad, as it is so convenient to shop there.

I used to work at Target part time and this is a constant problem. A lot of it is due to the store turns its product over in Jan/Feb and then again in June/July. When this happens a lot of items aren’t carried over to the “new” products that are carried in store. Therefore, they A) Don’t show up on the registry B) Shows “limited availability” in store only. This is a huge pain for everyone and your best bet is to register as close to your wedding as possible. Something that Target really needs to change. Returning items is also hell, you must have a gift receipt.

I just recently found out Amazon has a registry! If returns will be fairly easy future hubs and I will be all over that. C&B too. We wanted Target but after hearing bad review after bad review, I think we’re not going to.

I hate the Target registry, but I didn’t want to put too much on my Amazon registry because of the hassle of returns. I wonder if you can add gift cards to your universal registry? ;)

I have to say I really love the red mixer we have (wish they made them in flour color because I’m always spilling and it ends up with a light dusting of flour) and it definitely outworks peoples! I tend to have a bit of a black thumb too, so getting a little rainforest-type plant is nice for me since I tend to overwater the crud out of plants. Although I did accidentally kinda kill the bamboo plant that my FI made me get…second one I’ve managed to ‘destroy’ Haha!

I never even thought about registering with Amazon! The KitchenAid mixer is definitely on the list. I’ve been begging for one for years!

YES, Amazon registry rocks! We’re registered at Macy’s and Amazon. I’ve been trying to push all the items I can onto the Macy’s one since we get rewards back on all purchases there (since I have a Macy’s card), but honestly, I keep finding everything I want on Amazon and not much at Macy’s. I really love the stats you can look up on Amazon’s registry info too, it’s really cool seeing what the most popular registered-for items are.

Returns are super-easy with Amazon. I asked my parents for the Kitchenaid Stand Mixer for Christmas and my mother somehow accidentally purchased three of them for me. All three arrived. All I had to do was go to FedEx and say that I refused the extra packages and they sent them back with no charge or hassle to me.

My friends registered there and I’m kind of jealous that we didn’t, but our registries are already set up, invitations sent and registries up on our website already. I’d hate to change it now.

We ordered a mixer too. I hope I use it. :)

that’s always been my issue with the target registry. i don’t like shopping in the store looking for an item [weird because i'm always there so it's not like i don't know where everything is!] so i just buy online but they don’t always have the same items in store and online. boo.

but i plan on getting myself a green kitchenaid mixer as a graduation gift! i just couldn’t wait for the wedding registry. lol
