About Miss Lovebird

Wedding Day Part XVI: Dancing with Our Parents : wedding pictures pro pics recap Z210431 z210431

Eons ago, weeks after getting engaged, I had come across this post by Mrs. Apple and not only was I bawlin’ by the end of the post, but I knew one thing was for certain when my wedding came around. I didn’t have a date, let alone a venue, but I knew what song I was going to dance to with my father at my wedding… “I Loved Her First” by Heartland.

Look how nervous Daddy Lovebird looks in this picture!

Luckily, Erin spent some time with us after my emergency dance lesson with Mr. Lovebird to teach us a basic routine. Man, did my dad take our dance seriously. Heck, he even asked me to practice with him in the hotel lobby after I just got my hair and makeup done a the hotel spa (sans wedding dress, of course!).

Is that a smile I see? Here’s one of our spins.

Wedding Day Part XVI: Dancing with Our Parents : wedding pictures pro pics recap Z21043103 z21043103

“From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she’d find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first”

Wedding Day Part XVI: Dancing with Our Parents : wedding pictures pro pics recap Z21043104 z21043104

I had the feeling he wanted to cut our dance short so I had to tell him, “Keep dancing.”
What can I say, my daddy’s shy.

Wedding Day Part XVI: Dancing with Our Parents : wedding pictures pro pics recap Z21043105 z21043105

Even though he seemed nervous for the most of the dance, I knew there were moments we also had fun!
Can’t you tell by our smiles?

I was always afraid I might break down crying during our dance, but I think the fact that we had a game plan made it easier for the both of us.

To me, it was one of the highlights of my wedding. Even though I was now a married woman, I was still very much daddy’s little girl.

Our dance was followed by Mr. Lovebird’s dance with his mom to “A Song For Mama” by Boyz II Men.

I would give my left arm to dance with my daddy on our wedding day. I wish so badly that he could be there, but I know he’ll be watching from heaven that day!

I thought for a while that “I Loved Her First” would be my daddy/daughter dance, but I BAWL every time I hear it and, as I’m not a pretty cryer, I can’t do that to myself. My dad and I will be dancing to “Daughter” by Loudon Wainwright III. As for Mr. Twista’s dance with his mom? That’s still up in the air. She nearly cries every time he brings it up so the conversation never gets past, “Mom, we need to pick a song to dance to.”

Aww what a sweet moment! I don’t think I’ve heard that song before, so I’ll have to check it out at home later tonight. :)

@ Twista: I was just practically bawling at my desk (at work, mind you) when I listened to “I loved her first”. I don’t think I want to get that emotional either :)

We chose the same songs for the parents dances at our wedding. What a coincidence!

We’rd definitely doing a father/daughter dance, but the song is a secret/surprise.

The Mr. is still debating on a mother/son dance….

Judging by your pictures, you’d never know that your dad was nervous!

That’s a beautiful song.
My dad and I have been practicing our father/daughter dance since I was a kid. Not really, but we did used to dance around the kitchen while he sang ‘My Girl.’ I am concerned about my FI and his mom dancing. He’s a dancer, but she is most certainly not.

Sadly the parents’ dances are one of the things I will miss not having since we’re not having a traditional reception. You looked beautiful and you’re so cute with your dad.

Beautiful pictures! We’re doing a father/daughter dance but FI and his mom don’t want the attention so there won’t be any mother/son dance. I would love for them to have that moment, but I respect their wishes.
