Mrs. Hot Wings's Picture
Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
About Mrs. Hot Wings

I left you last with the first wedding photo checklist of people. Now we move on to some detail shots. Again, I’ll remind you that this is not your ordinary list; these are “extra” shots. These shots showcase a little bit more than the traditional shots that most experienced wedding photographers will remember to shoot.

(1) Ring shots with personality. These ring shots give you a bit more information than just the beauty of the wedding rings.

This one that screams… we’re bookworms!

(2) Dress details. To me this may be more important than the actual preservation of the dress. Should anything happen to my dress in a “trash the dress” session, or if I decide to sell it, I’ll have shots to help me remember this dress in all her glory. She deserves it, in my eyes. I know there will be plenty of shots of me in the dress, but I feel like she also deserves some close-ups showing her detail and glory.

(3) A glorious shoe shot! This is not just the shot of the shoes. Oh no. That would be much too easy. Any item worn by the bride is lovingly chosen. And as such, they deserves to be shown off in all their glory. Shoes, my friend, need to be shown off with fierceness. Or maybe even with a little slyness. I am thinking of wearing some blue shoes that my mother doesn’t know about. I don’t think she’ll notice… but I plan on keeping it a secret until they make their debut on wedding day. Slick, right?

(3) The invitation/paper shot. Don’t forget to bring these along with you. Better yet, send them to your photographer or your coordinator to make sure you get shots of them. This is especially important to me because of the level of DIY-ness for our paper goods. (Don’t worry, you’ll see them soon enough!) They will surely need to be immortalized in photographs, indeed.

(4) The ride… because I intend on having an awesome one! So no, I don’t want just any old shot of the beauty I intend on riding in. Like any good accessory, I want it shot in style… looking hot, pristine, and glam! This picture reeks of class, glam, and subconsciously tells you what an amazingly sunny day the wedding day was. Right?

(5) The set up before guests arrive. I think this one is important. It’s always nice to have a shot with all of your guests, but given all the work and time you put into making the space a beautiful one, I think it’s only fitting that you have an image of it as you imagined it in design.  What about having a videographer film your guests entering and then having a time lapse of it? Sweet!

My flowers, table numbers, unity candle, the sign in table, the bathroom baskets, my hair…I was sad because I really felt like we had a lack of detail shots that I worked so very hard on.

P.S. Don’t even get me started on the SUPER SUPER detailed list I would put together for the people I want photos wish…if only I could go back in time.

My advice is just to make all your wants more than obviously clear so you have something to fight with if things don’t go as you expect.

I totally thought of Miss Sewing when I saw the first picture! I think you’ve put together a great list. I remember seeing the book picture a while ago and thinking “I want that!!”

I agree 110% with you on all those important shots! I was planning on getting by with a new but mediocre pair of shoes for the wedding since no one would see them (covered by my dress) but now I’m thinking real hard about that silly decision.
