Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
About Mrs. Cola

Now that my shoe obsession has been properly established, you can fully appreciate the story of how I found the perfect wedding shoes that weren’t.

Upon getting engaged last March, the shoe search began. Around the same time I also began looking for wedding inspiration pictures, and looked at everything tagged “purple” on TheKnot.com. This was how I first found these gorgeous purple and champagne beaded heels. The end all, be all shoes. The. Must. Have. Most perfect shoes ever!

I was head over heels (pun intended!) in love with these shoes. And let me tell you, I spent months and months trying to find them. I set up Google and eBay alerts, using any and all search terms I could think of. I scoured the internet looking everywhere. I think I spent probably 100 hours altogether trying to find these or similar shoes, without any luck.

By the end of last summer, I’d all about given up hope. I didn’t think I would ever find the perfect, magical shoes, and started looking for other options. I even went so far as to try to imitate the shoes, like in this Photoshop mock up I did on random purple shoes I found on Zappos:

Chronicles Of A Shoe-Obsessed Bride, Part 2 : wedding shoes Purple02
I bought some inexpensive purple heels and some lace appliques, intending to try to duplicate the shoes (with the flower on the toe removed), but later decided it was a fool’s errand; they were never going to look as good.

Chronicles Of A Shoe-Obsessed Bride, Part 2 : wedding shoes Img 55903 Chronicles Of A Shoe-Obsessed Bride, Part 2 : wedding shoes Img 56001 Another month or so passed. I found and placed the order for my wedding dress. I continued to search for an alternate pair of dreamy purple heels, but time and time again went back to the picture of the beaded ones on The Knot.

Finally, in mid October, genius struck (or crazy internet stalkerness struck, whatever you want to call it)! It occurred to me to e-mail the photographer of the shoes, to see if he had any idea where they were from. He, of course, did not (and probably thought I was an insane bride for asking… uh, yeah, I am! Why do you think I spent my entire last post establishing how much I love shoes?). But I then thought to Google the bride’s name, and that’s where I hit pay dirt!

It turns out, the bride works for her family’s photography business, which was about the third Google result. I quickly filled out the company’s Contact Us form on their website, saying that I knew it was a long shot, but did anyone have any idea where the featured shoes were from? And guess what? Her mom responded, saying they were actually the bridesmaids’ shoes, not the bride’s, and her other daughter just happened to still have the shoes in her closet, and would be happy to sell them to me!!! This bride’s mother didn’t even think I was silly for contacting her and was very happy to find a home for the shoes.

I was so insanely happy that I seriously thought I might die! Who cared if the shoes were a size and a half too big? Padded inserts and the ankle strap would make it work! They were in the mail and on their way and I HAD THE PERFECT WEDDING SHOES!

Chronicles Of A Shoe-Obsessed Bride, Part 2 :  wedding shoes Ohmygod  {Source}

That was, until I actually received the box in the mail and opened them and…. they were not purple! I was completely crushed. My heart was torn out and stomped on and pierced with the stiletto heel of these shoes. My mom had always said that the picture of the shoes didn’t look purple on her computer screen, but on my home laptop and both monitors at my work, they were definitely, undeniably purple in the picture. And, I’d found them by looking at purple tagged wedding pictures on The Knot.

So, want to see what they really look like? They are still very pretty, but not purple! More of a bronze/green shade, with bronze beads.

Chronicles Of A Shoe-Obsessed Bride, Part 2 : wedding shoes Img 56002 Chronicles Of A Shoe-Obsessed Bride, Part 2 : wedding shoes Img 56003 Chronicles Of A Shoe-Obsessed Bride, Part 2 : wedding shoes Img 56004 And a side by side comparison of the actual color and the pro photo color:

Chronicles Of A Shoe-Obsessed Bride, Part 2 : wedding shoes Sideby I was seriously crushed, but my mom suggested I wait until after my wedding dress came in in mid February, and decide what to do once I could see the dress in the gold color I ordered. In the meantime, I considered using fabric pens to turn the shoes purple, which I tested on some scrap fabric.

Chronicles Of A Shoe-Obsessed Bride, Part 2 : wedding shoes Img 475 Chronicles Of A Shoe-Obsessed Bride, Part 2 : wedding shoes Img 476 Chronicles Of A Shoe-Obsessed Bride, Part 2 : wedding shoes Img 477 The fabric pen in the last picture above worked the best, but it is quite dark, and might just blend in and make the shoes a darker color of green/bronze/purple. And the beading would still be bronze. :(

So I’m pretty much at a loss, and I need the hive’s help. These are really pretty shoes the way they are, and they do go with my gold dress, which I finally just got to pick up (but still need alterations). But it just breaks my heart to not get to wear purple heels on my wedding day, and plus, the shoes really are way too big. And if I try to change the color of the shoes, I’m afraid I might just ruin them forever, which would be a shame, too.

So, please help me!

What should I do?

Hmm… I think you should find new purple shoes, b/c a size and a half is too much to trump around in all day, even if you turn these bad boys purple! What’s your ideal price range? I do love a good search! :)

I think you should find different shoes. A size and a half too big is going to be SO uncomfortable on your wedding day! I’m sure you’ll find some other shoes that you love just as much.

And btw, they totally looked purple on my screen too! Wierd!

I too was on the search for purple shoes, but alas - I have horrible foot problems… no heels for me. These are my flats from Nordstrom, BC Footwear!

@Miss Stripes: Yes, please help me find new shoes if you can!!! I’ve searched all the obvious places online like Zappos, Endless, 6pm, Nordstrom, Saks, etc, and have found nothing that makes my jaw drop and me jump out of my chair, squealing “Must have!” THAT is the pair I need to find, another end all, be all pair of purple heels. At this point, I’d say I don’t have a budget, if I could find the perfect pair, I’d pay whatever! Just as long as they aren’t suede. I have a thing against suede purple shoes, and so many of the purple one’s seem to be suede….

I say sell them since they are unworn. Buy a pair of shoes you LOVE and don’t have to do a ton of work too. It’d be one thing if you know you can change the color, but another if you’re only attempting to do so and you can’t sell them afterwards! The Spring collection came out recently maybe there are more shoes out there. You’ll have these shoes as backup if you can’t find anything else.

I agree with Miss Stripes. Although they are pretty, I think you will regret trying to wear them all day if they are that much of a size difference. I wouldn’t try the color pen, it may not look good and then you won’t be able to sell them to someone else. Big disappointment that the pro photo was so different :( On my screen the pro photo was purple too.

I definately think you should sell them and find new ones.. they will never end up looking the way you envision and you’ll regret trying and ruining them.. and you’re clearly not in love with them as is.. I’m sure you will find awesome shoes to wear

I agree with Miss Stripes - find another pair that is purple and fits. What size are you looking for?

@Mrs. Lamb: I usually wear a 6 1/2, but sometimes a 6 or a 7 depending on the shoe.

These are probably too big and I’m just torturing you, but: http://www.theoutnet.com/product/33847

I would try to keep looking, but eek, it’s nerve-racking!

@Miss Ribbons: Now those are hot, but yeah, way too big. :( But on the right track….if I could get a shoe clip made to match my jewelry, those might work!

Oh, that’s so sad! It seemed like a story right out of a movie, until it turned out the color was wrong :/

I don’t think you’ll be able to wear these shoes (lovely as they are) without being dissapointed in what they’re not. And I agree with Miss Stripes - 1.5 sizes is an awful lot.

I don’t know what your budget is, but with your adoration of shoes, and specific vision for what you want, have you thought about having a pair custom made? I had never even heard about it, but just read this article http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/04/fashion/04SHOES.html?scp=1&sq=shoe%20class%20design&st=cse a few weeks ago. Maybe you can find someone to make you the shoes of your dreams?

Good luck!

I admire what you’ve been through for the perfect shoes, but I think you’d be a fool to wear those on your wedding day. Let go of the photog’s pic (which obviously wasn’t an accurate representation) and find yourself a beautiful pair of purple shoes that fit you! You don’t want to be reminded about how you settled by looking at pix of those shoes. Good luck!

Yeah, if they’re way too big… I’m afraid that just wouldn’t be comfortable! They’re GORGEOUS though!

I voted for finding a new purple shoe. You don’t love them and it’s not worth it to stumble around in a shoe that doesn’t fit. And there is bound to be the perfect shoe out there!

Wow, I can see why you went gaga over those shoes. Who makes it? I think if it’s 1.5 sizes too big then it’s a lost cause…There are way too many beautiful pairs out there to be wearing shoes that don’t fit on your wedding day.
