I Am Ready

February 19th, 2010 @ 2:41 pm by Ms Potato Chips

Have you seen this video on OffBeat Bride? A woman filmed it to let her boyfriend know she was ready for the next step in their relationship. I was stunned by its loveliness and her simple statement of commitment. It made me want to wave my arms about and say,“You go girl!” But let’s face it, I can’t really pull that off.

Would you have considered something like this? How did you let your partner know you were ready?

That is so beautiful! I think there’s something so magical about watching balloons just float off into the distance. I love the music they used, too.

This was really beautiful :) Not sure if I would have the balls to pull something like this off- but I’m pretty sure my husband would really like it (well, he would like it if he felt the same :)

How interesting. I had to watch to it with the sound off since I’m at work. I think I missed something.

That is a much better way of saying “I’m ready to be married” than a “why won’t you propose to me” argument that a friend of mine had with her boyfriend, which sparked a huge fight and breakup.

What a wonderful video!

I enjoyed this a lot on Offbeat Bride, it is beautiful and very well-done. I do wonder about the history of the woman and her partner, and imagine that perhaps there was some concern in the past with the woman *not* being ready and having expressed that. In that case, how beautiful to make the statement this way. I would be concerned, though, that other women would take a cue from this film to take steps with their partners who already know they’re ready, in which case the “announcement” would feel more like pressure for a proposal when the potential groom might not be ready to make the proposal.

My FI knew I was ready a very long time before he proposed, because we committed to each other that we would be married one day. Unavoidable circumstances prevented it from becoming reality for many months, but he always knew I would be ready when he had decided the time was right.

I agree with @LittlestBirds: I was wondering if this is how she told her partner that she was now ready when she had said she *wasn’t* before.

I think it’s lovely, though I wouldn’t do something like it myself. :)

Love this! I think this is a lovely thing to do. Even after he proposes, to say I am so ready to be with you forever, too! We underestimate how big of a deal planning a proposal is. I think this would be a sweet thank you!

That is such a cute idea!

@suzanne1880 The song is called Wonder-Dummied by Brooke Waggoner. The part in this video is actually about 2 minutes into it.

How lovely! And yes, what song is that???

FI and I are both in our mid to late thirties and a few months into the relationship had a pow-wow of “are we on the same page about this being serious.” We’ve had similar discussions about what we each needed to be ready to move in together and to talk marriage.

That’s beautiful. Love it. Though I suppose she could have just proposed to him?

Looks like the gal in the video IS engaged now:

From her comment on Offbeat Bride:

P.S. My boyfriend did propose a month after I gave him this video on our magnificent vacation in Santa Barbara, California on a frickin’ mountain top… it was worth waiting for!

Kudos to her! And what a lovely way to express her wishes to him!

@Mrs. Mouse: Definitely! I guess I saw this (without knowing the back story that this was her way of bringing marriage up for discussion.
