Mine at Last: The Lambaids!

February 20th, 2010 @ 6:55 pm by Mrs. Lamb

Since I haven’t been a bridesmaid myself before, I didn’t really know what they should do except for all sorts of contradicting notions thrown about the interwebs. I thought about what I wanted, which was ultimately to be surrounded by friends who would understand me when I had an emotional meltdown, who would laugh at my jokes, who would hold my hand, and who would tell me if I had a boogie hanging out my nose. My Lambaids were all that and a bag of chips.

The ladies chose their own black dresses, helped throw me a lovely shower, and acted as my ridiculously fun posse for the entirety of our wedding weekend. If I had any expectations, they certainly exceeded them and set the bar quite high for me as I attempt to be co-MOH for Lambaid of Honor E. (Check out this hilarious e-card from Rattlebox.com she sent to me to ask if I would be in her wedding party!) Each of the Lambaids brought a little something different to the wedding table.

I already posted a little about E, as she was crucial to my sanity. E ironed my veil, had answers for everything, held my dress when I peed, delivered a perfectly sentimental speech, held my hand when I had a momentary hyperventilation, and made sure everyone knew what to do. I can’t wait to return the favor!

A… which always seems weird to type, because I call her by her last name, brought class (so Jackie-O!), sarcasm, orders for me to nap, a willingness to eat stacks of pancakes with me, the stamina to walk 1.5 miles to get said pancakes, and all around fun. We’re planning some devilishly fun girl time in the Big Apple over the summer - woohoo!

S was the first person to ask me, “Ummm… you talk a lot about Mr. L, do you think you like him?” I probably said, “No.” But we all know the first stage is denial. At least for those of use going the whole Pride and Prejudice love route. S and her husband just crack me up. They’re like my life mentors - which makes sense since S was a pscyh major and her husband is in the ministry. It’s a dynamic duo of sound counsel with a hint of humor and shenanigans!

From office mates to friends, L has been a constant in my life since I called her in a panic not knowing how to get to my first day on the job. We traversed the Pacific ocean (ask her sometime how much paddling I was doing) and pulled through master’s programs together. L made sure I was hydrated, helped me pick out my shoes, and debriefed with me nearly every day. Instant messenger fun on all levels!

My SIL J! We’ve been getting to know each other better as we both have been moving all across the country. Since neither of us grew up with sisters, it’s that much more meaningful to us to have a sister now. J treated me to a divine mani/pedi and overflowed the dance floor when she led everyone in the Cha-cha slide!

I think the most fun aspect of the weekend was having all of my ladies hanging out together. They even wanted to arrange for a Lambaid Reunion weekend next year!

Did you think your bridesmaids will hit it off on your wedding weekend?

Most of mine are friends, but they all know each other (since me asking them). I think they’ll have a great time at the wedding!

Yours look like they had a blast together!

It’s great to know all your friends from all over came together so well for you. I have maids from all aspects of my life, so this makes me feel better about everyone coming together for my wedding too!

Love the photos and it sounds like it was a great group!

I’ve only been a BM once, but we all got along really well even though we didn’t know each other until the wedding planning. We still keep in touch, and the flower girl (daughter of another BM) still looks on it as a treat whenever she sees me, which is just awesome. My “job,” as requested by the bride, was to keep her sane. Funny, that’s been my role at two weddings now. lol Somehow I keep people calm?

My BMs know who they are and how to get in touch with each other, and from what I’ve heard have started some preliminary hi-how-are-you emails back and forth. They’re scattered across the country, though, so they won’t meet until the wedding.

Congrats! My bridesmaids are a combination of people in my life. 1 is my sister, 2 are my cousins and 2 are my best friends, 1 man who is my best friend as well and 2 are my FI nieces. They all know of each other and my FI nieces know the rest of my bridesmaids and man of honor because we were able to have our engagement party and they were able to meet. I also love the pomanders…I was thinking about them for the flower girls but my flower girls (my nieces) told me that they have to throw flowers so I would love to do this for my BM.

What a pretty wedding party! I love the idea of buying separate black dresses…mine are all wearing different styles too. I have 7 of them that I am pretty sure will love each other!
For the most part (I’ve been a bridesmaid 6 times!), the wedding parties I’ve been in (2 really come to mind) have gotten along so well with each other that we’re all facebook friends now. We also obviously have the bride in common, so it’s so fun to see what they’re doing or hear it from her. I feel like I’ve gained more friends by being co-bridesmaids with them, which is the most any bride can ask!

I love your recaps! This one is so sweet and special.

I wish my girls get along as well as yours do. My two best friends have disliked each other since high school. I hope they pull it together for me. They can go back to not liking each other after the wedding.

Such a sweet post. :) My bridesmaids don’t know each other, but two met this weekend during dress-measuring. It was awkward and exciting.

These are great photos!

Do I think they’ll get along? Of course! 2 of the 3 bridesmaids I have are my lifelong best friends (one is my sis and the other is S, my friend since we were about 2). They met my other bridesmaid, T, last week at my grandma’s funeral, but they already love her and have had a bit of contact via email. It’s a lovefest here! They are all loving and supportive and I heart them!
