About Mrs. Lace

They’re Here…

February 20th, 2010 @ 11:30 am by Mrs. Lace

What’s here, you may ask? After many meetings, a 43 thread email and painstaking research, our invitations have arrived.

Now, if you know me well, you’d think that I’d want to design and handcraft all of my invitations. But between a full time job, family and friends and a wedding for 250 guests, I realized I just wouldn’t be able to sanely make all of the invitations the way I’d want to AND still give fully to everything and everyone else in my life (although being trapped in a room for weeks with my X-Acto and self-healing cutting mat doesn’t sound all that bad).

As Mr. Lace and I began thinking about invitations, we knew two things: 1. We didn’t want to break the bank on invitations since we already broke it on the catering and venue and 2. We wanted to be as earth-friendly as possible.

So we went on our way looking for something different and fun.

We decided on a one card invite. The front side would be our story (the fun, condensed, quirky version) and the back would be all the wedding details including our yet-to-be-built website. My maid of honor’s friend is a graphic designer that’s thinking of getting into the wedding stationery business and agreed to design our invitations if we decided to do something a bit offbeat. So, offbeat it was!

We drafted, revised and repeated until we had it the way we liked. Our graphic designer was an angel, making numerous revisions for us. While he sent them off to get printed, Mr. Lace and I began searching for envelope options. Here they are:

They’re Here… : wedding stationery 4) — Midnight Black

They’re Here… : wedding stationery 4) — Grocery Bag

They’re Here… : wedding stationery 87915 6 x 9 Clasp Envelopes — Midnight Black

(source)

We loved the black clasp envelope because it was fun and different, but it was too big for our 5×7 invitations. It would’ve been fine, but I didn’t want our invite to be flopping around in the envelope. Between the first two A7 envelopes, we went with the black.

Our inspiration for the black envelopes? Chalkboards. We plan to use chalkboards at our wedding since I’m a teacher, so I thought the envelope could mirror that thought.

Coming up… addressing the envelope, address stamp and the unveiling of the invites!

I can’t wait to see the design! The clasp envelope woulda been really cool, but I agree it wouldn’t have been desirable to have the invite moving around in there.

Dang, lady, those envelopes are fiiinnnneee. :) I love a good black envelope.

P.S. Are you using white ink for them? If so, I’d love some good white ink recs, as none that I’ve tried have been worth a dang. I am 4 seconds from just hand-painting with white gouache.
