Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. Two Uses on Your Wedding Day

February 20th, 2010 @ 3:45 pm by Mrs. Hot Wings

If you’ve ever thought about wedding goods that can be used twice (you know, killing 2 birds with one stone), this one’s for you.

A wedding cake/dress!

Two Uses on Your Wedding Day : wedding cake humor wedding dress 14365 1

My only question is: how does one dance in this getup?

Following this same logic, I considered what I might be able make dual-use of. Flowers! I will use them at both our ceremony and the reception. Attendant bouquets will be held for pictures and during the ceremony and then used to dress up our cake table at the reception.

What are you making dual-use of for your wedding?

I just saw that same thing on http://wedinator.com. I love that site. I’d like to know how she made it up the aisle.

Agh! That reminds me of that creepy Tom Petty video from the 80s for “Don’t Come Around Here No More”!!

Yup. DEF dual use of bouquets.
Also favors will double as escort cards.
Ceremony decorations will double to decorate the outdoor terrace during reception. Which will also be used in our home afterward.

That just confuses me. Like…would you really want to eat cake that had touched that woman’s legs? Ew!

I tease my FH husband all the time saying the only reason I’m having a wedding is for the cake. I’d be down to wear a giant cake if I could!

We’re planning on using the bouquets to decorate the head table (it’s gonna be a loooong table). Bouquets + Centerpieces!

Right now the plan is for potted orchid centerpieces, which can be given to the moms and the bridal party. Centerpieces + Gifts!

We’re also having guests sign a large photo matt instead of a guestbook. We’re taking a large group photo of all the wedding guests and this picture will be added to the matt and displayed in our living room. An engagement photo will be displayed with the matt at the wedding so guests can visualize the end result. Guestbook + Home decor!

We are also considering renting a vacation home for the bridal party that will double as the getting-ready house (because it looks fabulous in photos). Housing + Photo studio!

I’m probably going to replace my worn out leather ivory sandals with a brand new pair. I wear these nearly every day in the summers, so I know I’ll get plenty of use out of them. Wedding + Everyday shoes!

Other double-uses we considered along the way (some are quite loony):
Purchasing china at garage/estate sales instead of renting so that they can be used or given to friends after the wedding

Thank you notes written on untreated paper with seeds embedded…so that guests can “plant” the paper afterwards

At one point I thought it would be more fun to buy my father a giant BBQ smoker instead of paying a caterer (he is easily the best cook any of my family/friends know of)

Sorry the post was so long! I’m really curious to see what other brides are using twice.

I’m also doing the bouquet double-duty with the attendants and then the cake table! I was so glad that someone suggested it to me. Makes all those costs just a little more bearable.

The first time I saw this I rolled over laughing.

Now you have my wheels turning on any dual use items from my wedding…I’ll have to get back to you.

Cool! Yet gross…
I am getting those reusable grocery bags in our wedding colors (purples) to use as out of town bags (instead of paper bags) so people can reuse them for, well, groceries! I’m just using tissue paper for filler since I won’t be filling it up with all food/other OOT stuff…I guess slightly defeating my attempt to be slightly green. Oh well.
My wedding shoes technically can be dyed. But they’re SO pretty that I don’t know if I will do it. I can’t. But I should.
Otherwise I’m a sucky double-duty bride…

The only thing I can think of at the moment is our ceremony and reception location…that is, we’re dual-using that space…for the ceremony and the reception. :)
