About Mrs. Paisley

I used my Craigslist Cricut purchase ($100 for a perfectly good Cricut Create with a cartridge, yeay-er!) to cut out little labels to decorate my apothecary jars for the candy buffet:

I Want Candy! (Or, How to Style a Candy Buffet) : wedding decor favors 110 1

The shape of the labels mimic the shape of our invitations:

Our candy labels DEFINITELY match the favor boxes I made:

I Want Candy! (Or, How to Style a Candy Buffet) : wedding decor favors 37 3

But I think it’ll turn out OK despite the matchy-matchyness. Here’s an inspiration board I made using a cream, blue, pink and yellow color palette:

I Want Candy! (Or, How to Style a Candy Buffet) : wedding decor favors 47 4

So, that’s basically what I’m goin’ for. I may even throw some chocolate (non-white) into the real thing. I’m not ‘fraid. I don’t NEED to do all pastels. We shall see once I order the candy! For the macaroons, I’m either going to DIY, or bite the bullet and pay $3 per macaroon at Bouchon Bakery:

I’m only going to have about 15 on a plate, so it wouldn’t be totally cost-prohibitive, depending on how well I do managing my budget toward the end of wedding-countdown-2010. ;)

Finding inspiration for a candy spread has been one of the more challenging, yet fun, parts of wedding planning. What inspiration have you come across to help create a gorgeous and cohesive candy buffet color palette?

Mmm.. Bouchon makes the most amazing macarons. It might be worth the splurge (and the lack of headache!) to go the non-DIY route.

Yum.

Mmm! I love candy buffets. :) Have you looked at Amy Atlas’ stuff? Her candy buffet spreads are ridiculous!

Oh dear! You have to have macarons! I’ve been looking at recipes all over the internet and have tried a couple of them. They aren’t that hard…..promise! And they actually keep quite well!

I would buy the macarons. I tried to make them and they turned out terrible. Plus almond flour is really really expensive. I spent $26 on ingredients for my first attempt at macarons and they didn’t taste right at all and looked really bad. I’d just buy them and save yourself time!

I’d probably pick popular flavors over color cohesiveness… and chocolate is AWESOME. :)

Our colors are cream and dak brown - we have decided to go against the grain of coordinating and go for a bright, this-takes-me-back-to-my-childhood bufet. Dum Dums, Blow Pops, licorice, sweet tarts, giant lollipops. :)

I absolutely love Amy Atlas’ blog too! One of my faves and I go to all the time to see how she just designs the tables.

Think I’ll steal a little style a-la-Amy for my favor table! Not a candy buffet, but will be giving away cupcakes and a cute trinket and I want the table lookin’ good.

Those macaroons look delicious! We thought about doing a candy buffet, but the idea of coordinating it made my head spin - you’ve done great, so I cannot wait to see how it turns out!

And LOVE that you used your Cricut!

As a planner, I’m finding that the candy buffet is the new hot trend! Thanks so much for the tips.

I have used candy from ACandyStore.com when planning several events. They have great discounts for their Facebook/Twitter followers. And they offer flat rate shipping for $9.95! Amazing.

Good luck everybody!

I love that color palette, and I think some brown chocolate would keep it from being too “pretty,” ya know?

@Gilneas, yum! I’m glad to hear your recommendation, I haven’t yet tried Bouchon. I feel lucky they’re (sorta) close by to my grandma’s.
@Miss Scissors, thanks for pointing me to her website, I’d run across Altas’ site before, but had forgotten about it! So, thank you! This will definitely help inspire me!
@Amariem, good tip, thank you! I could, unfortunately, with my beginner-baking-skills, see myself spending a lot on ingredients and not having it work out.
@Miss Spaniel, yeah…I gotta have some chocolate. Some fudge, some caramel. I’ll use FI’s favorite, salt water taffy, to fulfill my pastel quota.
@Mrs. Mouse, I agree. I like the natural-colored stuff in the apothecary jar at bottom left in my inspiration board. I’m gonna go for that sort of thing, plus chocolate and pastels.

I am planning on doing a candy bar and much like Mattel it will be a mix of colors as opposed to matching the candy with our color theme. I do plan to tie a color coordinated ribbon around each glass container though to the extent the style allows and to also add some other coordinating color elements. Are people using signs–such as “love is sweet?” etc?
