Mrs. Guinea Pig's Picture
Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!

Where Guinea Pigs Go to Relax

February 22nd, 2010 @ 10:54 am by Mrs. Guinea Pig

Much like many of you these days I’m sure, I have on approximately 25 layers all the time and feel like I haven’t seen the sun in years (stupid [cute] groundhog and 6 more weeks of winter). As Miss Cheeseburger mentioned and Miss Pencils alluded to, we in the mid-Atlantic area recently got hit with “snowpocalypse” - which was fun for the first two snow-days, but the gray, salty, slushy days that have followed have felt a leeetle bit soul-crushing. So I decided, why think about this:

(shoveling out the snow that accumulated in ONE night outside our front door after the first blizzard)

When I can think about this!:

Ahhhh… I can feel the sunburn already. :D

Mr. Guinea Pig and I are after the same thing most folks want on their honeymoon: relaxation, beaches, fun, and (a little bit of) sun!

So I’ve been consoling myself lately with warm happy thoughts of a relaxing week of marveling at being newlyweds in Amelia Island, Florida! We’ll be staying at the Fairbanks House Bed & Breakfast, and with an amazing 100% recommended ranking on Trip Advisor, I can’t wait to kick back and relax there with Mr. Guinea Pig.

As I sort of mentioned above, Mr. Guinea Pig and I burn in the sun like nobody’s business. So while we’re looking forward to spending some time by the pool and on the beach, I’m also excited about exploring the historic district, hopefully spotting some sea turtles, going kayaking, taking a day trip to St. Augustine, and riding horses on the beach (Mr. GP is not so excited about that one)! And then at the end of the day, we can sit on the porch while the sun sets:

Or relax in the jacuzzi tub:

I. can’t. wait. I’m glad we’re going somewhere that has a beach for us to relax on, but not JUST a beach, because I’m not sure I can handle 6 straight days in the sun. Amelia Island seemed like the perfect match. Plus, in May, the average high is 83. Sign me up!

What’s getting you through the winter months? Where are you going for your honeymoon? Anyone else looking forward to doing things other than sit on the beach?

All that snow fell in one night?! OMG! I have lived in Colorado for six years and never seen that much—I’m not up in the mountains but pretty darn close! Your honeymoon location looks perfect and beautiful :)

The Fairbanks House is amazing!! We stayed there several years ago and have been wanting to go back ever since. You picked the best bed & breakfast in the area! I highly suggest the Beech Street Grill and wandering through all of the cute shops they have!

When you go to St. Augustine Beach, I highly recommend Cafe Eleven. It was my favorite place for lunch. They have a great beer selection and some nights they have shows if you are interested.

I live on Amelia Island and it will be a wonderful place for a honeymoon. My husband is the owner of the Green Turtle Tavern (S 3rd St)so be sure and stop by for a pint. Also, don’t miss 29 South (also on S 3rd Street) for dinner or brunch. It’s fabulous!

Looks great!! Man, your snow looks like our snow. Except I know your snow isn’t exactly NORMAL for your area!! We’re just kind of.. used to (beat down by?) that kind of thing. hehe

Would you be able to tell me a ballpark of how much your trip is and how long? It sounds like a great idea if you don’t mind me copying!
