For the Love of Kate

February 23rd, 2010 @ 12:32 pm by Mrs. Argyle

No, this post is not about my shoes (I’m on a shoe-posting hiatus for obvious reasons). And, it’s not about the lovely Argyle BM Kate, although, I do love her!

This post is about these lovely dishes, err… I mean china.

Mr. Argyle and I are not planning on registering for formal china. But, I cannot help myself because I love this china.

It comes in platinum too…

…but I love the green. Even Mr. Argyle loves the green. It’s just fun and vibrant and definitely different than your traditional china. Plus, it would look so good on display!

But, as much as it would be fun to register for china, it is just not practical for our lifestyle. We love to entertain, and would prefer to own two or three sets of everyday dishes/china.

Are you registering for china or opting for a set or two of everyday dishes?

Love this china too! It was one of the patterns I was considering. So yes, I am registering for china! It was important to me to have a traditional set of china for holidays and important family gatherings. For everyday, I registered for a Martha Stewart set that looks a lot like the green version of this Kate Spade set.

We’re registering for 4 place settings of fun china. Ours is a Martha Stewart and definitely a green. We have 2 sets of every day chine and a set of hand me down china service for 12 but I am pretty much setting myself up to collect china as I age. I figure if I get service for 4 of whatever I like then we can at least pull it out when we have one other couple over. As the collection grows we can play with mix and match.

Love it! Kate Spade has some really cute china.

Although I would love to register for a china set, I’m sure FI and I will choose to be more practial for our needs and go with an everyday set and work towards getting a more formal set later.

I considered this pattern as well! We decided to register for china. In our current day-to-day lifestyle, it feels a little ridiculous because we do not entertain formally. However, we look forward to hosting family for holidays in the future, and know that we’d like to have china for that. I inherited a few pieces from my great-grandmother, but not enough for our whole family. After much discussion, we opted to register for this with green and brown accent plates: http://slimages.macys.com/is/image/MCY/products/7/optimized/268787_fpx.tif?wid=300&fmt=jpeg&qlt=100

I love it! I’ll probably use it just for fun if somebody gives this to us for our wedding!

Oh that’s really pretty! We aren’t registering for china either. We have some, it was given to me just last month by my Grandpa. While he was serving in the Korean War he got to take break for a while up in Japan. While there he sent home lots of stuff and some of that was an entire set of china. My mom didn’t even know this china existed! I love it very much and hope one day we get to use it. We do hope to register for a completely new set of everyday dinnerware since ours is a combination of our sets when we moved into together a year ago.

I am set to inherit at least one set of fine china so we aren’t registering for any. That pattern is awfully nice tho!

Have you been to Kerry Cottage on Big Bend? The print on that china reminds me of some stuff my mom got there. Kate’s is probably less explicitly Irish though (I think they had shamrocks instead of leaves).
We haven’t even gotten to registering yet. It terrifies me :-/

This is what we registered for! I love pretty plates and I really hope we get these. It may not be super practical now, but I love entertaining and I know we will use it.

We’re registering for every day, basic dishes, but not at ALL for china. As the only girl on both sides of the family, I’m set to get 4 sets from my side alone, not to mention Mr. KM’s family where there are no girls. We’ll have a whoooooole lot of china!

i love this china too…. it was my front-runner but was vetoed by the fiance and I thought maybe it could look funny with food on it… but i am still in love with the teacups. We ended up registering for Dentelle by monique lhullier for royal doulton. I love to have friends over for dinner/entertain and so I hope I’ll be using it a lot!

We’re only doing casual dishes since we aren’t really formal dinner types. However, I did spy these BEAUTIFUL Kate Spade vases for close to $200 a piece that I LOVE. Do I need $200 vases with polka dots? :(

@LittleWit: That is such a great idea. I love the look of mismatched china!

@farmersdaughter: That’s a great reason to register for it!

@Curlysue: That’s so awesome - your china has some history!

@lergx6: We just registered this weekend and it was a ton of fun (the Mr. enjoyed it too!).

@KMSull: That’s a lot of china to inherit!

Pretty!!! My FI’s mom is giving us some gorgeous china that she never uses. I probably wouldn’t have registered for it, but I am pretty excited about getting some!!!

We registered for a Mikasa set specifically Parchment. We got all but a few pieces for which we used Wedding cash to obtain. It’s not a terribly pricey set, epecially with Macy’s crazy sales. I liked a lot of Lennox but it was too costly and I knew I couldn’t afford to finish it myself. We don’t entertain formally now, but we will in the future. I do use the good stuff for nice dinners for myself and my husband. We also got an everyday set of Oneida whiteware.

@amanda.lynn: I know what you mean - FMIL Argyle has china, but she never uses it, and I don’t really want it. Soo…I guess if we needed it, it’s there?

@kayakgirl73: That’s great! We’ll entertain a lot, but just not big formal events, and I love to mix and match my dishes!

we entertain regularly, but at this point our casual china set does the job. formal china is lovely, but if i find that one day down the road i’m doing fancy entertaining, i’ll think about getting it at that point. but the ones you posted are certainly beautiful!

We registered for Kate Spade china! We actually mixed and matched some of her more simple patterns in the silver platinum color, and we love them. We honestly don’t entertain much now, but that has a lot to do with the fact that we live in a small city apartment, but we plan on moving to the ‘burbs in a few years, and plan on hosting a lot of dinner parties and holidays, so it was worth it for us :)
