About Mrs. Hot Dog

Got It on Lock Down.

February 23rd, 2010 @ 3:32 pm by Mrs. Hot Dog

I have always been a long hair kinda’ girl, except for when I was in 4th grade and my mom let me decide how I wanted my hair cut, for the first time. I whacked it. I mean SHORT. And I hated it. I looked just like my twin brother. Eeww.

So, since then, my hair has been to my shoulders or longer. I was blessed with hair that will do just about anything and, when left to its own devices, does wonderful little waves with not a frizz in sight. So I’ve never had to worry about the humidity messin’ up my ’do. In fact, my hair has really been my pride and joy; the one constant thing that I love about myself when I look in the mirror. So when I decided to “whack” it again last spring, everyone was a little shocked. This love affair with my hair was no secret.

I’ve had my hair short since then. Nothing TOO extreme. Right at my chin, and a little longer when I’m too busy for a trim. So as soon as I started thinking about our wedding day, I started looking into short hairstyles. I was happily trolling through wedding hairstyles, when I came up with this beauty:

Got It on Lock Down. : wedding hair Lowchignon lowchignon

Source

The low chignon. I’ve always been about simple, timeless, and versatile style. This hairstyle is all that and more! Think loose bun with ringlets and an ivory silk flower. Or, a sleek bob with a crystal hair comb! It looks great with a traditional OR a birdcage veil! The options really are endless.

So as I was sitting there imagining my gorgeous loose chignon on my wedding day, I reached up to pat my hair and came back to reality; my hair would barely go up halfway, let alone into anything even resembling a ponytail! So now I’m stuck with what to do - grow it out to accommodate my dream style, or keep searching for a suitable shorty. I briefly thought about getting extensions on the big day, but quickly decided that wasn’t an option. I want to look like a prettier version of myself, but not DRASTICALLY different.

I have to address this issue now since it will most likely take that long for it to be long and healthy again. And I need to commit to it! The problem is that when I start to grow it out, Iget so tired of it being in that “awkward” phase, so I just chop it. So, what is a girl to do?

Are you a short haired girl? Did you decide to grow your hair out for your wedding? Why or why not?

I decided to go for the grow, and while I think it will be worth it on the big day, I haev gotten pretty close to chopping it a couple of times in the process!

I’m actually really looking forward to the few days we have between the wedding and the honeymoon…I think I am going to set up an appointment to chop it before I go!

Well, I was a medium/long haired girl until October…went to get a cut just 2 inches and the stylist cut it to my chin in the front and boy short in the back! Apparently its the trendy thing to have, but I HATE it I think it looks awful. My hair has grown out a good amount since then but definitely nowhere close to how long it was before…I think Im going to get some hair extensions. Luckily I still have until August, but its growing very slowly!!

Ugh! I decided to grow my hair out for the wedding and I hate it. I always loved short hair, always thought it suited me better, and was way easier to style. I grew it out, because I was always the grass is greener type of gal w/ hair.

Hair is black I want blond.
Hair is short I want long.
Hair is curly I want straight.

So now I am 3 wks away from my wedding and ready to chop it all off. I am going to my hair consult this sunday, and will see if I can get trimmed or something.

Ugh long hair!

Regular trims help prevent the awkward grow-out part. I’ve been growing mine out for a little over a year now and trim it every 8 weeks; I managed about 5 inches of healthy length in that time. Good luck!

I have naturally curly hair, hence the username here(!), and my hair doesn’t like to grow longer than about an inch past my shoulders. It drives me crazy sometimes when I want to do my hair up. I love a beautiful chignon and it’s just not gonna be in the cards for me—unless I want a very tiny bun and I don’t. So right now I’m stuck too and can’t find any inspiration.

If you decided to grow it out, do you think you it would be long enough by the wedding date? I say grow it out and if you make it you make it. Meanwhile, still look for shorty hairstyles :)

I’m in the middle of that awkward grow-out phase, but my hair trial convinced me that all the pain, agony and ponytail holders are worth it.

I say try a combination of growing it out and extensions. Grow it so it can be pulled/pinned back, but use extensions to form the bulk of the chignon. It’s the best of both worlds, and won’t require you to stress out over how long your hair is/is not getting between now and the wedding.

I was a short hair girl and have been growing my hair since about last summer(with trims of course). My suggestion for Clarebee is prenatal vitamins. I know it sounds strange..but its worked really well for me. I’ve always had a hard time growing out my hair..and I feel this has really helped. My hair is stronger and just overall healthy with this. I’ve had a number of people advise me to use them…and so far so good.

I’m growing my hair out as well and I know for sure i’m going to chop it right after the wedding! I would continue to look for short hairstyles and see if anything catches your eye. If you don’t find anything like the low chignon I would stick to growing it out. :)

You should grow it out for now, and if you aren’t happy with it, there will still be time to chop it off before the wedding. (It’s always better to put off a decision, right?)

I’m in the mid stage where my hair isn’t long nor short. I have been growing it out for a year and I’m ready to chop it off.

I’m a short hair girl but promised the mister I’ll grow it out since he has never seen me with long hair.

I’ve always been a long hair girl, but a few months before my fiance proposed I had chopped my hair into a short inverted bob. So, after the engagement I furiously decided I needed to grow my hair, because as Mrs. Champagne said…”I’m a hopeless romantic and there’s something about long flowy curls that I can’t help but love.” That was a little over 2 years ago. So, my hair is pretty long now, but I am so sick of it. I cannot wait for the wedding in less than 3 weeks so I can chop it off afterwards. :)

I had always had long hair, but hacked it off when my FI was starting chemo last summer. I tried to grow it out a little, but realized with a short engagement I would never get it long enough to do anything fun with, so snip snip!
Short and sassy it is :-)
I was thrilled to see another short haired bride getting her hair done for her wedding last time I was in for a cut, and that made me feel better.

I think you’d look gorgeous with a really pretty headband and your short hair - chic, but pretty :)

I’ve got short hair - and pretty much always have so I haven’t been growing mine out for our wedding. I can get the sides up and the length is to my shoulders so the hair stylist should still have plenty of options. Short is sassy!!!

I’ve gone back and forth for the last few years….basically, I spontaneously will chop it off, then grow it out, then chop it again. Right now, its long and I’m dying to chop, but I know if I hold out just a few more months, my wedding day hairstyle will be much easier. So long it is, for now….but who’s going to be doing the post-wedding chop? THIS girl.
