The mister and I knew we wanted to live in the heart of Chicago after we got married, so we decided to start looking around. On our first and only day of apartment-hunting, we came across THE perfect condo. Mr. Parfait made an offer. They accepted; he signed the papers; we started packing.
“Packing?!” you say? Yep, we decided to move in right away—it was way too beautiful and exciting to ignore until April. It was a two-week process from choosing the place to moving in. It’s been a whirlwind, and it’s not over yet!
Wanna see our new place? This is one of my favorite parts:

As mentioned in the title, moving was an adventure. The two of us took turns in ambulances and emergency rooms for injuries that were out of our control. Don’t worry—we’re doing just fine! Here’s the short version:
While moving our belongings from the moving truck to rolling carts, Mr. Parfait stooped down to steady a piece of furniture. Four wooden bed frame pieces were stacked on boxes on the rolling cart next to him. [See where this is going?] Someone else moved the cart, which caused the side of my bed frame to fall… directly onto Mr. Parfait’s head. He needed five staples to close the wound. He’s doing well and recovering like a hero; I’m an emotional mess every time I see the staples.
Of course, when we went shopping for home supplies, I had to stand under a falling product and get myself a matching head injury. I thought I could stick a band-aid on it and be on my merry way, until I started blacking out.
“Blunt head injury and face laceration,” it says on my ER forms.
Just what I need seven weeks before my wedding! But honestly, I’m thankful it’s not seven days. And they put some skin glue on there that acts as a concealer—the jagged red lines that once screamed “Bar Fight!” look more like a pink blob now. ![]()

Another cell phone pic—my real camera pooped out on me.
My brother joked that we’re a match made in accident-prone heaven, and right now, we look the part. My dad advised us to slow down. We have a huge To Do list for our home and another for the wedding. Both are taking a back seat while we recover and enjoy the first days in our new place.
How much did your first home plans overlap with your wedding plans? Did moving turn into an adventure for you, too?
