Mrs. Champagne, DC/Vail/Colorado Age and Occupation: 26, Eye Doctor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Attorney Engagement Date: March 13, 2006 Wedding Date: February 2009 Blogging Since: July 30, 2008 Venue: Small church ceremony with mountain-view log cabin reception About Me: I'm a small town mountain girl with a city heart. Found my way to the east coast, and Mr. Champagne kept me here so we're planning a wedding from afar in my hometown Vail, Colorado. I'm secretly obsessed with reality TV, Wii games where I can shoot a gun, country music, and Caesar: Dog Whisperer. I also spend time pretending to golf, backseat driving, having one way conversations with our MinPin Maxwell, loving champagne, and wedding perfecting… I mean, planning. I use way too many repeated symbols and letters when I write, and I'll love Mr. Champagne endlessly…

Portraits! (The Non-Snowy Version)

February 23rd, 2010 @ 4:01 pm by Mrs. Champagne

Portraits! (The Non-Snowy Version) : wedding photography Ajp 200 I know what you’re thinking… wait a second Champagne, wasn’t your wedding in the snowy mountains of Colorado? It was, indeed but I thought a bridal session without snow might be fun! Plus, I figured I’d get back into my recaps with a series of two different portrait sessions—our original day-after photo session with my cousin (and bridesmaid) Marybeth of Design MB Fotographie, and my second session with DC area photographer Abby Jiu.

This summer, I got together with a fabulous group of women to create photos of what might be the last time I fit squeeze myself into my wedding dress. So this photo shoot was a group effort and I couldn’t have asked for a better team. Hair: Sommer Seneca (Reston, VA) Makeup: Laura Batemen Flowers: Fleurish Events and of course Photography: Abby Jiu

After getting ready at Abby’s place, we drove to a private silent retreat in Maryland where Abby had scouted out a gorgeous field for our photos.

The weather was perfect, and I couldn’t help but think of how different our wedding was when compared to this rural summer setting.

I obviously didn’t get married in the DC area, but if I had I would’ve used make-up artist Laura Bateman in a heartbeat. Laura was so professional and all I had to do was explain the way I wanted to look and she got it! Imagine that after my failed trials for my own wedding!

The grounds on this property was gorgeous, and around every corner was another great photo.

My hair was actually very similar to my wedding day style. I’m a hopeless romantic and there’s something about long flowy curls that I can’t help but love. I can see why local brides love having Sommer around to do bridal hair—she kept me laughing the entire time!

Abby arranged for local DC area event planner Carrie Moe from Fleurish Events to provide a few different flower bouquets and I was BLOWN AWAY at how beautiful they both were! The first bouquet was something seriously out of a bridal magazine and if I had chosen a fall wedding, this would be my choice—I call it the “Figs and Feathers Bouquet”!

Portraits! (The Non-Snowy Version) : wedding photography Ajp 227

Portraits! (The Non-Snowy Version) : wedding photography Ajp 258 Very earthy inspired and very unique—it even included real figs!

The second bouquet was equally as gorgeous and completely different! More of a spring look, this bouquet included real herbs and smelled delicious!

I had such a fun time with Abby, and she kept me laughing and calm—even when my wobbly bits seemed to want to slip out of my dress.

So for any of you winter brides (or summer brides, for that matter) who have a very distinct wedding season, you may want to consider a bridal session in completely different weather! It’s fun and you’ll see your wedding dress in an entirely different light!

Up next, I’ll share the photos of our day-after photo session with my cousin Marybeth—expect snow, more snow and lots of kisses!

You look so beautiful and happy in those photos. I’m so glad you had such a wonderful time! I remember reading how disappointed you were with your day of photographer and that was so sad for me to see a bride not happy with her wedding day photos. Very cool idea to have photos taken at a different time of year :)

I love that you did this! I plan to have a photo shoot this coming summer……a year after we got married. I am not 100% happy with my wedding photos, specifically pictures of my dress. So I am going to have more pictures taken by another photographer. It’s so great to see someone else putting on their dress and taking more pictures.
The pictures turned out GREAT!
