Floral Forum - Part 2

February 25th, 2010 @ 2:01 pm by Mrs. Sewing

Me: “Dude, wait. Why are the calla lilies so expensive? Can’t we just go with anthuriums?”
Sewing-Mom: “I don’t really like anthuriums.”
Mr. Sew-Aunt: “Me either”
Me: “But we can get them in white. How much different can the be from a calla lily?!”
*Consultant lays some out on the table*

Floral Forum - Part 2 : wedding flowers Compare

Me: “Oh. I guess they are different. But I still want the anthuriums.”

*Collective sigh*

Well, we met with our florist. Between Mr. Sewing, his aunt, and my mom, there were quite a few opinions to be had by all.

First, the bouquet -

Consultant: “What did you have in mind?”

Me: “I don’t know. Tropical. Nothing that looks too much like a ball. Nothing round.”

*Blank stares*

Wisely, she had me go through a ton of idea books until we settled on something I liked.

One Sewing-bouquet. For Sewing-Sis, we’ll take out the expensive orchids and replace the white roses with red ones.

Then Mr. Sewing decided to throw me off my planning-ball.

Mr. Sew: “We’ll need some boutonnieres too.”

Say what?!

Me: “I thought you wanted a pocket square instead. You said flowers were girly.”

Mr. Sew: “I changed my mind.”

I think maybe someone was having flower envy, after seeing us put together my expensive bouquet? Whatever. His aunt decided to appease the future groom by ordering some white roses and baby’s breath to make him his own little flower arrangement. He’s happy now, don’t worry.

Finally, we got around to centerpieces. Remember how much I wanted ferns? Well, I didn’t let up, even through the rolling eyes. Here’s a prototype:

I’m naming it my “tropics-in-a-box”.

I don’t remember everything that’s in it, but it involved lots of small orchids and a ton of tropical leaves like Ti and Monstera.

Floral Forum - Part 2 : wedding flowers Plants

An assortment of these, please!

Very rain-foresty. Almost prehistoric (just missing some tree-stars). And of course I persuaded our little party to replace some of the Ti leaves with ferns. Score!

Once that was all settled, and we had all balked at the estimate for a while, Mr. Sewing handed over the deposit.

Floral Forum - Part 2 : wedding flowers Check

Flowers? CHECK!

What’s in your bouquet? And how does your FI feel about boutonnieres?

My bouquet is bright pink and light pink Gerbera Daisies and pink Phlox.

FI had no problem wearing a boutonniere as long as he didn’t have to have bright pink so we settled for the guys wearing light pink and my bridesmaids carrying bright pink and I’ll have both in my bouquet.

I heart your posts - - every single one makes me laugh out loud smile and feel giddy….FH and I don’t know a thing or two about flowers. FH knows about plants but not flowers, we have given our florist the reigns to do whatever she wants….

We were originally going to do our own flowers, and it would have been just lavender roses…now we are using a florist and I am so excited to have gotten EVERY flower I wanted in it! White anemones (yum!), yellow ranunculus, lavender roses, and cream alstromeria! Plus it will have really cool metal wire spirals- I cant WAIT to see it!

Flowers has been the one thing that my FI just not will not get into! Even though I know he has tried. He’s been pretty adamant on getting pocket squares instead.

My fiance doesn’t really like cut flowers very much. I’m still having a bouquet and there will still be a bounty of floral centerpieces and corsages. However, I found these really cheap and lovely pinecone bouts on Etsy that he loves! We’ll be ordering them with blue ribbon for our winter wedding.

Our bridesmaids will have wrist corsages and will be carrying lanterns for our low-lit, evening ceremony.

My bouquet is going to be pink and orange dahlias, garden roses, and ranunculus. Fiance is okay with the bout- not head over heels but not totally against it. I wanted to use fiddlehead ferns in the bouts to make it quirky and more “manly” but he hated it!

I still have a good seven months till the wedding, and I haven’t thought much past the colors, orange, cream, maybe yellow? And, I want it to be pretty loose and organic looking. I have definitely contemplated the “do-it-yourself” route, because our budget is not “orchid friendly”. I’m pretty much putting off the flowers to the last minute, way to go procrastinators!

It’s going to be beautiful! I was very, very happy not to have anyone else’s opinions when I met with my florist, though. ;) It pays to do most of your planning solo!

My flowers are bright pink gerbera daisies and pink hydrangeas… a little pop of green with verbenas and hypericum berries. I’m very excited to see what my florists create!

I love stefanotis! So neat looking. I think your bouquet is going to be awesome.

My FI is also claiming that he doesn’t want a bout. But I’ve already put in the flower order so he can’t change his mind now.

Your bouquets and centerpieces are going to be absolutely beautiful!! I think my FI is going to be indifferent about the who boutonniere thing. I am pretty sure I want flower boutonnieres so I’m sure he will be fine with it. Though, we are on a very tight budget and I am considering going with silk flowers and letting my mom arrange them… she is so crafty and tasteful, I trust her with everything.
