What to Carry?

February 25th, 2010 @ 9:36 am by Mrs. Argyle

I thought I wanted my bridesmaids to carry small bouquets. That is, until I saw this:

I have seen the idea before, but this time it really struck me. I think it would be a fun and modern twist on the original bouquet to instead have the girls carry clutches in different patterns of reds and/or oranges. For the sake of the wedding ceremony, we could adorn each clutch with a broach or flower.

It’s something that’s fun, and instead of throwing away their bouquets, the girls get to keep a fun clutch. And, as you know, I’m not much of a flower person (although they smell wonderful and I am having an affair with ranunculus), so this could be another different and unique element for the wedding (even Mr. Argyle said it’s a cool idea). I still plan on carrying a bouquet (I’m sure some of you were asking this in the back of your mind).

In searching for the perfect clutch, I obviously ended up on Etsy. My original plan was to have them each carry the same clutch. That is, until I kept finding more and more I liked. Two of my favorites are below:

So, hive, what do you think? Should my girls all carry the same clutch, or should I mix it up and give each girl a different one in red?

Fabulous idea! What a great way to not feel like you’re throwing money away on flowers.

Very cute, and they can think of your wonderful day each time they use the purse in the future!

I love the clutch idea! I’d go with all different red ones (because I’m not a matchy-matchy type person). But either way, I’m sure they’ll be adorable!

@Miss Stargazer: Good point - I didn’t think of it that way!

@missomally: Thanks for the feedback - I was trying to avoid matchy-matchy.

I think the clutches are a great idea — and definitely have more longevity than flowers!

Alert!! I know an awesome clutch designer on Etsy….. Check out http://www.etsy.com/shop/mollusa I LOVE her stuff….. I’ve feature it on my blog a bunch of times (see http://oliveweddings.blogspot.com/2010/02/clutch-cuteness.html) I’ve been thinking about having my girls carry the clutches too and they LOVE the idea… It’s a keepsake so they’re all for it! Good luck finding the perfect ones!

I love the clutch idea (I am using it as well!) I’m not sure if your girls are in different dresses but if they are you may want to keep the clutches the same. If they are in the same dresses (or alternating colors like the picture) then maybe a different clutch for the different colors.

I think this is such a great and fun idea! Plus they can have a keepsake after instead of wasting money on flowers that will just die. LOVE IT!

I love this idea! My sister actually did this in 2008 for the mothers. It looks so chic.

I love the idea of the clutch, especially since the bridesmaids can actually use them, unlike flowers that will get tossed away. My only concern is seeing them walk down the aisle, carrying a clutch might look odd. People might wonder, why do they need a purse during the ceremony - they couldn’t go one hour without their purse? lol

that’s a great idea! i think red clutches in slightly different styles would be cute, but it would definitely be easier to get all the same kind!

@SaraElizabeth: Thanks for the tip!

@FurtureMrsTal: That’s what I was thinking - I have a feeling I will go down the different clutch path.

@Miss Pinot Grigio: I thought about that too. I have a feeling FMIL would never use it again!
