Dressing My ‘Maids (Part Uno).

February 26th, 2010 @ 4:35 pm by Mrs. Hot Dog

This has been one of the harder decisions for me to make so far. It’s not that I can’t find anything; quite the opposite! I’m finding waaaay too many gorgeous dresses for my ladies to wear!

I’m a firm believer that my bridesmaids should feel beautiful (or at least comfortable!) in their dresses like I will in mine! So my search has led me to dresses that are wearable again. Most of the dresses I’ve singled out are ones that I would love for myself!! LOL

This search has been going on for well over 4 months now, on many different websites and in several different stores. I knew from the get-go that I didn’t want anything blatantly “bridesmaid-y”. And one stipulation was that the dress had to look cute with brown cowboy boots! Sound funky?? Trust me! Look for yourself…

SEE?! I told you so. Anywhatsits…

I also set a price point (for myself) while shopping. I want to be able to accommodate EVERY girl, no matter their financial situation. AAANNNNNNDDDDD I really don’t like intruding by asking how much they can afford. SO the limit is $100 (+ or - a few dollars). And seriously?! Why are BM dresses so expensive?! Some of the ones I really liked from Jenny Yoo and Watters cost more than MY dress! Sheesh.

I looked through all the dresses at stores like Forever21, Anthropologie, and J.Crew. Since nothing there really struck my fancy, I started searching lesser known stores, mostly online. In the midst of this, I read a blog post about a store called Ruche. They have the CUTEST clothes! Seriously. And they are super affordable! Here’s what I found that could work:

The top two are really my inner hippie coming out… I absolutely adore them and would wear them on any given occasion. But I’m not sure any of my friends would like them. My sister says I have a “weird fashion sense”. Whatev.

The last dress would be totally perfect! But, there are one or two snags. First off, it’s sold out!! I could probably wait for it to come back. The second one may just be me overthinking (my favorite new pastime), but I really don’t want the brown in the dress to “clash” with the brown boots… Since everyone is picking their own, I really have no idea what shades they will be. What if it looks funky with two shades of brown??? I don’t know if anyone would even notice this other than me, but it would bug the CRAP out of me… ALL DAY.

So, what did I do? I kept looking…

Am I over-analyzing the brown-on-brown thing? Was it this hard for anyone else to find the right bridesmaid’s dress?

ooooh Those are really cute :) I love the look of cowboy boots too! I think if you go with the brown one you need the boots to be a darker brown and the bouquets they carry really need to have pop color or they’ll look very blank canvas. That’s just my opinion though.

I felt so overwhelmed by the choices that I took the easy way out. I picked a color at David’s Bridal (”wisteria,” a lavender color) that I adored and told them that they could have any dress in that color that was knee length. Done! No more worrying over what would look good on everyone (I have a 6′2 bridesmaid and a 5′2 bridesmaid and two others in between).

I think that they are all adorable. And I am a big fan of brown on brown. In fact, I am sporting it right now. All three are a great choice.

Has anyone ordered anything from Ruche before? Their clothes look so adorable, I just wonder if the quality is any good..

I *Love* the second one. And the 3rd is super-cute too. I don’t think brown on brown would clash, but I agree with Curlysue that some colorful bouquets would add a lot.

Choosing bridesmaid dresses was one of the more stressful parts of wedding planning for me (thus far.) Looks like you had some great finds - I’m excited to see what you ultimately pick(ed)! I LOVE the cowboy boot look…my girls would never go for it, but I fully intend to wear some rockin boots under my wedding gown =)

Oh. my. gosh. LOVE! All of them!
So right up my alley! I think all of them are great, and honestly the brown on brown thing is just fine. If the dress were solid brown it would be too much, but it’s not!

BM dress shopping has definitely been the most stressful part of my wedding planning so far. I finally just had to bite the bullet and set it up with David’s Bridal last week because of time. After hours and days and months of searching I couldn’t find anywhere that had the colors/originality that I would’ve liked.

Ruche is so pretty! Like an affordable JCrew!

How about a light pink/peach type color? It is easily rewearable and would look great with cowboy boots too!

So pretty! Is there any way you can link to those two top dresses? I’ve searched the Ruche site and I can’t find them. :P

I am also having my girls wear their own brown cowboy boots and finding dresses was tough for me too. I finally found cute little brown ones from a company called Muse for about $50 and they look really cute on everyone! Ecstatic! Just keep your eyes open and you will eventually find something you love.

SO cute! This post actually made me really happy, ’cause they just opened a Ruche right across the street from my apartment and I had never heard of it! I’m glad to hear that it’s a good store!!
