So, I spent the first few months after our engagement scouring the internet for a local photographer the Mr. and I both liked. We already had our venues booked and date set, so it was important that the next thing we booked be our photographer (because I LOVE photography – probably about as much as Miss Hot Wings). I had contacted what seems like a million photographers inquiring about availability, packages, pricing, etc. before we narrowed it down to a handful. After we narrowed it down to about 4 or 5, we spent some time reviewing their bodies of work, their blogs and websites and asking people we knew that had used them before what they were like.
It was at that point when I decided to meet with two of them. I had heard fantastic things about both of them from people we know first-hand, and I (we) really loved their work. Mr. Argyle was not as concerned about how well we clicked with them as I was, so I went alone to both meetings. They each showed me some albums and photos, shared with me their backgrounds and pricing and we chatted over just about everything (I like to talk… a lot). It really was like sitting at a coffee shop with an old friend just catching up. It was great because I really wanted to make sure I clicked with our photographer. After all, she was going to spending one of the most important days of my life with me and documenting it.
Once I met with both of them, we spent a few weeks talking about what we liked about each. We had some criteria for our photographer, regardless:

Since I’ve spilled the beans on our appetizer selection, as well as introduced our caterer, I suppose it would make sense to talk about our menu. I have to say, I’m really excited about the food we’ll be serving.
First off, along with our hot passed hors d’oeuvres (I swear, I have to look up how to spell that word every single time. Those tricky French.) we’ll be having a cheese, fruit and crackers station and a vegetable crudité/Mediterranean spread, including hummus and baba ganoush. Mmmm mmm GOOD! Our caterer has promised to make us up a plate of all the appetizers so we get to actually eat some during the all the picture-taking.
Me loves cheeese!

I am a crafter at heart. I say “at heart” because although I love it, I have a hard time committing to the visions I first start with. Imagine a girl who loves Michaels and buys scrapbooking materials at the end of every major period in her life, but still has no complete scrapbooks to show for it. That girl…
** head down between her legs **
But nevertheless, I decided that this would be THE starting point in my life where I would see projects to the end. So after picking our date, our city, the ceremony venue, and our reception venue, I began feverishly collecting Save the Date Inspirations.
Allow me to unveil our Save the Dates (STDs). This is what I ended up with! In this post I’ll show you the STD in its full glory with details and shots of all the work.
The metallic ivory envelops had a gold embossed return address across the envelop flap. Notice the metallic-ness? Yummm-o! I’m oh-so-sad to have to blur out almost all of the goodness.
No, I’m not talking about an alarm clock or a wedding countdown clock… I’m talking about my biological clock.
(huge shout out to BM Talls)
So my biological clock isn’t actually ticking (like this! ) - I’m only 25 (OK, OK, going on 26), but for some reason, lately I have baby fever… and I’ve got it bad.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
After we made our way around the room, talking with each table, our coordinator, Rick, directed us toward the stage. MOH Deniz and Best Man Curtis joined us onstage for the traditional toasts. (As an aside, I had to pee really bad at this point. I know that I was the bride, and everyone would’ve waited for me—but dinner had already gone long. We wanted to make sure that there was plenty of time for fauxtobooth fun and dancing, so I just went with it. But now you know why I look a little antsy in some of the following photos!)
Best Man Curtis and the Dude have been friends since their sophomore year of college. They bonded over a love of statistics and college football.

I often go into my closet and peek into my wedding shoe box because I am so anxious to wear them. I’ve been tempted to pull them out several times just for a practice run, but my rational side always steps in and tells me to wait until the wedding day to wear them. So, there they sit in their dust bag and box just waiting for their debut in April. In case you need a reminder of what my shoes look like, they are the Something Blue by Manolo Blahnik.

They have a very high heel and a very pointy toe. I am a well seasoned heel walker, though. In fact, you will almost never catch me in anything without some sort of a heel. But, I’m still worried that they might be painful and that I might slip and fall, so I am starting to figure out what I’ll need to keep these babies comfortable (OK, let’s be honest, they won’t be comfortable, but as comfortable as they can be).

Dun, Dun, Dun… and now, the final chapter in the epic bag-blitz!
We printed, we sewed, and now it’s time for drawstrings - so grab your materials and let’s go!
In addition to the assembled bag, we’ll need string
and some eyelets/eyelet-setter.

I wish H.Dawg was as excited about all this planning business as I am. It’s not that he’s apathetic, at all. He gives me his honest opinions of my ideas. And he keeps telling me how great it will be to just be married. But I can’t get him to give any real input.
His one suggestion so far consisted of a yellow aisle runner and “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” as the processional. I hope to God he was kidding. But who really knows? I didn’t DARE ask about the shoes… Ruby slippers wouldn’t go too well with our theme…
And, to give you another example, this conversation just took place at lunch:
ME: “So, are there any flowers that you really don’t like, and wouldn’t want to be used in your boutonniere?”
HIM: “Well, just don’t pick anything ugly.” (le sigh)
ME: “How do I know what you think is ugly? We have VERY different ideas of what’s pretty, so why don’t you just come with me to the florist?”
HIM: “UH, no. How about when you’re there, and you see something that you like, pick the exact opposite, since you know that’s what I would do.” (cue hysterical-hyena cackle)

After our first dance, we settled in to eat a little, but before too long it was time for our toasts. Our first toast was by Godmother Swan. Since we did not have a bridal party, we got a little creative with who would deliver our toasts for us. Godmother Swan has been a very special part of my life. She was a good friend of my grandparents when she lived in the Caribbean. I’ve never met any of my grandparents (most died before I was born or when I was a baby), so she has always been a living link to my maternal grandparents. She’s also Mommy Swan’s godmother and the grandmother of my goddaughter. Are you still following? Let’s just say that while not blood related, she is like family to me.
Her toast was sweet, and I was glad to have been able to give such an honor to someone who has been like a second mother/grandmother to me all of my life.
There was a drawback, though.

Where do polar bears fit into the Hamster wedding? Well, other than a small but pivotal role in the proposal, nowhere. However, based on the crazy postage necessary for our invitations (they are friggin’ stiff and heavy), a polar bear would be making a very conspicuous appearance, like so:
You like? Yeah, me neither.
I have nothing against polar bears in particular (never had a poor encounter with one), but featuring one on our invitation envelopes wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. That’s when I turned to the custom stamp route - via Zazzle. Using our engagement photos from our shoot with Erica Lyn, I created two stamps:

We’re doing letterpress invitations, a fact that I’m pretty freaking excited about. I thought letterpress was going to be way out of our price range, but thanks to my beloved Boxcar Press, and the quote they gave Ribs, I found out that letterpress was 100% doable for us. She told me to stop whining, get a quote, and, well, I did.
We’re having…
…pressed in 1-color for around $600. My custom design, which is what I was planning to do in the first place, but again, I thought it was way out of our range.
Now, insert some neuroses.

Sorry, I couldn’t think of a good title for my music post that hadn’t already been used, so I’ll just let you all use your imagination!
It’s finally time for me to do the obligatory music playlist post, which I hope you all will enjoy. I know I read everyone’s playlists I could find before creating my own, to find the best reception music ideas out there. But then, I kind of a “Top 40″ girl, so making the playlist wasn’t that hard for me!
We aren’t really doing much to appease the masses (read, the older guests) with our music selections. ’Sweet Caroline’ or ’Brown Eyed Girl’ will not be making appearances at our wedding, because, frankly, I’m just not that into dancing to a lot of older tunes. Don’t get me wrong, I love classic rock, but I just don’t feel like a lot of the songs are that great to dance to. And we will have full control, because we’re doing all the music ourselves!
Yep, we’ll be having an “iPod Wedding”, or actually, using my laptop!

When we left off, I told you what Mr. Mary Jane and I are looking for in a [belated] honeymoon.
With lots of searching, here’s what we found out.
First, let’s talk cruises. Sites like CruiseCritic.com are really valuable for personal opinions regarding specific cruise destinations and ships. See, every ship has different amenities. This is actually something I didn’t know prior to looking into this type of vacation. Also, some cruise lines are aimed at families and children; others aren’t. There are such things as ’adult-only’ cruises also. For example, while I’d heard of Carnival, Princess, and many of the other ’big name’ cruises, I had not heard of Regent, Silver Sea, Seabourn cruise lines. These were very luxurious cruises, but most were too long in time frame to fit our needs.
After a lot of searching and review-reading, we decided that we should steer away from cruises to the Caribbean or Hawaii. Reviews of various cruise lines and routes were full of complaints regarding overcrowded restaurants and decks, little kids screaming everywhere, and overall poor service. We just didn’t want to take the chance.

I revamped our inspiration board since I made the last one. The last one just lacked a general focus. It was almost as if I just “Googled” all images that were garnet, tangerine and chocolate brown. Since Mr. Argyle and I finalized a few more details and made some decisions on our end, I redid our board. I’m sure I will redo this several times over the next few months, but putting it together really helps me to see a bigger picture, especially since our wedding day is still a ways away.
Enjoy your second dose of Garnet, Tangerine and Chocolate Brown!
