I display an originality, a perspicacity, a certain je ne sais quoi that sets me apart. I posses a mysterious authority which compels people to do my bidding. I am a regal blonde with classic features and the daintiness of Dresden porcelain. I am poised, soft-spoken, and well educated... Mrs. Lamb, Norfolk Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student Engagement Date: January 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!

Mine at Last: The Lambaids!

February 20th, 2010 @ 6:55 pm by Mrs. Lamb

Since I haven’t been a bridesmaid myself before, I didn’t really know what they should do except for all sorts of contradicting notions thrown about the interwebs. I thought about what I wanted, which was ultimately to be surrounded by friends who would understand me when I had an emotional meltdown, who would laugh at my jokes, who would hold my hand, and who would tell me if I had a boogie hanging out my nose. My Lambaids were all that and a bag of chips.

Ms. Potato Chips, Boston/Narragansett RI Age and Occupation: 29, PhD Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Personal Trainer/Business Owner/Physical Therapy Assistant Engagement Date: January 1, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Narragansett Towers About Me: A semi-professional bookworm, if I could be a literary character I’d be a cross between Jo March and Jane Eyre, only better accessorized and much lazier. My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.

Magic Hair

February 20th, 2010 @ 5:30 pm by Ms Potato Chips

My hair has a mind of its own. It’s not straight. Not curvy. Not really wavy, either. Somewhere between all those things + poufy.

It’s Hermione Granger hair. NOT the Hermione from the movie. Let’s get real. MovieHermione merely hinted at the reckless frizzy sometimes-disaster of BookHermione. MovieHermione was coiffed-bedhead-chic. My hair was BookHermione, frizzy and poufy, the end.

Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!

I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!

Cakie! - The Frosting

Friends, let me tell you about my latest fixation:

Princess Cake.

Cakie! - The Frosting : wedding cake Bcakes6

This Swedish treat features delicately sweetened vanilla cake, filled with raspberry jam and fresh cream. It’s moist, yet sturdy, and shaped to perfection with a layer of marzipan frosting.

It is amazing. I suggest you all find the nearest Swedish bakery and try it out.

But the reason I bring up this mouthwatering morsel is mainly because of the frosting. There are, it seems, alternatives to the standard buttercream or fondant choices. Let’s discuss:

They’re Here…

February 20th, 2010 @ 11:30 am by Mrs. Lace

What’s here, you may ask? After many meetings, a 43 thread email and painstaking research, our invitations have arrived.

Now, if you know me well, you’d think that I’d want to design and handcraft all of my invitations. But between a full time job, family and friends and a wedding for 250 guests, I realized I just wouldn’t be able to sanely make all of the invitations the way I’d want to AND still give fully to everything and everyone else in my life (although being trapped in a room for weeks with my X-Acto and self-healing cutting mat doesn’t sound all that bad).

As Mr. Lace and I began thinking about invitations, we knew two things: 1. We didn’t want to break the bank on invitations since we already broke it on the catering and venue and 2. We wanted to be as earth-friendly as possible.

So we went on our way looking for something different and fun.

I’m a farmer’s daughter living in rural Central California, but will always have a special place in my heart for the city. My future husband is a 27-year-old extraordinarily tall, exceptionally cute, and undoubtedly Canadian boy who was able to sweep me off my feet and take me for his bride. I love color, folksy songs that make me smile, interior design, kettle corn, my one-year-old puppy, Juno, and my fiance, of course! We’re planning a DIY garden wedding with a laundry-list of projects, all while dealing with the bureaucracy that is American Immigration!

Gocco Fail

February 19th, 2010 @ 6:00 pm by Mrs. Dachshund

I asked for a Gocco for Christmas. I know that it may not have been the wisest choice considering Gocco supplies are becoming increasingly expensive and difficult to find, but it was just one of those have-to-have things. Searching for Goccoed invitations was, after all, how I found Weddingbee!

So, I ended up receiving a PG-10 Gocco for Christmas and I let it sit. It sat in its box for about two months, half because I hadn’t finalized an invitation design, and half because I was a little intimidated by the whole process. Sure, I’d watched enough videos online to know how the Gocco works, but I was pretty nervous I’d ruin my precious screens.

A few nights ago I decided I wanted to try it out. My invitation suite design is finished, and I knew I had to get on the ball making the invites because they have to go out soon! Eek! (And, they’re going to take forever.) The sleeve I designed and used the Cricut to cut had the simplest Gocco design, so I figured that’d be the best place to start.

Holy moly… let’s take a deep breath here…

My lovely little wedding countdown has just informed me that we have 100, yes one hundred, days left until the wedding!

Wow… this means that as of tomorrow, we are officially in the double digits of our countdown to the big day. OMG! When we originally started our planning, it seemed like that ticker was at an impossibly high number, but now it seems like we are getting down to the home stretch!

Mrs. Rainbow, Tampa Age and Occupation: 22, Makeup Artist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/Programmer Engagement Date: November 27, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Gamble Plantation About Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!

Fate in a Fortune Cookie

February 19th, 2010 @ 5:05 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

I’m one of those people that loves reading horoscopes. I believe I’ve had brief encounters with the paranormal, and I’m a firm believer in fate, destiny, and the idea that we’re not quite as in control as we think we are. I believe in signs and intuition and I don’t think that there’s a logical explanation for everything. Just look at our story.

Some people write things like that off—Mr. Rainbow is one of those people. He firmly believes that there is a logical, reasonable explanation for everything. His mindset is basically this: if you can’t prove it, it’s not good enough.

While I can understand his thinking when it comes to things that he would refer to as “pseudo science” I’m just a little more free-spirited than he is. He’s an engineer, I’m an artist—go figure.

Now, before you lock me up in a loony bin, know that I don’t take these things as fact. I find them interesting, slightly eerie, and just all around intriguing. That doesn’t mean that I devote a lot of time into these things, but I do make it a point to browse the horoscope in the latest issue of Cosmo/Glamour/InStyle/etc. and when it comes to choosing a fortune cookie, it’s no fun if it’s not randomly selected.

About Mrs. Paisley

Finding a band was something I originally asked Mr. Paisley to do, but gradually, as summer turned to fall, and Mr. Paisley got wrapped up in teaching and his Ph.D. studies (um, so FREAKIN’ proud of him, I’m not about to mess with that!), I realized I may as well take on the task. And what a doozy of a task it ended up being!

I started looking into big band music. It was too expensive all around. I didn’t reeeeally want a DJ… so, I turned to one of my favorite bees, Miss Cowboy Boot, for her bluegrass band inspiration!

I contacted her band, Elephant Revival, and their manager was very nice and said he’d ask the band if they’d want to go to California in the summer. To encourage them, I spent hours researching Bluegrass festivals where they could get gigs around my wedding, to make it worth it.

Sadly, I never did get a response back from the band manager.

Stupid WordPress. I wanted the title to look like this:

I don’t wanna get married.

Anyway, I know I’m like a broken record with my constant “I never imagined my wedding or my dress or any of this stuff” that I now LOVE writing about nonsense. But there’s a pretty simple reason:

I never really wanted to get married and I never thought I would.

Gotta Dollar Bill Ya’ll?

February 19th, 2010 @ 3:57 pm by Mrs. Argyle

So a few months ago this post caught my eye. I had already fought with the idea of the budget before and whether or not I should feel guilty that my wedding may cost above average or have an above average number of guests. When I stumbled upon Miss Duckling’s post, it made me feel better that there are other brides-to-be out there feeling the same way. Not that my wedding is going to be extravagant or expensive, but the truth of the matter is that my family saved for my wedding from the day I was born. I should not feel guilty that I have fantastic parents that thought well in advance about the fact that some day their gorgeous blue-eyed daughter (I’m allowed toot my own horn) would get married. Not only that, but I have been blessed to be planning my wedding with the wonderful Mr. Argyle whose parents have so graciously offered to pay for parts of the wedding, as well. We are completely humbled and grateful for our parents’ generosity.

I understand that with where the economy is now, many brides/grooms to be are having to cut corners, have a smaller wedding, etc. I definitely get it. Brides out there are becoming more and more budget-savvy, but that should not lead to judgments based on how much you or I or friends are spending on their weddings. You see, with each bride and groom comes a different set of situations and environments. It is important that we are sensitive to the fact that everyone will have a different wedding budget. Many brides and grooms foot the bill themselves, others have parents who pay, and some share the cost with their parents.
