Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CAAge and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and PromotionsFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior DesignerEngagement Date: March 5, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CAAbout Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
For years now I’ve been annoyed with the skin on my face. I have combination skin with an oily T-zone and dry cheeks, and an occasional pimple or two. I’ve spent who knows how much money trying out different face washes and moisturizers, as well as different makeup to help cover the shine, but still ended up looking like this every time:
Mrs. Sushi, Hershey/HawaiiAge and Occupation: 27, Air Force PhotographerFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Laborer/Aspiring Hip Hop ProducerEngagement Date: December 25, 2007Wedding Date: March 2009Blogging Since: October 9, 2006Venue: Byodo-In Temple, Luau ReceptionAbout Me: I’m a notorious people-watcher who loves all things paper, food, traveling, grubbin’ on food, gossip magazines, food, sock monkeys…did I mention food?! Mr. Sushi and I are both haolepinos (half Filipino, half Caucasian) and hope to be able to somehow incorporate our cultures at our destination wedding in Hawaii. All while planning from the sweetest place in earth, Hershey!
Our wedding was my third trip to Hawaii in 4 years (Mr. Sushi’s 2nd trip). Between that and having lived on Oahu in my younger years, I have already done almost everything there is to do on Oahu… three times over. This time I wanted to do something a lil’ different, so Mr. Sushi and I decided to fly to the Big Island for a few days.
We stayed at the Kilauea Military Camp (KMC), which is a cottage and resort based at for active and retired military. Not only was is super affordable, but it is located right in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We had a cute 1 bedroom cabin with a jacuzzi tub and fireplace, ALL to ourselves.
Just like on Oahu, the weather was less than desirable. Initially, we had planned to hike the volcano ourselves, but since it was cold, windy and very wet, we ended up taking a van tour instead. We were the only ones on the tour though; it was like we had our own personal tour guide that day. Read more…
Mrs. Pudding, Greater Toronto Area/VermontAge and Occupation: 26, High School TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Computer EngineerEngagement Date: August 2008Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Catholic Ceremony, Cultural Hall ReceptionAbout Me: Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
I have some SUPER BIG NEWS today!!!!!! News that definitely warrants the overuse of capital letters and exclamation points.
Mr. Pudding and I attended our Change of Status interview today, and I have been approved for a Green Card! It’s coming in the mail, and in as little as two weeks I will finally be able to work, travel, and generally contribute to society once again!
We are beyond excited! The interview went very smoothly, and upon exiting the building Mr. Pudding gave me a giant SMOOCH! It’s been such a long road, but we’ve finally arrived!
Mrs. Cookie, DenverAge and Occupation: 25, Nonprofit Fundraiser/Theatre DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Financial AnalystEngagement Date: September 2007Wedding Date: September 2008Blogging Since: May 8, 2008Venue: Ten Mile StationAbout Me: With a degree in Theatre I never realized that planning a wedding was a lot like Theatre Management, until I started planning my own. I am a coffee addict, especially Starbucks' Grande Mochas, yummy! I love to cook (especially chocolate chip cookies for my honey), travel to exotic places, and be creative. As a couple, Mr. Cookie and I are extremely practical, down to earth, and children at heart. We live in a cozy abode with our adorable Pomeranian, and love to play board games and watch movies into the evening.

Mrs. Buttons, Clearwater, FLAge and Occupation: 24, "Working on it"Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Financial ServicesEngagement Date: June 13, 2009Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Carlouel Yacht ClubAbout Me: I'm a self proclaimed perfectionist and a professional nomad (seriously, I've lived in TX, WI, MI, FL, NC, and now VA!). I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!
During the wedding planning process, I always find it interesting to compare my previous expectations to what pans out in reality. For instance, when I went dress shopping, I was expecting to be overwhelmed with emotions when I found “the one”. It didn’t happen… but that is just one of the realities of the planning process I’ve had to deal with!
I experienced another one while planning the honeymoon. Ahhhh the honeymoon. Read more…
Mrs. Star, New York CityAge and Occupation: 22, ActressFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Casting AssistantWedding Date: October 2009Venue: Ceremony: The Kraine Theatre, Reception: Midtown Loft & TerraceAbout Me: I’m a professional actress who’s always had New York City in her blood and I'm finally getting the chance to make a home in Manhattan with my fiancé, my dog, and my big dreams! I love polka dots, craft projects, Dunkin’ Donuts’ iced coffee, and anything sparkly. I’m having a blast planning our elegant/dramatic/New York City/acting-themed/largely-DIY wedding and am thrilled to be the youngest current Miss Blogger!
If you’re in the firm “we really don’t need a videographer when we already have an awesome photographer” camp, then I totally get it. I was there. And then I saw wedding videos like Mrs. Kitten’s, cried, and changed my mind, of course. I’m SO glad I did.
I cry pretty much every time I watch it.
So now you’re probably thinking, ‘Oh, sure, Star, I’d love to get a videographer, but there’s no way our budget can withstand one more assault.’ Well, here are my tips for bending that budget into submission. It was probably asking for it anyways.

Mrs. Hot Dog, Cheyenne, WYAge and Occupation: 23, Health Information SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Personal Trainer
Engagement Date: March 2009Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Family Ranch outside Glenrock, WYAbout Me: I'm a city girl by birth and rural girl by choice. I'm ready to take on the world with a big heart and a big smile! I love all things crafty and DIY. I live in Cheyenne, WY with Mr. HD and our 2 fur babies, our dachshunds, Ollie and Mia. I love travel, adventure, Finding Nemo, '90s music, animals, and laughing. He is the cheese to my macaroni and together we spend more time watching movies than we probably should! I'm an old soul who is super duper excited to pull off our down home-rustic-chic-country wedding (on the cheap)!
A little while ago I went to a few garage sales with my buddy Brittany. Neither of us really had anything particular in mind; that’s the best way to garage-sale!
We went to a couple that were busts. Then we stopped at one small, unassuming house and found the jackpot! Well, OK, a mini-jackpot. I walked away with 16 BRAND NEW white, round paper lanterns (with cords and bulbs), 2 metal (square) hanging lanterns, and a large wicker basket for… $2!! Yes, TWO DOLLARS!
From the rest of the sales I purchased an 8-piece glass tumbler set. It has cute stars on the rims. I’m not entirely sure what I’ll use it for, but for $2 it was a steal. Some $0.25, different-colored, cross-stitch fabric may serve as place mats. There’s also a cute jar and blue triangle jug that I may use for some flowers… who knows.
Mrs. Argyle, St. LouisAge and Occupation: 24, Project CoordinatorFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, PilotEngagement Date: February 15, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on WashingtonAbout Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.
And, no, this is no post about the adorable Kermit the Frog.
I’ve been on a mission to find ways and ideas to incorporate green and eco-friendly concepts into our daily lives and our wedding. Our initial idea was to come up with an eco-friendly favor for the guests. The first idea was plantable trees, but that can it can become costly, especially for a large wedding. The second idea was to use plantable seed paper for our invitations or menus. Something the guests can plant, rather than throw away. But, that option was also a bit pricey for what we needed.
In my search, I did manage to find some fun ideas, all of which would make a great addition to almost any wedding. These are the plantable tree favors:
Mrs. Sewing, San Mateo, CA/Honolulu, HIAge and Occupation: 24, Electrical EngineerFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical EngineerEngagement Date: June 27, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Anela Garden Chapel & Japanese Cultural Center, HonoluluAbout Me: I'm an easily entertained, compulsive idea-scheming machine who loves good art, good food, and a good engineering challenge. I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!
Mr. Sewing and I met with a couple of bakeries before deciding on who would create our cake. But when we walked into Satura Cakes, I knew right away it was the one.
Sponge cake is amazing. Light, fluffy, and not too sweet - you can literally eat the whole cake without “feeling it”. Suffice to say, if you want a cake with a guarantee that people will like - sponge is your man.
And although the sponginess alone was enough to seal the deal with me, there were several other factors that certainly sweetened the proposal. Read more…
Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CAAge and Occupation: 27, Law StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force PilotEngagement Date: February 21, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill WineryAbout Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!
A few days before the proposal day, Mr. Jelly told me that he was going to take me whale watching at Stinson Beach. He said his friend Ryan had a coworker who knew all about whale watching and we would go with them. I was a little suspicious (OK – a lot suspicious) because Stinson Beach is a special place for us—we had one of our first dates there and also celebrated our 5 year anniversary there. The few days before the proposal, I kept looking for clues and hints but I really wasn’t sure. Then, the morning of, Mr. Jelly said we were meeting Ryan for donuts in San Rafael before we headed to Stinson Beach. That’s when I figured the proposal wasn’t going to happen after all, since his friend coming with us was now a reality.
Little did I know, this was all part of Mr. Jelly’s plan to throw me off. Read more…
Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San DiegoAge and Occupation: 28, ProfessorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, InstructorEngagement Date: December 20, 2008Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood RestaurantAbout Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
This cost breakdown for our save the dates only includes the items I bought specifically for the project. I already had a paper cutter, embossing gun, embossing powder, double-sided tape, and bone folder.
My table below includes a lot of shopping around. I went to my local paper warehouse store. They were very helpful and had a lot of stock for me to touch and feel. But I did find other online stores to have more competitive prices for some items. Read more…
Mrs. Taffy, Ann ArborAge and Occupation: 28, Color and Materials DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Automotive DesignerEngagement Date: May 9, 2008Wedding Date: May 2009Blogging Since: September 14, 2008Venue: University of Michigan UnionAbout Me: I’m a girl who is crazy about Mr. Taffy, sewing, dancing, almost all types of sweets, and our cute pet canaries. I dislike touching fuzzy fabric of any kind, eating somewhat squishy food, and Michigan winters. Mr. Taffy and I are having a blast planning our Ann Arbor wedding, and cannot wait to share our day with friends and family.
It was finally time to step into my wedding dress! Although I had already spent quite a bit of time in the dress during fittings, I was thrilled to put the dress on. This time, Mr. Taffy was actually going to see it!
The lace on my dress made it quite heavy, but my friends were ready to lift! It didn’t look pretty or glamorous maneuvering to get inside of the floof, but stepping (OK, climbing) into that dress, surrounded by my mom, sisters and friends, was a wonderful moment, even though it looks like the dress is trying to consume me! Mrs. Pug, New York City/Half Moon Bay, CAAge and Occupation: 33, LawyerFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, dittoEngagement Date: July 2008Wedding Date: March 2010Venue: Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon BayAbout Me: The Mr. and I are two 30-somethings who enjoy tasty sweets of all kinds, our neighborhood wine store, and cuddling with our pug. NYC is where we live and the city we love, but we’re doing the deed out in Northern California. We are trying to keep the affair small, intimate, and manageable. Our motto is: the less people, the better! (I’m kidding.)
Ms. Potato Chips, Boston/Narragansett RIAge and Occupation: 29, PhD StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Personal Trainer/Business Owner/Physical Therapy AssistantEngagement Date: January 1, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: The Narragansett TowersAbout Me: A semi-professional bookworm, if I could be a literary character I’d be a cross between Jo March and Jane Eyre, only better accessorized and much lazier. My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.
-Douglas Adams
Every day I look at my calendar and do a little countdown in my head. There is only a matter of months left, piddly little months that are sure to fly by, months that have no regard for my endless to-do list, the items I haven’t even begun to think about, let alone accomplish.
All in a matter of months, all this lead-up for one day, ONE day, THE DAY, and then… it’ll be over.
It’s a day that has been on my mind when I go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning, a day that I rehearse over and over, anticipating all possible scenarios.
Yes, my friends, in just a couple short months comes the day I take my Ph.D. preliminary exams.
