“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Many couples struggle with whether or not to include children at their wedding. In fact, you can find many other posts from other bees about children in weddings from Mrs. Corn, Mrs. Tulip, Mrs Milkshake, Miss Snow, and Mrs. Gummi Bear, to name a few.
Many people have adult-only celebrations because of the hassle that are children. In our particular situation, we never once thought about excluding them. I have young cousins who will be our flower girl and ring bearer. Mr. Hot Wings’ cousins have young children. And finally, our view of marriage is that of bringing family together irrespective of age. So I guess that means including the kids. On occasion, I still am unsure if we’ve made the right decision. What if a baby starts to cry during our ceremony? What if a child decides to take a big chunk out of our wedding cake before we’ve had the chance to cut it?
I also wonder if I really want our friends and family to be “parenting” instead of enjoying the wedding festivities (who am I kidding… this just means that I want them to be able to drink freely and be wildly fun). Is it possible to still have parents have fun and stay for the “partying”? In the end, Mr. Hot Wings and I decided that we didn’t want to make the decision for our friends and family. We will let everyone know that there will be an open bar and fun festivities and allow our adult friends and family to decide if they would like to include their children. We’re hoping this is the right decision.

Since the glass double-happiness tealight holders are too fragile to make the trip to Hawaii, we needed a suitable alternative. What can go through the mail (or the airport), undamaged and in a relatively small amount of space?
Paper!
Mr. Sew, for those that know him, is a master of origami. It’s one of his many talents, and one that unfortunately goes unappreciated most of the time.
Mr. Sew: Look, I made a dodecahedron-geometrical-ball-shape from 78 pieces of your expensive engineering paper!*
Me: Great, like what am I going to do with that? *tosses*
*Not a direct quotation, but close enough.
Well, surprisingly, my sentiments towards the paper craft have changed dramatically now that I am finding uses for them!
A quick online search of “origami flowers” popped up exactly what I was looking for:

Just like with the little “Love Is…” comic that Mr. N cut out of the paper for me, I try to think of fun new ways to make him smile. Sometimes I’ll Google the word “love” and email him a cute picture when he’s at work. Most recently I sent this…
Aaaah… the cocktail hour…
I love making sure that I use my time with friends and family wisely. Mr. Swan really wanted to attend our cocktail hour so that we could greet our guests, eat some of the great food we’d chosen for them, and enjoy the general good times. Our cocktail hour was what I like to call “productive”. Here are some things that I did during our cocktail hour that not only made it productive, but most importantly FUN! Remember I’ve said it’s totally necessary to have fun!
1. We greeted many of our guests, especially those that I’d never met before.

Kaytedid designed these bold Save the Dates for her upcoming October wedding!

Keep on loading your inspirational wedding pics to the gallery to see them featured here on the blog! Remember, your images must be under 1MB in size, or they won’t load.
A few days ago, I was reading through my feed reader’s section of wedding blogs. I’ve culled this section quite a bit recently, as I’m out of the “inspiration” stage of wedding planning and into the nitty-gritty details. One blog that I’ve kept around, though, is A Practical Wedding.
So. What’s the point of all this? Well, a few days ago, she posted a blog titled, “Wedding Sexism (This Time, It’s For Men)”. Without hijacking her post, the gist of the blog is that (and I quote): “…our culture demands that while the wedding day is our EVERYTHING the wedding day is the groom’s NOTHING. Or worse, it’s a trial he has to slog through to keep his woman happy.” Hmm. I’ve been rolling this around in my head for a few days, and I have to say… I have come to realize that there’s a lot of pressure on guys to be uninvolved in the wedding planning process. Granted, not every guy succumbs to this pressure (Mr. FF included), but it’s definitely lurking.
Take, for example, the reaction of one vendor when Mr. FF showed up at an appointment of ours. She was simply astonished that not only would A) a groom show up to an appointment but B) have an opinion on what the meeting was about! I mean… imagine! A groom that actually cares about what is being planned and how our money is being spent! He’s obviously a rare breed!
This might sound like an exaggeration, but I assure you, it is not.

So, after my last post about our chosen bridesmaids’ dresses, many of you wanted to know how the dress works on REAL girls. So, I sent a plea to the bridesmaids that I have mailed the dress to (some requested that I just hold on to them until the day of) for some pics and their thoughts… and here’s what they gave me!
I hope it helps many of you who were thinking of using convertible dresses- the Victoria’s Secret ones are a great, less expensive option! The ones shown below on my girls are in “chocolate” and mine is “blackberry”.
All of the dresses come with instruction sheets for different ways of tying them; it’s also fun to just play around!
First up, Bridesmaid CH in her dress, and her opinion on the dress, in quotes, beneath the photos:
“I wear a C cup. Some of the styles would absolutely require a bra!”
After going over my Zooey hair love fest, I think I figured out my hair, finally. Let me address something first: I have no hair trial. Well, I’ll have a trial a day or two before the wedding, but nothing that would afford me the ability to hate my stylist and find someone else.
The point is, I really want to keep things simple. Nothing elaborate that would invite disaster. So, I’m leaning towards this:
OK, so I can truly say that every time I read abut brides being so attached to their invitations I thought they were crazy. Until — I became one of them!
When we sent our Save the Dates I was so relieve that the task was done and maybe just because they were not much work I had no feelings when we let them go. But now it’s totally different!!
Yesterday, MIL B and I went to the post office to ask about hand canceling them, because well, I did spend 2 WHOLE DAYS sewing those little Kraft envelopes. The Post Office guy said that there was no difference between just sending them normally hand canceling, so I believed him and painfully handed them over.
The funny part was that I sent a Save the Date to one of my friends in Chile that never got there, and when he saw our invites he asked me if we were the same people. He actually remembered us because the design of our STDs were so similar to our invites. That was pretty cool!
Anyway, here’s my face after letting them go!
