About Mrs. French Fries

Nom.

March 1st, 2010 @ 10:09 am by Mrs. French Fries

It seems like we went for our cake tastings a long, long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away). In reality, it was almost 6 months ago. We have narrowed down our bakery choices and made our final selection — our cake flavors will be:

  • Genoise cake with vanilla mousse and fresh strawberries covered with white chocolate ganache
  • Chocolate cake with chocolate mousse covered with white chocolate ganache
  • Signature cheesecake with raspberry filling, covered with chocolate ganache

Basically, the first one is like really, really good strawberry shortcake. The second is a chocolate on chocolate cake (obviously my pick). The third is the best cheesecake in our city, hands down. So! Now all we need to decide is how we want our cake decorated. A relatively simple task at first blush; I posted about how I originally wanted a super simple cake, with just one single flower or a cluster of flowers for decoration.

I really liked the cake above, but thought it might look a bit too stark.  Another direction that I considered was a more graphic route for the simple cake/flower combo.  I really love the look of the cake below, but remember: our tiers would be round, not square.

Sigh. Seriously….I think it’s gorgeous. I had it in my mind that this was the cake photo I would bring with me to the bakery when we had our final design meeting. But then I had to go and stumble around Wedding Gawker, and landed upon these beauties:

Seriously? Seriously? They’re so cute. I die. I really love the middle cake and the right cake the best, and am considering combining the piping/flower on the middle cake with the blush pink color of the right cake. So, hive…I turn to you in all of your sage wisdom. Help me make up my mind! Which of these three cake pictures do you like the best, and why?

Did you have a hard time designing your cake, or did you know what you wanted from the start?

I have no idea what we’re going to do for our cake! We decided we want a round cake, but the design I want changes daily hahaha.

I was in the exact same boat! I initially wanted a cake almost identical to your first picture, but then I saw the center cake in your third picture and had to have it instead :) I think all of these are gorgeous cakes - you really can’t go wrong!

Hands down the third picture. I really love the first one, but I think, with the different combinations you described, the third picture would be beautiful.

We are doing something like the first cake. White frosting, but I am going to see if she will “rake” the icing vertically, to make it looked “ribbed”, with black ribbon & hopefully a green hydrangea as the only flower.

Definitely the last pic! Especially the blush pink one. Love the blush + black combo.

Love the last cake in the middle! So adorable! I don’t find the first inspiration picture too stark though :)

We had a cake that looked like the middle one in your bottom pic, but in the blush pink color. It was lovely. So that’s my vote. :-) We did a tone-on-tone for the piping. Our other color was grey, and grey cake looks….moldy. :-) I think black piping would be stunning.

I LOVE your #3 choice and if I could go back in time and get a different cake for my wedding it would be your last option! :)

Love the 3rd choice. I don’t know if you watch Cake Boss on Food Network, but he made a similar cake that was featured in Modern Bride that was equally beautiful! LOVE the old school piping and anemones.

So you must be going with Simma’s, right? There can only be one “best cheesecake, hands down” in Milwaukee and that’s it! :)

I actually love the first photo…I know you think it’s a bit stark, but it is so classic and elegant. Love all three inspiration photos!

I LOVE the last picture. And I love that you’re having a cheesecake tier. Our whole cake is going to be cheesecake. Great minds, FF, great minds.
