Mrs. Pudding's Picture
Mrs. Pudding, Greater Toronto Area/Vermont Age and Occupation: 26, High School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Computer Engineer Engagement Date: August 2008 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Ceremony, Cultural Hall Reception About Me: Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
About Mrs. Pudding

OK, first of all, thank you so much to all of you who commented on my hair trial post. Your kind words of encouragement and tips on how to better communicate with my hairstylist were (as always) greatly appreciated!

I have to admit though, I was keeping something from you, and unfortunately, I think some of you caught on (ahem, Spaniel). The truth is, as much as I was confused about whether or not I liked the back of my hair, I knew that I didn’t like the front - which is why I didn’t include any pictures of my face in the post.

Here is what it looked like:

She Bangs, She Bangs (and Sometimes She Doesn't) : wedding hair Img 00204 IMG_00204

I am seriously awkward here. Any tips on taking decent looking self portraits?

Now, in the stylist’s defense, I did tell her that I wanted my hair like this.

I wanted it simple and classic, but after seeing this pictures, I just don’t like it. It looks so… slicked back.

This experience has me questioning my hair choices. You see, I have had bangs in some shape or form for most of my life. I even had the ugly, thick, bangs that seemed to be all the rage in the early ’90s. Kind of like this, except less styled:

As soon as Mr. P and I got engaged, I decided that I would begin to grow out my bangs. I felt that this would make my style choices more versatile and classic. However, seeing the pictures from my hair trial, I am starting to miss the way my bangs look in an up do. Just take a look:

Sister P, Puddin’ Pops, and me

Now keep in mind that the two pictures of me aren’t really comparable: one is a casual pic with bad lighting, while the other has me dressed up and in full makeup. If I were to try the no bang look again, I would ask for a style more like the one Catherine is sporting here:

So, I turn to you, hive, with the ever important question: Bangs, or no bangs?

Side swept bangs definitly. They give a softer look and my personal fav. I have them.

Ooh, I like the sideswept bangs! And I’m jealous you can pull them off :) I agree with miss.skinner, it softens the look if that’s what you want!

I think bangs all the way. Love them.

I’m in favor of bangs. I just cut mine shorter for our engagement photos and they really create a hairstyle for me. (And you too.)

Bangs definitely. Side swept bangs yes! They shape faces, give feelings of volume and softness so that the hair doesn’t look so flat against the scalp! I honestly think you (esp in the 2nd pic) look better than CAtherine! Her hair makes her look a little too old w/out the classy vintage look (which I’m guessing what she was going for).

Bangs! I have them as well. Although mine are kinda long right now. But i definitely think side swept bangs really make it look more natural and like you said less slicked back.

I like the bangs! Which reminds me, that I’m long overdue for my PWC…

See, I have the same problem. I love the way bangs look on me, and I’m not a huge fan of the way my hair looks up without them. BUT, they’re such a pain in the ass to keep up, and I always end up getting sick of them. I’ve been growing mine out for about a year now, and they’re finally long enough to not be considered bangs anymore. But…yeah, now I’m dying to cut some bangs back.

Bangs, you can always slightly pen then so they don’t move around as much and bother throughout the whole day of the wedding.

Cut them soon because as a “professional hair-stylist”, you definitely need to have time to adjust to them and feel comfortable with having them again.

Bangs. They look great on you. I’m having a similar dilemma and am having to give up on the idea that I’m capable of pulling off the sideswept bang look because my hair is so thin. I’m not a fan of the totally-slicked look either, so I’m not quite sure what to do.

I vote Bangs. Although my stylist hates when I call them that. I vote “Fringe”. :)

you look fantastic with side bangs!!

But, I also fall victim to the bang cycle. See pics (like yours!) fall in love, cut them, like it for 2 weeks until it grows to be awkward, try to cut them myself, look awkward, get annoyed at self, grow out (takes forever!), rinse and repeat. Up to you girly, I like CZJ’s style also :)

Bangs! I think that with a full updo, bangs really help soften the look. If you don’t want to take the plunge to bangs, maybe just some tendrils hanging down?

Bangs!

BTW, I asked my stylist for something on my hair trial and that was how I realized it was absolutely not what I want. That’s the beauty of the trial.

I grew out my bangs for the wedding as well. When I went to my hair trial my hair stylist and I both agreed that we liked the look with bangs much better, so we chopped them! I say go for bangs :)

Bangs on you does look good, but personally I prefer no bangs. You can definitely do no-bangs that are curled and pinned or looser like the pic you posted and it would look great - I have the same problem with hair pulled straight back.
